DH and i are going back to WDW for our anniversary next april. we rented DVC points for 5 nights at SSR. i want to surprise DH by adding 1 night at WL because i think he'd just LOVE this resort! i have an AP so i'm thinking i can get the room for around $200. anyway, is 1 night at WL even worth it? we would be checking in on a friday morning and i have our day planned that day where we won't be doing anything except enjoying the resort and having pool time and eating lunch at the resort. then we'll head to MK for our last night at WDW. let me know if you guys think it's worth 1 night or if it's just a waste of money because we couldn't take it all in in that amount of time.

also, a couple of specific questions:

1. for lunch do you suggest WCC or roaring forks? we don't want to waste a lot of time eating, but we want something decent, too.

2. if we want to sleep in the next day, what sort of room do you suggest?

thanks for your help!!! :goodvibes

just bumping this up. i know there are some WL enthusiasts out there that can help!

Hey, I'll answer. Yes, in my oppinion 1 night at the WL is worth it, you guys will love it. I would do WCC just to experience it, it's got great food and is such fun I know you guys would love it. You could actually split the skillet to save money.
Also, I recommend the Woods view rooms, they are great and private.
Let me know if you have any other questions.
Lesley

Once that WL hook gets into you its hard to leave. Our trips of long ago were of the 5-8 night stays, seems you were just getting into the swing of things and vacation was over. Our quick solution was to stay 10-12 nights, much better, see the parks and time to enjoy the resort.

We just returned from the WL, Sept 7-17, our 5 or sixth stay here and we had the time required to thoroughly enjoy the resort. We like to completely unpack, set up shop, DVD player plugged in, groceries stored and libations chilling. Lounging around the pool is great, we love it, drinks in a cooler, picnic lunch packed. Its just an enormous resort and one day does it no justice but to make you want to stay longer.

As for a lunch, Roaring Food is the food court, quick fixings there, ample food and the basics but for a real treat, boat over to FW and do the Trails End buffet, its all american cowboy food, best priced buffet on property. We prefer going there or Crocketts Tavern, downstairs in Trails End for hand food and the best pizza on property. Though we stay at WL, we hardly eat at WCC, just don't like the offerings, easier to grab a burger or flatbread pizza from RF, salads there are good too. We most alway share meals at RF, burger is huge and ample fries and we don't like to gorge ourselves on vacation.

HAve never stayed woods view but here is a view from inner courtyard room 6039:

Heck yeah it's worth it! WL is SO beautiful!

we would be checking in on a friday morning and i have our day planned that day where we won't be doing anything except enjoying the resort and having pool time and eating lunch at the resort. then we'll head to MK for our last night at WDW.

That is such a great idea! Hanging out at WL all day will allow you to enjoy it! The pool area is beautiful. And, if the main pool is really busy, head over to the villa pool!

Honestly, I think both of them have good food. I'd do WCC if you want to have a sit-down meal and be waited on. If you just want to grab something to eat, quick, but good, then I'd do Roaring Forks.

Staying at the lodge is definetly worth it even for one night! It is a great resort to just hang out and relax at. The grounds are beautiful, as well as the pool and the beach. Plus the boat transportation to the MK is a big plus!

We've eaten at both WCC and Roaring Forks. The food at WCC is really good and the atmosphere is fun. Roaring Forks is a nice place to eat if you want something quick. You really can't go wrong either way.:thumbsup2

I agree that a Woods View would probably be the quietest. We like to stay in the North Wing on an upper floor which should give you a great view of the MK fireworks if you're in the room. Try to catch the electric water pagent if you can. It's really fun!

While I must admit one day will be tough, it will give you just enough of a taste so that you'll know where you want to stay for your next trip to the World. Relax by the pool, enjoy the hot tub at night, relax by the fireplaces (there is one on the second floor that is very cozy), take to boat over the MK, and eat at WCC for a sit down, roaring forks for a quick bite, and Artist Point is exceptional for a romantic dinner in case you change your mind. I also like to walk on the nature trail over to the campgrounds. And drinking your coffee on the balcony in the am is a must. Have a great time.

Just returned from WL Sept 26-Oct 3. This is our second stay at this resort and we really liked it. Both times we have been booked for a woods view but were upgraded to courtyard with bunkbeds (works great for DS9). We really like this resort and enjoy the things it has to offer. I think you will want more than one night but perhaps the next trip.

We didn't really enjoy WCC but did like Roaring Forks. Nothing special but adequate. They have good salads and sandwiches. Of course they have the burgers, fries and chicken strips. The desserts are yummy - my hips found an additonal 5 pounds after this last visit on free dining.

The water pagent parade is fun. If you walk over to the beach by the marina there are lounge chairs on the beach and you can snuggle up there.

I say heck yes to the WL...its my favorite resort on property.

I'd reccommend Whispering Canyon as well....Roaring Forks is a snack bar, quick service.

Take the time to enjoy the WCC.

Have fun!

Cheers,
Josh

Yes it is worth it to stay there! You would get a taste of it... especially since you would have a resort day to check out the Geyser, the light parade on Bay Lake, the pool, and all the fun!

WCC was a true treat! Lots of fun! Good food and fun. Roarin Forks is well a disappointment compared to the moderate value food courts in choice and small. We did like to eat outside when we ordered from there though.
2. if we want to sleep in the next day, what sort of room do you suggest?

We loved our courtyard view... any room there is a treat. Keep in mind... we were upgraded to the Villas since we had a one night resie before our package there. I declined the Villa, (no way did we want to move rooms with a 4 and 1 year old)but you might get lucky with your one night stay!

thanks for your help!!! :goodvibes

Enjoy all the fun at the Lodge!

Ok, Just curious why you didn't rent DVC at Villas at Wilderness lodge? Was it booked? I think your idea is great but I also think you will be dissappointed you didn't stay there longer. Yes it is worth it for one night, but if you really want to surprise you hubby, ask your renter to put you on the wait list for VWL! The point difference is really small and would cost you less to change the whole week than taking an extra night at WL. Just a thought!

Roaring forks is a good counter service if you want a quick meal. WCC we have never been to because it sounds more like an experience we would not enjoy. But you may love it! I had a friend that stayed there this summer and went to WCC three times because she loved all the hoopla! Go figure!

I would agree with this plan. Although I think even 1 night at WL is worth it, if you could get your whole stay at the VWL, that would be fantastic. I just spent 2 1/2 weeks there, and that wasn't long enough for me. There is so much to do, from renting bikes and boats, to exploring the resort (on your own or on one of the tours), to going to FW (by boat or walking/bike trail), to the pools and hot tubs . . . .it's just a great place.

If you do decide on the one night at WL, my favorite room so far was on the 5th floor all the way back by the lake on the south side. You had a front on view of the lake, but the balcony had wider slats, which gave it more of a private feel. Since we were all the way back by the lake, there wasn't much of anyone walking by the room making noise, which makes it soooo much easier to sleep in.

Food wise, WCC and Roaring Forks are both good, but one is TS and one is CS, so it just depends on which you want. You can get room service for breakfast or dinner, but not for lunch.

*i* want to stay at SSR! :rolleyes1 no, seriously...i like the option of being near DTD. DH likes to sleep in and that means more shopping time for me! i would look into getting that one night at VWL, but the points sky rocket for a friday night and i don't think we can afford it.
