Okay, so I had to be rushed in for emergency surgery last week. I can still go to Disney this week, just no big rides (so bummed about Star Tours ). However, I'm going to rent a wheelchair because there is no way I have the stamina for two days at a theme park. How does WOC work? Will I just get a fast pass and then they will put me in a wheelchair accessible place? I can't stand for a long time or sit on the ground, either. Also, what about Fantasmic? Is there a wheelchair accessible place, or can I just park it in a place where my family is? There are eight of us all together. TIA!

First, I am sorry about your surgery. I hope you feel better soon! Have you thought about an ECV? Or do you have several people to help you get around? It can be pretty tiring to wheel yourself around.

For WOC, there are handicapped sections for each color. You will be directed to them along with your group.

At Fantasmic!, there is a handicapped area over by the Mark Twain dock. No seating, so the person in the wheelchair rolls to the front and the rest of their party stands behind.

Hopefully that helps. You do have a larger party and I just wanted to point out that Disneyland has changed their policy on how many people can accompany the handicapped person. It used to be the handicapped person plus 5. In the disabilites section and in my own experience, Disney is now allowing the entire party regardless of size is now allowed. So I don't think you will have to split up.

For WoC you will need to get a WoC Show Pass. Go to your color section expect it to be crowded so plan accordingly. However take a look at the link, if you get yellow you enter in the red to avoid stairs and go all the way across. http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=38002097&postcount=11 Ones in the H area, there are benches which will let you see from the front of the section.

For F! there is a HA area on the far east end of the viewing area. Again this spot can get crowded.

My mom is voting for ecv, but there were two reasons why I thought regular wheelchair. I would hate to take one from somebody who really needs it (I have 5 adults to push me around) and it is 50 bucks as opposed t 12!

Well, you might need it just as much as the next person. So I wouldn't worry about that. Just so you know, you can't take either the wheelchair or ecv out of the resort area. So I don't know how walking to or from the resort will work for you. Have you thought about renting your own ecv from a medical supply comapny? Some deliver to hotels and I think are much cheaper than DL. Just a thought!

What will you do for wheels in DTD? I got tired walking around there (post-op) and opted for an ECV from an outside vendor. Then I didn't have to rent one in Disneyland, check it back in to go to Calif Adventure, and check out another one there, then wear myself out walking back to the hotel. The vacation you save may be your own. ECV's aren't cheap but they're SOOO worth it.

I'll look into an outside vendor. I never thought how I'm going to get from the hotel to the DL ! Thanks for the tip! If it's not to expensive, I might do that.
Edited: Can you tell me the vendor you used or is that against dis law? This is just all so odd to me that until last week I was a perfectly capable 34 year old and now I can hardly walk outside without getting tired!

Thanks! And, can you take it through ride lines? I never thought about that, either. So, at least I could sit while waiting!

I always use Deckert's for my scooter rental! Their number is 714-542-5607. They are great and their prices are very reasonable!

Most of the rides at DL you will have to use the handicap entrances (which are usually the ride exits). You can get a guide at city hall that will tell you exactly where to go for each ride.

DCA was designed so that the scooters and wheelchairs can actually go in the ride lines.

Hope this helps!

You can take it through some of the ride lines, but not all. When you enter w/ a wheelchair or ECV, they'll had you a disability guide, which will tell you what to do for each attraction. Most of Fantasyland, you'll leave it outside, most everything else at Disneyland, you'll enter through the exit. Everything in CA (that I can think of), you'll go through the main queue.

Here is an online version of the guide, so you can plan ahead: http://adisneyland.disney.go.com/media/dlr_v0200/en_US/help/Mobility_201009.pdf

Thanks for all the great information. This is making me feel better about the trip. I was seriously bummed when I was told I couldn't ride all the things I really like. But, as my mom and family keep telling me, I'm still alive and I'm really there to see my baby nephews have fun, so it doesn't matter if I have fun! And, my friend is permanently in a wheelchair, so I am happy this is just temporary!

I'm glad your looking in to getting a ECV. It's not fun pushing someone in a regular wheelchair. We've done it, and it's pretty tiring! Not to mention there are lots of cracks and bumps you wouldn't notice otherwise. I wouldn't feel bad at all for getting an ECV, you deserve it like anyone else in that position! I also agree that it would be best to go with an outside company so you can get around in DTD and to the hotel and back. Good luck!
