WL question re: smell...

We stayed at the WL for exactly one night last year. DH loved it and immediately fell in love with the decor. I think he'd be thrilled if I rebooked it at some point. However, when we were there, there was such a weird smell in the hallways. I'm going to assume it was a coincidence, but it smelled so awful to me that I didn't even consider returning (esp now that I'm pregnant and can smell extra well!). It was like... some sort of chemical smell. Almost like a refrigerator that has been sitting around empty for too long. It was really powerful, and although it didn't go into the rooms too much, as soon as you opened your door it hit you, almost all the way into the lobby.

Is this a typical smell there that I just had a weird reaction to? Or perhaps they were doing some sort of cleaning there at the time? I even mentioned it on the online guest comments thing we filled out at the end of our trip, but I wasn't really expecting a reply back from Disney, and of course I didn't get one.

We were in the north wing and I don't remember any smell. That was 2010.

Aren't they refurbishing WL now? Maybe with the new carpeting, things will be fresher? I am assuming they are putting in new carpeting.

We wanted to go back to WL in 2012. Love that resort. Instead we stayed at CSR which we also love. But we did come over and visit WL during our trip. (needed a loaf of bread from the gift shop).

When last year? They are doing a refurb at WL, but I don't know when it started.

I stayed at POR during a refurb, and we were in a building that had just been completed about a week before our stay. I could still fairly strongly smell the new carpet/new paint smell. We got used to it, but there was a smell. Might be an explanation IF the refurb was going on at WL when you were there.

It's not your imagination I also was hesitant to book in 2011 because of the smell but when we returned in 2012 I didn't pick up on the smell.

While on our vacation in April, we woke up to an awful chemical smell in our room. It was making me lightheaded and nauseous, I was worried there was a gas leak or something. My husband went down to the front desk about it and the CM told him that they were cleaning the floors and recommended that we put a towel in front of our door so the smell wouldn't come in as much. That was the only night we had a problem with the smell.

I think the smell you are referring to may be the result of a recent carpet/floor cleaning. We have stayed at WL and never noticed a weird smell, other than those from guests coming back from a long hot day at the park. lol:lmao:

We were there last month and stayed on the same floor as the renovation for nine nights. We didn't notice any smell or any noise.

I would venture it was the rug cleaner as a PP had mentioned that you smelled. We have stayed at the WL many times and the one time we saw them cleaning we did get a hint of that smell.

I will say that we stayed in one of the new rooms, and the halls on the one side all have new carpet. They also took down the wallpaper as well that was in the halls.

If you choose to stay, you can always ask to get one of the new rooms. They are very nice!

Thanks, guys! I just may switch over, in that case.

Oh, one more thing... how is the bus service from WL? Do they run less often because of the boat launch? I didn't mind the boat, but DH didn't really like it, he said it took too much effort - and in truth, we did do a lot of waiting on the dock for the boats. And that was just for one night, I imagine for a week it would pile on even more.
