I haven't seen much mention of the current bus/boat transportation situation at the WL. We were there from 4/27-5/5 and thought the bus situation was horrible. All buses (at least all that we took) left the WL and then went to Fort Wilderness. This adds about 15-20 minutes to any trip. We attempted to go to Animal Kingdom one day and decided to take the bus instead of the car and after waiting 10 minutes for a bus, it went to FW and waited for about 5 minutes, then on to BB then finally on to AK where it dropped us off. My intent was to avoid having to walk from the parking lot or deal with the tram. Where the buses drop off if further of a walk than any walk that I have done from a parking space to a tram pickup location. When we left the bus waited at the depot for 15 minutes before departing and then proceeded to go to FW first and WL second. From what I was told by the front desk it was experimental and that so far the reviews of it have not been good so lets hope that they change it soon. This is just posted as a warning to anyone staying in the near future. The boat to MK also from time to time would go to FW after leaving WL adding another 10-15 to the boat trip and would sometimes to FW first and then WL on the way back. This was not everytime and seemed to be random in method. WL needs another form of transport to MK via bus as an alternative. It is so maddening to see the MK from the driveway and have it take 20-30 minutes to get there. A car is definitely an asset to have.

Thanks for the info. We are staying there in October and I have heard good and bad reviews lately. They seem to have made a lot of changes this past year.

When we were there in Feb., the bus stopped at Poly and GF which added some time but it was an easy way to get to those resorts for a meal, then take a bus from there to a park or DD. FW just doesn't seem to be as convenient.

When we were there it was just a matter of catching the right bus. There were busses that went on to FW after they were at WL but we would just wait for the bus that had just come from FW and was headed directally to the TTC.

I have stayed at the WL the last three years and have had very good bus service. The only time we had to venture to FW was when we happened to hop the wrong bus. As far as the boat transprtation. We had a room on the end with a view of the lake so whenever we would see a boat coming we would get our stuff together and head down to the dock.

I wouldn't let these transportation issues deter you from wanting to stay at WL. My suggestion is just learn you bus routes and schedules and you should be fine.

higgin, We are going in June to the WL. We will have a car, so do you think we would get to the parks faster using it? The bost did not sound much better...thanks,,,corvair

We found that it was more convenient for all parks but MK, even with the stop at FW for the boat it was still quicker than parking at TTC and taking monrail/boat to MK. Although, to get into the MK parking lot, you have to drive all the way around back past the car care center, past the front gate (toll booth) and make a uturn to get back into the parking lot.
