We are staying in a WL "standard" room.
What part of the resort do I request to be in to be as close to the pool as possible?
Thanks in advance!!

I don't think there is a standard room close to the main pool.

those are woods view and courtyard views....

how about the VWL pool - you should be able to see it - with a standard view room - just ask to be on the VWL side of the resort.

however the best standard view rooms - you walk out and you are in the lobby....

Don't worry! None of the rooms at WL are more than a few minutes walk from the pools. The standard rooms are the ones around the lobby. Think of WL at a U shape. The bottom of the U is where the lobby & standard rooms are. The main pool is in the center of the U. The boat dock is above the left long side of the U. The lake is at the top of the U. I'd say it's about a 5 minute (maybe less) walk from the lobby to the boat dock.

Enjoy the lodge! Be sure to check out the WL faq, part 5 post, page 1 for lots of great info!

One more thing, the quiet pool & villa's are on the right side of the U. There is no side door, so that would be your longest walk, which is still 5 minutes or less.

do any of the standard view rooms have a DIRECT look at a roof? Id say just about 5' in front of it? on the side of the U bottom on top of the check-in desk, level 3 (maybe 4?) where that public viewing deck is located?
I remember seeing a balcony that looks directly at a roof! or maybe there were a few of them

Believe it or not, I was told this was a "courtyard" view  by a CM at the WL front desk. I checked-in (2002) with a "woods" view ressie and was promptly told by the CM that I was being "upgraded" to a courtyard view. I was disappointed when I got to the room. It's not a bad view, but nowhere near as nice as the main courtyard view.
I've heard standard views can overlook the roof/bus stop area ?

I had a room that opened onto the lobby, but it was a woodsview room, NOT a standard. I was directly above the WCC.

Standard rooms that have lobby views are above the check-in area on the fourth floor. The fifth and sixth floors above check-in are woodsview. All rooms above WCC with lobby views are woodsview rooms.
