Just to recap, WL honeymoon late Spetember 2002.
DH - 34 first trip to the World
Me - DW, 27, first "adult" trip, avid Disney planner
I have read that if you're taking small children to WDW you should take them to Epcot before taking them to the MK. Then they won't have the same expectations for Epcot as they did with the MK. I should have thought of this when planning our honeymoon. DH LOVED Epcot. We could have spent out entire trip there just roaming around and riding TT and SE. Also, DH and I fell in love with Ice Station Cool. The soda with the ginger was the only thing making his tummy feel better. I was a little worried that DH wouldn't share my joy of being in the MK.
Day three was our first day at the MK. Regardless of all the attractions I love in the other parks, MK will always be my favorite. I could just sit at the Main Street train station and stare at the castle all day. I was kind of apprehensive about DH's reaction to the MK, especially since he enjoyed Epcot so much.
After waiting for what seemed like forever, DH and I boarded the monorail and headed to the MK. Monorail rides are always fun for me. It's great having the opportunity to see the other resorts and have your level of anticipation rise as you get closer to your destination. As we went through security and the turnstiles, I felt like a kid again.
I love Main Street. It brings back memories of the early trips with my grandmother and older sister. There are certain things I miss, like the penny arcade, but it's still one of my favorite parts of the park.
DH and I immediately went to Splash Mountain. If I was going to be wet, I wanted to get dry right away. Since our trip, I refer to SM as Mildew Mountain. Yes, we walked right on and didn't share our car with other passengers. The car smelled and was covered in mildew. This is one of the things I don't understand about Disney. A one day ticket to the park is over $50, and for that amount of money, I expect the attractons to be clean and mildew free. Ok, rant over. DH enjoyed the ride, and from there we went to BTMRR. Up to this point, DH's motion sickness had subsided. He was feeling better when we got to the park, but after one ride on BTMRR, he was feeling icky again. Maybe this is terrible of me, but since he wasn't feeling well, I coaxed him onto Space Mountain. He was already sick, so what could it hurt?
SM was followed with a leisurely ride on TT. Remember when it was the Wed Way People Mover? We went over our plans, and decided we had a lot of time before our PS for lunch at the castle, so we could do more rides.
We did a train ride, Buzz, Alien Encounter, Peter Pan, Small World, Winnie the Pooh (all with little or no wait). Now, I confused the time for our lunch PS. Originally I thought it was for 11:30, but when I checked my card, it was for 12:30. At about 11:00 DH decided he needed a snack to hold him over and maybe settle his stomach. We went to the MS bakery and had a wonderful buffalo mozzarella sandwich and people watched for a while. We wandered around MS for a while, and made our way to the castle for our PS.
Once we entered the castle we met the fairy godmother. She had us sit in the throne, and we had our picture taken with her. She too commented on our bride and groom pins and made sure our server knew it was our honeymoon. We got a wonderful table by the window and enjoyed our lunch. I hadn't been to a meal in the castle since I was a child. I remember going to King Stefan's Banquet Hall and drinking out of the pewter cups. This meal was just as magical as the one I had when I was a little girl, maybe it was because my DH was there to share it with me.
After lunch we headed over to FL, AL, and LS. We did PotC, JC, HM, HoP. After several fun rides, DH got a Coke float and I had an ice cream cone. We got a perfect spot on a bench across from the FL Shootin' Arcade and watched the parade. We did PoC and HM again before heading back to the WL.
The thunder clouds rolled in after we got off the bus at WL. Since we didn't have a dinner PS anywhere, we rested and decided what to do about dinner. We ended up downstairs at the Whispering Canyon Cafe. This was one of the most enjoyable meals of our trip. Our food was great and the atmosphere was so much fun. I guess it's not exactly the romantic atmosphere most honeymooners are looking for, but we had a blast. The family sitting next to us asked for ketchup, and the mom almost died when all the bottles came to her.
Since the rain had just stopped, DH and I decided to wander around the resort and check things out. We had a nice walk, then went back to our room.
I called home to check on little DS, and she was doing better. Also checked in on the "kids" (dog and cat). My mom told me I needed to stop calling home so much and enjoy myself.
DH and I settled in for the night and geared up for another day at the MK.
Coming soon, part five. Can DH make it through another day at the MK, and will he ever meet up with Tigger?
