Just a quick question about bunk beds at AKL/WL,

We have already booked at CR but thought we may be able to save money if we went for WL/AKL(in a bunk bed room - no sharing beds).

I rang Disney today to get a quote and the CM told me that the bunk beds are really small and that they would only sleep an average child age 10 or a small 12 year old.

Is this correct??

I have a tall 14 year old, would he be uncomfortable in a Bunk bed?

Thanks for your help:upsidedow

We had a WL bunkbed room - 4th floor - overlooked the pool, partial view of lake and geyzer.

The bunkbeds can handle anyone under 5' 8". My DH 5' 10" could almost get his whole body laying down flat on it.
I would recommend a 14 yr old to sleep on the bottom bunk. It will be easier to get in and out of the bunk (watch the head though).

Our DD, only 4' 5", loved the top bunk - and the ends to hold her purses.
The top bunkbed has railings on all sides. The ladder is at the end of the bed - where one's feet are. Very safe- if the top bunkbed child does not fool around.

Bring book lights if your kids want to read at night. There is no drirect light near the bottom bunk.

Our last stay at WDW was at AK and we had a bunk bed room. The beds seemed to be regular sized twins to me? I could have easily have slept in one, but I am only 5'3, but I don't consider myself the size of an "average" 10-12 yr old. :lmao:

I guess it depends on how tall your 14 yr old.

Two years ago when we went my DS , who at the time was about 5'8, fit fine on the beds. He had plenty of room to move around. They seem like twin beds to me also.

My son is currently about 5'8".

Who knows how much he will grow in the next 4 months:eek:
Thanks for your help so far

We had a bunk bed room at AKL and I decided to try out the bunk bed one night. Being 6'1", I had no problem getting in the bottom bunk and sleeping the night. Only problem was the ladder and my feet kept bumping at night. But it was pleasant sleeping alone.... :rotfl:

Hey Gab

I say this question and thought.....ooohhhh... quick read this and let gab know all about the thread. It wasnt until i opened it that i realised it was your thread:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

I think that the bunks seem to be fine.

We have stayed in both. They are standard bunk beds with standard twin mattresses. They probably seem smaller if you're use to looking at a twin bed without a footboard, but they are just standard beds. Maybe having a footboard would cramp your style (I know my husband likes to hang his feet off the end of the bed!) My sons (who don't like to sleep together either) have done fine with no complaints. 5'11", 5'10" and 5'9". I can't imagine what the CM was talking about.

Thanks Pumba's dad, happy to know that you were more than comfortable, hopefully my DS won't grow bigger than 6'1" by January:rotfl:
Thanks also Soccer mum, you will have some celebration in December, can't imagine how hard it would be to let a son go over to Iraq. Have an awesome celebration, your family deserves it:upsidedow

Perhaps the CM was getting the bunkbeds confused with the little trundle beds at POR. The trundle beds are pretty small.

And I can vouch for my 15 year old who at the time was 6' and 185 pounds slept in an AK bunk bed comfortably. His friend who was quite a bit shorter and slimmer slept in the top bunk though! DS has slept in WL queen beds since and actually prefers the bottom bunks for some reason....
