WL to Fort Wilderness?

We'll be staying at WL for the 1st time this December. I was thinking about going to the Hoop Dee Doo our 1st night (if available). Our flight gets in at 3:40PM, so we'd have to go for the 7:15 show.

What would be the best way to get to and from? Should we go directly to FW, park and take the bus to Pioneer Hall? Should we go to WL and walk to FW? Is there a path that we'd be able to walk in at night?

I believe there is a boat launch from the 2 resorts as well? How often and how late does that run?

We did the exact same thing on our trip last year. We took the boat to Fort Wilderness and was there way early. But on the way home, the fireworks started as we got to the dock. It was the most magical experience to ride the boat back to WL and watch the fireworks over Cinderella's Castle - and it was FREE! For my first trip to WDW - I felt like it was a dream. My husband leaned over to me and said "I bet you weren't expecting that."

Walk to the boat launch at WL and take the boat to FW. Get off the boat and walk the short distance to Pioneer Hall. Super Easy way.

There is s nice path to walk. However it is about a mile and I wouldn't do it at night. Take the boat it is a lot of fun.
