Today the WL will be on the Travel Channel's Great Hotels at 12 noon EST. I am going in 2 weeks so I will be tuned in.

Me too. We'll be there in Aug so I'm taping for my dh so he can see why I'm soooo excited.

Thanks for posting this, I too plan on watching it and probably tape it too for dh. We haven't planned our trip yet, but are pretty torn between CR and WL. We've stayed at CR twice and we've never been to WL so maybe seeing this will help make up our mind. We also kind of like the Dolphin but that's another story too.

Thanks again for the heads up!

Thanks for posting! I have it on tape, but this way I can "visit" my Lodge while I eat lunch today! :teeth:

I can't believe I missed it! WL is my favorite hotel. I checked the monthly schedule and I don't see that it is scheduled to be repeated. They are going to show Animal Kingdom Lodge and Yacht and Beach Club. Would anyone be willing to copy their tape of this program and send it to me? I would gladly pay for the blank tape and shipping. Send me a PM if you are willing. Thanks.

does anyone know when it will be on again??

I had the travel channel on today, but at 12:00 Portofino Bay was on... weird...
I havent seen the special on WL yet...

Don't worry too much. If you read these boards, you already know much, much more than this program showed about WL. Personally, I was very disappointed in the program. Here's a summary:

The hostess drove up to the hotel in a jeep (rugged vehicle to fit the theme). She commented on how authentic the theming is and how the guest feels like he's not even in Florida. Okay intro.

They showed the lobby -- that was a nice segment.

They gave a nice walk-through of a deluxe room / junior suite with a great courtyard view. However, I thought they were rather deceptive in this part of the show. While they didn't outright say so, they defiantely intimated that this was a typical room at WL. You and I know that these deluxe rooms/junior suites make up only a handful of the rooms at WL, and that they're much more expensive than a standard room. It would have been more honest to show a smattering of other rooms too.

They showed almost nothing of the pool, the marina, etc. -- a disservice to the viewer. Boat transportation was covered briefly. She kept coming back to the geyser and joking about how she'd see it erupt sometime. A waste of program time.

Then the show switched over to the Magic Kingdom -- yes, I know this makes no sense. They talked about how Frontierland is similar to WL in theme. They showed several Frontierland rides and restaurants. Huh? They continued this absurdity by switching the topic to Fort Wilderness. They showed the campfire with Chip and Dale. I kept thinking SHOW ME MORE WILDERNESS LODGE -- this program is supposed to be about Wilderness Lodge.

They showed the Whispering Canyon Cafe but didn't really make it look like an attractive place to eat.

All in all, a person who knew nothing about Wilderness Lodge would come away from this program with a very jumbled opinion. They might have the impression that the campfire is held at WL, or that Big Thunder Mountain is a WL attraction. They would definately not have a realistic impression about the average room at WL.

If you know the basics and you're looking for a few (and I do mean A FEW) nice looks at WL, this show is for you. If you want real information, read these boards or a guide book.

I agree with the comment above. However, this series shows the hotel and the attractions around the hotel. That's why they showed some of MK - and how to get there.

They do the same with the Beach Club - They go to World Showcase.

But, for a first time viewer, it is deceiving. I still loved it!!

We missed it yesterday but it has been on before and I'm sure it will be again. I thought it was a very good representation of the "real" WL. Yes it had a little artificial color but what doesn't? For anyone who has ordered a "Disney" video tape, now that's unrealistic. This at least had the real atmosphere around it and really not that much for enhancements. For anyone who missed it, I would keep checking, they re-run Disney hotels all the time.
