I thought the picnic was worth it, just so I didn't have to try to get fast passes for four of us. The food wasn't bad and was enough for us. Of course DM and I had chicken at Plaza Inn for lunch, so we didn't need a big meal.
The food is cold.
You can get a FP for the blue or yellow section. No telling which, but if you wanted the other color ask for it and you might get it. BTW there is little difference and your view will depend more on where in the section you stand not the color.
You can pick them up from 11:30am to one hour before the first show, so that gives you lots of flexibility.
$15 is only a little more than you would pay to eat elsewhere. I found them to be very good and will most likely have a picnic again on my next visit to see WoC.
I agree with skiingfast since getting the picnic will save you hours of time waiting at the main gate first thing in the morning and the GRR FP line. It does make a big difference to save time doing other things at the DLR instead of waiting in the FP line. $15 bucks is a lot for a cold food, but it was good for the price. I have ordered the cold chicken and it was nice.
We liked the picnic option a lot. For $15, you get a decent lunch (or light dinner) and a WoC FP. Here's a link to my DIS blog on our WoC picnic experience on opening night, if you're interested. It includes pics of the food.

This link is really useful - thank you. It's a even better deal for us as I believe you get an annual pass discount - I presume you book this online also?
We did Ariel's Grotto WOC meal in July and debating whether to try the picnics or the other sit down meal (the name has just escaped me - must be an age thing)

Yes, you can only pre-order on-line. You can order picnics up to 30 days in advance. Here's the link to the ordering page. Just scroll down to find the link for the discounted AP picnic price. It will take you to the AP log-in page and ask for your email and password. Premium APs get the picnics for $12.99. Not sure if this is the same price for other APs, but I'm guessing it is. Enjoy!
