WL upgrade question?...

I know people have been upgraded to better views and even concierge floors. But, has anyone ever been upgraded to the deluxe room?

Not sure what you mean? Are you taking about the junior suites or VP/Pres suites?

I've only been upgraded from standard view to courtyard view, but I asked if there were any free upgrades available when I first checked in. We went during value season so that might be why they had extra rooms available.

Do you actually say straight out "do you have any free upgrades?"

Or is there a better way of asking? Any advice WL lovers?

I would not use the word "free". I would ask about a "complimentary" upgrade. We have only stayed at a cabin in Ft. wilderness and at the Swan. We got upgraded at the Swan automatically, because we are SPG Gold members, and at the cabins, we got the exact loop that I requested on my reservation. There is really not any "upgrade" at the cabins. Now, when we went to DLR, we stayed at Paradise Pier resort, and asked about an upgrade, but the hotel was full, so we couldn't get upgraded even if we were willing to pay for it. It's really just semantics, but semantics can make a difference.

What I asked, verbatim, was, "Is it possible to get an upgraded room?" The reason I added the word "free" to my previous post was because many folks have posted on these boards that when they asked for an upgrade they were told that they couldn't get a "free" upgrade but could be upgraded for a extra nightly fee.

Another way to ask could be, "Are there any upgrades available?" The CMs will let you know whether or not there will be an additional charge and let you decide from there.

We were lucky. Ours was a free upgrade.

It never hurts to ask. The worst they can tell you is, "No," and you'll still have a room at one of the nicest resorts on property (IMHO).

Ours was a free upgrade too. We didn't say anything at check in. they just told us when I said my name that it was our lucky day and we had been upgraded for free to conceirge level. The room itself was very standard. A little on the small side but I was thrilled with the hotel and our view of the castle.
