We stayed at Wilderness Lodge and loved it,Jan 2007. Traveling with 70 year old mom and she loved the lodge. She enjoyed walking around the resort, the lobby, everything centrally located. She could wake up at 5am (after walking"the world" and staying up till the rest of us crashed) and feel safe to get her coffee and stroll, or relax in the lobby until the rest of us woke up. We don't care as much about the rooms, or the cost. In May, we stayed at the Contemporary, and it was just not set up as well for her "strolls." and she felt like she was waiting in the lobby instead of relaxing in the lodge. Now she would like to try another resort for December. Any suggestions would be helpful. She did not like the idea of the all stars because she doesn't like the rooms to have an outside door. ( although her favorite room at the Wilderness Lodge was near the pool with a sliding door, we just won't tell her lol)

It sounds like she would love Animal Kingdom Lodge. Not only could she sit in the lobby she could find a nice sitting place that would give her a view of the animals in the morning. I have heard they are very alike and she would probably enjoy it! Good luck!

I agree, Animal Kingdom Lodge seems like it would be a good fit for her. Another choice would be Boardwalk. Great place for morning strolls, and they have a lovely sitting area off the lobby.

I would suggest the BC/YC. That way, she gets the lobby and common areas in two different resorts, as well as the BCV. There are some lovely rooms where she could sit and read or just relax.

And the Boardwalk is just across the lake if she cares to wander over there too!

I was also thinking of AKL. I didn't know if you liked being close to MK and if you were looking for that I guess I would then say the Poly.

I think the Poly would be a nice choice, pretty scenery, beach side view, very relaxing! But I must say WL is just the best!!!;)

Since price is not a problem, I'd say Poly too.
My mom loved to take walks there and check out all the flowers they have everywhere. It can however be very very dark if the sun hasn't gone up yet.

I'll be a dissent vote here and say that unless you get a room very close to Mara for coffee or stay Concierge or use a pot in the room she may be very unhappy at AKL. We had a room on the same side as Mara but way over (at least an 8 minute trip down to get coffee etc.) and it was not a convenient set up. Yes, the lobby is lovely but I feel the resort is not set up as well as WL nor will it feel as cozy. She may be fine but the strolls could be more like treks! DH who has a back issue was miserable there and it took me three years to get him back to WDW again.

I'd second the Poly although she would have to go outside to get things (unless Concierge) and everything is lovely there!

Sounds like she likes the fact that WL is somewhat compact with a great lobby and pool area.

I found Poly to be very spread out - not at all compact but the grounds are pretty to walk through.

I vote for AKL and request a room near the lobby.

I would love to wake up early and stroll the grounds of the Grand Floridian. That might be a nice choice. I agree with others who said the AKL too

AKL ! AKL !
It is a fairly big resort, but it is all indoor. Believe me, it's not sooo huge that it will be too far of a walk to anything. Your mom will find lots to see along the way on her strolls.I think she'd really enjoy this place. There's nothing like sitting on your balcony or one of the viewing area's with your morning coffee watching the animals start their day. There are many places to view the animals and it can be quite exciting ! The lobby is beautiful with many comfortable seating areas to sit and relax. The food they offer is so delicious too. Boma & Jiko are great! AKL is the best Disney Resort idea(IMHO). It's like getting 2 vacations in
1 ! Try it once and I'm sure you'll see why it can be so addictive.;)

I agree, AKL, Concierge if you can. (They have the best rooms, all Savannah.) We loved WL, we loved our recent AKL stay. How amazing to watch zebras, tommy's, giraffes, etc outside your window! :cloud9: They are out 22 hours per day.
