Okay, so we are leaving in what 4 days? AHHHH But I'm thinking of doing a neat surprise for my family. We are staying at the Tropicana, but I was thinking of booking the last night in a view room at the Paradise Pier. A nice treat with the view, being able to swim with the Disney pool/slide ect...

But what would be really nice is if we could on our last night get some kind of pretty view of the WOC. Can you see it from the view rooms? I realize it won't be like being there. It would be kind of special because I did this on a trip a few years ago, only it was the DL hotel and we got the greatest view of the fireworks that last night from our room. It was magical, and such a cool way to end the trop. Only this time I'd keep all a surprise and drop it on them that morning or something. *insert evil laugh* Thoughts?

We had a theme park view on the 12th floor last year. We were there the week after WOC opended. We could see the fountains from our room and we could hear the music (3 times a night! The last show was late and I had dreams about WOC, lol). The view wasn't great though. We saw everything fromn the side/back so we couldn't see most of the show.

HTH!

We did this in March & were on the 7th floor. The music is simulcast on the tv in the room. You can't see the water screen projections, but you see the fountains & color with the music & it was a nice way to watch. We've seen the show from the ground & nothing matches being there.....but it's a nice alternative if you can't go to the show in the park.

I had the same view the above 2 posters had (I was in room 1234 - easy to remember!) on my holiday trip this past December. I absolutely loved the view and was staring out the window as much as I could. I was amazed at how much of DCA I could see and hear (could see the Christmas tree set up in DCA, could see people milling about near Ariel's Grotto, could hear screams of terror from Mickey's Fun Wheel and California Screamin' - it was awesome).

What I would say about viewing WoC from the PPH park view room is that, first of all, even if you specifically request and pay for a park view room, you may not get one, or you may not get one with as great of a view. Some view rooms are better than others. Nine times out of 10 you will get the room you paid for, I'm sure, but things can go wrong and it's not 100% guaranteed. I have read about situations in which someone wanted a particular view and did not get one. They only got a partial view. My park view room upgrade in December was a happy accident because I checked in at (literally) the crack of dawn, on a Sunday, and the PPH had extra view rooms available. If I had checked in 2 hours later, there may not have been any rooms like that for me.

But let's say that you pay for a park view and get exactly the view you want. Being able to see WoC from the room is sort of an accidental bonus. You kind of look out the window and say, "Hey! I can see World of Color!"

But really you only see colored water jumping up and down and you hear muffled music through the windows (not counting turning on the simulcast). You can't see any of the animated projections on the water, which, to me, would be the whole point of watching the show. It is cool to even be able to see that much, but if you were hoping for the PPH room to serve as a good way to see WoC without being in the park, it will fall short.

I agree with everything the 3 posters above me said, and Sherry E is correct in saying you may not get the view room you thought you were going to get. I had this happen to me once. I had a lower floor and had a better view of the GCH and the street below then a park view. :sad2:
Ever since then I always ask for upper floors and note that on the reservation and then again call the hotel directly and make sure it was noted a week before the trip.

Oddly enough though it was the one time I paid for a view room that I didn't get what I thought I was getting. Every time since then we've been lucky to get free room upgrades 4 or 5 times to a view room so I guess it all worked out. :scratchin

Thanks for all of your thoughts and experiences. I decided to not do it. Odds are we'll be IN the park all that day and night anyway. We'll be doing the WOC dinner on Sunday, so if we want we can just see the show again that day. Instead of taking a chance on maybe getting a good view. Would still be nice, but for $350 I can do a lot of other things! Maybe next time we'll stay there for our whole trip and try to get a room on the upper levels.

Still trying to think of something extra special though, this trip is for our 15th wedding Anniversary.

If you want something special maybe do Fantasmic reservation's, Dinner at Napa Rose, a couples message at Mandara Spa (great place), Wine flights (wine tasting) at Wine Country Trattoria. There is a lot to do to make it special for your 15th Anniversary. :)
