First up I have to confess that I'm an utter 'wuss' when it comes to teeth and the dentist.......:scared1:

Unfortunately Eve had a bad experience with her 'baby' teeth (the enamel was terrible) and had several removed, at the hospital, when she was 5 :sad1:

Fortunately her adult teeth seem ok but she has one remaining big 'baby' tooth left that has been wobbly for months........:confused3
Her adult teeth have come through / are coming through really early (she's 10)

Eve's dentist offered to take it out for her before we went to Florida but Eve panicked and said she'd rather wait for it to come out on it's own as she is terrified of the injection........
Whilst we were away part of the tooth, at the front, broke but the rest is hanging on in there :confused3

She won't let me anywhere near it but says that there's a massive gap at the back, it twists side to side but doesn't seem so loose at the front.........:sad2:

My question is do we leave it or do I take her to the dentist?

I don't want to drive all the way over to the other side of town only for her to not let the dentist do anything - and waste her time :guilty:

Does anyone, in the know, have any ideas please?

I've got visions of it still being in there in another ten years time!!

:flower3:

Guess my main question is do you think there's any problem leaving nature to take it's course as some of the tooth has come out anyway?

Hi there, I think I would let nature take its course. It sounds like Eve is a bit reluctant to go and I would want to avoid any unnecessary treatment, especially if it is likely to make her feel stressed. You could broach the subject with her and ask her what she wants to do. If the tooth is twisting right round, it sounds like it's ready to come out anyway. Is it possible to get a phone consultation with your dentist, just to put your mind to rest?

I know the feeling about being a wimp regarding dentists I am currently suffering toothache and know one need's pulling and I am pertrified.

As in regards to Eve I'd definately go to the dentist,to get it checked purely as it could get infected? possibly.
My DD as a cracked back tooth (she's 9) the dentist won't pull it as it is coming out regardless as her adult teeth are coming through,he however did fill it with a temporary filling to reduce any risk of infection.

So my advice would be get it checked :goodvibes

Thanks :)

I think I will give them a call but I'm hopeful it'll come out of it's own accord - it's a real nuisance for her - twisting, 'cracking' (her description) and bleeding so it's definitely on the way.

I, too was concerned about the risk of infection so I'll call when I've collected her from school :thumbsup2

I think I would make her go and then try and make the experience as painless as possible, if you don't go she could end up with her fear of dentists as an adult and then never going to get her teeth checked.

Eve's fear costs me an absolute fortune as she, religiously, goes every 6 months to a lovely private dentist :goodvibes

I've just given them a call and made an appointment for next Weds after school.
Had a proper look at it myself and it's really loose!

She's playing basketball in a couple of hours so she, maybe, needs to get in someone's way - either that or really get into a fight at Karate on Saturday...... :lmao:

I am awful with the dentist, mainly because I had a lot or orthodontic treatment between the ages of 11 and 16, which left me with a sensitive jaw and any stress makes my muscles cease up and I can't open my mouth! I hate going, but I am making sure that the kids go every 6 months, DD likes to go just for the stickers! :)

I hope Eve gets her tooth sorted one way or another (the basketball sounds much better than the dentist to me! ;) )

She just came downstairs to show me that it had twisted round in her gum.....................................:scared1: :scared1:

How it's hanging in there I can't imagine!!:confused3

Apparently its straightened itself now :crazy2:

It will be out before the appointment you've made for next week! Often it's just a bit of skin keeping the tooth in place. yuk. Glad I'm not 10 any more.;)

Hi, we encourage our patients to try and 'wobble' out any baby teeth if they are loose, but even if your daughter does this before her appointment it is still best to get her checked out as there could be roots of the tooth still left behind especially if the tooth has previously cracked.

Mix up some salt in a glass of warm water and gently swill around the mouth frequently, it will help to keep the socket infection free (if it is open) :)

Exactly what we are doing so great to know we seem to be on the right track :thumbsup2

I know exactly what your going through, last week my 12yr old son had to have 5 baby teeth out at the dentist as they were wobbley but refused to come out. l have always taken him to the dentist regularly and have recently changed dentists, it was only the new dentist that pointed out that the teeth needed to be removed. l was like yourself and would of preferred for nature to take its course but she was convinced they needed to be removed. l have to say making that decision was very difficult, its hard seeing your child have to go through pain and also l didn't want to put him off for life:confused3. The whole experience was very unpleasant, the teeth came out very easily but he'd got himself so worked up he was sick and had to have his feet elevated until he felt better. Thankfully his mouth is healing well and now the adult teeth can come down on their own:thumbsup2

l'm hoping that it hasn't frightened him so much that he won't go back.

Good luck with your daughter, l do hope the tooth comes out before your dentist visit :grouphug:

sounds like it's coming out all by itself :goodvibes lets hope so.

My dd6 has a baby tooth that won't come out at the front and her adult tooth is growing behind out of alignment. the dentist tried to remove it but she got so upset and stressed and vows she will never go back. It's horrible to watch your kids in 'the chair'.
I am now really concerned about taking her back, but i know it need to come out :confused3

It's still hanging in there but appears to be getting 'wobblier' if that's possible :upsidedow

Roll on Weds - I just hope she lets the dentist take a proper look so we can get it sorted! :)

Here's the update for all you lovely folk that have had to put up with me worrying ;)

Most of Eve's tooth came out on Fri evening but there was still a little left in :scared:

We went to see the dentist after school and she says it's just a little bit hanging in there that will come out whilst she's eating :woohoo:

Eve is sooooo relieved and I'm really looking forward to my glass of wine later...........;)
