WOC better from further back, in our opinion

We just waited 20 mins. to get in DCA (9:10-9:30) then another 25 minutes to get a FP for the 9pm show yesterday. We got yellow. We then waited in the middle of the yellow section from 7:30 til show time. About 10 minutes into the show, I went and walked to the very back of the yellow section because we couldn't see well despite there being only one row of people between us and the rail (and step down). The CM had told us he'd seen it from the front row and the back and preferred the back. We could all see better there so we moved to the very back. I think if we could've stood even further back, out in the street, it'd be even better. It's just too hard with people within 4 feet of you. If I were to do it again, I'd show up for the show no sooner than 9 and stand in the back. Actually, if I were to do it again I'd skip the whole FP fiasco and just watch the show from the back of the bay or from the Cove Bar ($10 cover). But our kids are ten and the projections from the movies aren't so 'must see' as it might be for little kids.

We did picnics with blue FPs on Thurs. night and sat in the very, very front and still the view was just okay. Being that close and right next to where the very center section juts out, you couldn't see a lot of the show horizontally or vertically. The scale of it wasn't very viewable. We saw a lot of ink-colored water at the fountain bases and close-up fire. The show from the very back was totally different to me, and better.

Having said all that, all six people in our party preferred Fantasmic. The WOC fountains were pretty but F! is so unique with the ships and the live performers, blow-ups, rafts, etc., etc.

A note about the picnics-- If you plan on doing an actual picnic while waiting for WOC on the cement, be warned there are NO NAPKINS in there with all that finger food! pirate:

Thanks for sharing!

The VIP Section is also located in the very back.

The VIP Section is Purple in the following viewing chart:

See the light blue section? If you walked in first and went to the very front-most, center-most point, that's where we sat Thurs. It was okay but too close. The section actually was roped along the right edge of that square in the water, not the left. So that square was not in front of us but just to our right. And it's low so it's not an obstruction.

See that box/square thing in the center of the yellow section? That's where Emily stands in the pre-show. We weren't too far behind her Sat. That's where we moved to the very back of the yellow section from. It was only about half full back there so we could stand back from the crowd and see a bit more over them.

I see why the VIP section is way back.

How does one get the bridge spots? Is that a FP?

You can get a bridge spot if you have a Blue FP.

If you have a Blue FP, you can choose to go inside Paradise Park to stand in the Blue Section, or you can choose to stand by the bridge.

That according to this post from MC.

I have been reading posts about WOC and still can't figure out the best option when bringing my mom and 7 year old granddaughter.

I was going to reserve the meals from Ariels Grotto but had assumed we'd be seated and served dinner. From what I've read there is no seated dining but everyone stands for quite a while waiting for and viewing the show. Is that true?

We won't be staying on the property so can we purchase something from the hotel, I assume we would each need to purchase an item, and then run over to get a FP after we go through the turnstile?

If we reserve an Ariels or picnic lunch in advance then we don't need to get a FP but Ariels and Trattoria diners in one section but where are picnic lunch purchasers? Red, yellow or blue?

Thanks so much for advice and dining/viewing info!

I'm going this week-end for the anniversary but may or may not see WOC.

Thanks!

We haven't done WOC yet either, but from I've read, you DO eat sitting down at either AG or WCT, then you receive a FP for the premium dining STANDING section at WOC. :thumbsup2

With either a dining res or a picnic you just get a Fastpass. The dining res gets you a standing spot in the center section. You eat in a restaurant. With our picnics we got blue section. You can eat these wherever you want, from 11:30 on. From the FP machine, we got yellow.

If you're looking for the least fuss and the least standing around waiting, I'd reserve picnic meals which you pick up and eat after noon sometime. Then show up to see the show at 9pm or 8:30 if you want to see the pre-show. Which is short and silly except the character costumes are kind of cool. Like I've said, I'd stand in the very back. I held up my 10 year old for part but the CMs were encouraging people to let the kids up to the railings. I don't really like squeezing my kids in unless the people already at the rail seem totally inviting of it. But the back section wasn't that crowded so seeing between the people wasn't that bad, either.
