WL Concierge balconies???

I do not have any pictures but I did stay on the concierge floor at WL in March. I did not like the balconies at all. They are solid wood so you can not see anything while sitting down except the sky. They do provide you with a taller chair but I did not find it very comfortable. I have heard of other people actually getting a room on a lower floor and still having access to the concierge level. This is what I would do if I stayed there again. Good Luck

We stayed on the 5th floor so that we would have a good balcony and just had Concierge privileges added to our card so we could use the Concierge services whenevr we wanted. We still had turn down service, PS help etc.. I thought it worked out great. It did require an elevator ride to get to the food but that really was no big deal.

Thanks! I'm leaning towards staying on a different floor and asking for access to concierge for that very reason. My kids are little (7, 4 and 1) and they love to stand on the balcony and look around.

Ekl 34.

Our preference at the WL is also the 5th floor and this is the reason that we are reluctant to stay again on the concierge floor.

When did you add concierge privalages to your ressie for your 5th floor room stay? I am assuming that you did this at check in (maybe).

What was the approximate cost for concierge acess to be added to your stay? I have heard that "upgrading" at checkin is around $50.00 depending on which room type you have booked in advance.

Thanks in advance.

Forever A Princess,
Yes I asked for the upgrade at check in and was offered it for $40 from our Courtyard rate. I had made my room preference request by fax 4 days prior to arrival and they had met all of my requests with no smoking, bunk beds, good view etc. but all of the 7th floor concierge rooms available had drawbacks such as not having bunkbeds or a worse view and they all had the "bad" balconies. Therefore we opted to keep our original assigned room and it was a great decision.

Thanks for the info! I'm so excited about this.

We also fax our request 4 days prior and ask for our preferences. We know that the requests are not guaranteed but we've had pixie dust on our side and "gotten" the fifth floor every time.

Thanks again.
Renee

I also have a courtyard view Oct5 FTP
From reading these forums This is what I have gathered..
Fax in room request for 5th floor room near the elevators on the Roaring Forks side of the lodge, which would give me a non solid railing balcony. also request flag family. Sound good?
Now for my question..
What is this concierge stuff? is it something worth having for extra $50, and is that a night.

Re: the concierge upgrade...

At check-in ask to be upgraded to concierge. Based on your room rate, you will be given an upgrade cost ($35 -$55)

Is it worth it? It depends. I have a 1 and 4 year old and it was well worth $55 from a combination of convenience and savings on breakfast (and dinner depending on your appetite).

There are several threads on the WL concierge or check out
http://www.wdwig.com/g_wl.htm for pictures of the concierge food table/offerings

But what services do you get? I would do a search for this but the search option is disabled. I also have a 1 &5 year old..

I think that 90% of the concierge service that you get is the food. It was great to not have to wait in line or worry about what to order or have to pay. It was so much simpler in the morning to just get completely ready for the parks and then go to the food area and have a leisurely breakfast and then head to the boat/bus

There was plenty of things that you could take with you too like cereal boxes, celophane wrapped fruit, etc. For a family of 4 breakfast alone makes it worth it. We also had our dinner at concierge on 2 different nights. There are plenty of heavy hors douvres like buffalo chili and cheese, crackers and crustless pb&j sammiches. Our kids would have eaten dinner there every night if we could.

The concierge can also help with PS's but the times we tried to use them was last minute and they couldn't really get us anything. I think if you paid for concierge when you made your initial reservations they can do more for you when it comes to the PS's. But when you upgrade at check in they are more limited.

The main reason for concierge is the food and the lounge area that overlooks the lobby where you get to eat and relax. We also had nightly turn down service which was nice. We had a photo of Mickey in front of WL signed by Mickey to our family sitting on the bedside table when we returned our first night. I don't know if that is because of the concierge status or if that is always done but it was nice.

My DH and I stayed in one of the Honeymoon suites on the Conceirge Floor. Our balcony allowed us a great view of the fireworks at MK. However, our balcony was infested with red ants that made it impossible to enjoy using it. I got bit a few times!!! OUCH!

As for the conceirge service itself the food spread is great!

I called the WL and they were talking desserts, wine and chesse, afternoon tea, ect... at maybe $90 more a night with the fairy tail package. but they told me they weren't sure but to call my travel agent to get the price. I did and the agent is checking later on the price upgrade for me....and did someone say I could do it when I get there? And what are PS's???
what would really turn the tables is ,on the wine and cheese what are we taking about? one glass only? Or as much as you can drink as long as you can walk back to the room. hehehe

The cost for concierge will be higher if you reserve it prior to arrival. If you wait until check in to ask to be upgraded the cost will be lower but availability my be limited.

Now on to the wine question. There are three wines - a white zinfandel, a chardonnay and a merlot. The chardonnay and merlot were probably $10-$12 a bottle wines. Good but not great. I'm sorry I can't remember the names.

The wine is all you can drink and you can take glasses back to your room. However you are not permitted to take a bottle. On two occasions during our stay, a bottle was missing and the staff was very upset.

If you are a wine drinker then the upgrade ($50/night) is easily recovered when you consider how expensive it is to buy adult beverages on Disney property.
