LOL. Long story short, I'm thinking about making a last minute change to my current reservation in Jan. Right now we have the WL booked for Jan. 26 - Feb. 02 with the Dining Plan and discount code that gives us the free Park Hopper and Water Park upgrade with discount.

Basically, being that my birthday is on Mar. 02, and my wife's spring break is Mar. 03 - 07, Mar. may be a better time to go. The only catch is, we would have to downgrade from WL to POFQ because the budget is established for what we can spend.

Advantages for POFQ in Mar:
1) Warmer weather, and for many people, better weather. (No threat of cold)
2) We can definitely enjoy the free Water Park upgrade in Mar.
3) Boat to DTD
4) My Birthday :woohoo:
5) It is still $200 cheaper than WL in Jan. with discount code applied to both
6) Less closures and rehabs

Advantages for WL in Jan:
1) What can I say, a Deluxe over a Moderate for almost the same price
2) Like the theme of WL better
3) Closest/more convenient to where we'll be eating most (CR, Poly, and EP)
4) Boat to MK
5) In the heart of it all, kind of.
6) That week in Jan. has slightly lower crowds than the week in Mar.

So, given my circumstances and list of advantages for each, which would you choose and why?

Thanks in Advance

I have to vote WL, not only because of the convenience but because of the resort itself. I've stayed at WL and POR (but not French Quarter). I imagine that POR and POFQ are somewhat similar in amenities, etc. You just can't compare to WL; the theming and the grounds are astounding. And being so close to MK and your dining destinations will save you so much time, as opposed to POFQ's location near DTD. If you have to share a bus, that just adds to your time. At WL, you have so many options: boat to CR or MK, then hop on the monorail or the resort ferries, take the bus, etc.

Hope this helps and have a wonderful vacation! :)

The first week of March will have much higher crowds than the last week of January. And it can still get cold that week; it certainly was when we went at that time ... cold and rainy. The clincher though is the WL; a much nicer resort than POFQ, well worth the extra bucks.

I would go with the WL! We were there this past Jan during that time and it was wonderful...and now we plan on taking our Disney vacations in Jan because we had such a fantastic time! We will be there again the week prior to what you're thinking of. During the winter there is no better place to us than WL. Less crowds, comfortable temps, and of course the P&P party :woohoo:

Definitely WL over POFQ. The benefits of a deluxe speak for themselves, inside corridors, TS dining options, all of the MK resorts a mere boat ride away, Boat to MK, queen sized beds, a balcony, the electric water parade, the geyser. Our say at POFQ was awful, in fact DH says if it's between staying there again and staying home, he votes for home. POFQ shared a bus with POR when we were there, so you could easily wait for a bus "home" from a theme park only to find that there will be no room and you have to wait for the next one. The boat to DTD was the same way. If it's the same price by all means choose WL!

WL :goodvibes . That week in Januaury is low crowds and March is peak season. It also still might not be warm enough for a waterpark. Just depends on weather and if you can tolerate cold.

i stayed at the WL in september, and im off to POFQ tomorrow so ill let you know!

although i wanted to say that we went last year in March and it was FREEZING the first week! Nose cold, runny nose, shivering in a sweatshirt kind of thing

I had to vote for WL. I think it just looks like a wonderful place to go in slightly colder weather. Not to mention, if that was how you originally planned it, it is more conv. to a lot of what you're going to do, and you prefer the theme, this is where you should be if finances allow. HTH!

If you haven't already check the AAA rate at the WL for that time in January. I was able to get $191/night standard view pre-tax.

Well, WL is nice.

but I am going that week in March!!!

you can do March - just go early - leave when the park is too crowded -
swim, relax, nap - then go back to the parks that evening.

Since you want to swim this will work!

I know this is going to sound noobish, but how do you get the AAA rate? What do you have to do? Is it combinable with the discount I'm already getting with the code that gives me the free Park Hopper upgrade with a discount on my package?

Thanks

You have to be a member of AAA to use that rate. And as far as I know you can't combine discounts; it's either one or the other.
