I saw this on the map and wondered if it was worth checking out or is it just another way to get to FW? Has anyone explored this? Are there signs telling about the different plant species or is it just a trail? Any pictures?

When we stayed there on previous trips, I used the trail as a way to get in a few miles of walking for fitness. I saw several deer on the path (early in the AM and later in the afternoon). That was basically it.

Don't know if this will change your mind but if you're real quiet - you may see some turkeys. I've seen them several times but I don't have kids so that may be the reason. I enjoy the trail in the early morning and go over to the campgrounds at Christmastime to check out all the decorations at the RV sites. Have Fun!

How long does it take to walk the trail from the WL all the way to FW? I ask because we're doing the HDDR and this might be a fun way to get there. We'll take the boat back.;) I have no intention of hoofin' it back to the WL with a full belly. Also, is it lighted? We're doing the 9:30 show in the fall.

Hi!

WL to FW is about 20 minutes (approx 1 mile). That is about the same as from the parking lot at FW to the Hoop De Doo area, for anyone who chooses to walk. I haven't seen turkeys, but deer and armadillos (in the early morning/dusk).

Oh - the path is dark at night. Really dark. So if you are walking it, you may hear the clacking feet of armadillos right in front of you (but not see them). :)

Carriage rides do go through there.

Thanks, Denise! I got your PM and saw all the great pics. I assume the trail would be safe as long as you used a flashlight, correct? I pack everything else...why not a flashlight too?! Being that we're going during the Halloween celebrations I'm sure we could fit in a 'spooky night time nature trail'. I think it would be fun.....as long as it's safe.

Hi!

Glad the photos helped!

I'd feel fine with a flashlight, especially if you are going in pairs or more. There are buses that go adjacent to the path much of the way - so it's not like the path is deep in the woods. But it is very dark, and it will help to have the flashlights when the carriages come by, so you don't hurt yourself going off the path (to let them by if need be). I almost twisted my ankle a couple of years ago, when a golf cart (which shouldn't have been on the path anyway) came by and I couldn't see to get off the path.

Remember also, that FW RV'ers have GREAT Halloween decorations! Either take the wagon ride, or take a walk around the campsites. They also are terrific at Christmas (and for other holidays too). But Halloween and Christmas are the two biggies. I like FW better than nearly any other resort for holiday decorations. :)
