Hi all! I need opinions. DH and I are heading to WDW in September and we are trying to decide which hotel to stay at. Last year we stayed the POR and were a little disappointed. We have stayed the ASMO and ASMU.
My question is, is it really worth the money to stay at the Poly? So far the only difference I can find in the two resorts (besides the themeing) is the Poly being on the monorail.

Thanks!!

Hi, Jennibug and welcome to the DIS.
The theming is a big deal when you're talking about these 2 resorts. We have stayed at both, and the theming is spectacular at both resorts. Will you have any children traveling with you? If so, I would recommend the Poly for a few reasons. First, because it's on the monorail, which is exciting for everyone, but especially for kids. Also, because of the beach. We spent the majority of our time at the Poly on the beach with our 2 sons. The zero depth pool is another reason I prefer the Poly over WL with kids. If you and your DH are just going, I think either resort would be nice. We stayed at WL, and I thought it was really great due to the theming, the proximity to the MK and the friendliness of the CM's. Then, we stayed at the Poly (which had been a dream of mine) and I was hooked. WL is really nice, but there is just something magical about the Poly. If you want more information about the Poly, you could check Tikiman's website- sorry- I don't know the web address, but I know someone here does!

I would choose Polynesian b/c

- much better transportation
- much larger rooms (rooms at WL are the same size as CBR)
- rooms have been recently rehabbed at Poly (rooms at WL haven't ever been rehabbed)

We love the Poly and yes it's worth the money - to us anyway. Everyone is different. The Poly not only offers the best location, but the theming and laid back atmosphere are wonderful. The CMs are top notch. The place is beautiful and we love watching the fireworks from the beach. It truly embodies the Disney magic!

We personally didn't like WL. It felt far-removed, boat transporation was slooooow, rooms were small and dark, pool is small. I will say it's very well themed and beautiful on the outside. Love the walking trail to FW. I doubt we'll stay there again, unless we just couldn't afford anything else. In fact, I might pick CSR over WL if money were an issue.

I think it depends on if you are traveling with children or not. We personally prefer the WL, but if we were traveling with small children we would stay at the poly, where we could jump on the monorail and head to mk. DH likes WL for its convience (no walking to different buildings). We also enjoy the themeing as well.
