Wk of Sep 10--2007 WISH Walking/Running Club

Sorry I didn't post sooner. I did my 12 miles on Saturday, and it was WONDERFUL!! It took 2hrs 7min 42 sec. It was funny because about mile 2 I ran into this woman who was running 10 miles at an 11m 30s pace, and her running partner was getting ready to turn around, and saw me running behind them and decided to volunteer me to run with her. I kind of felt bad leaving her behind and ran to mile 4 with her. Right before we hit mile 4 another runner passed us going about my usual pace, and after she turned around I caught up with him and ran the rest of the 8 miles with him. Funny thing was, he was running the same distance as me, is also training for Disney, and is using the same schedule as I am. So it looks like I have found myself some people close to run with!! They are all part of some running group. Anyway, I am running on empty. Between the run yesterday, and the football game earlier tonight.... GO JAGS!! ..... I am just trying to get the photo contest done and I am gonna get my butt to bed. I promise to try and catch up with everyone more tomorrow.

Take Care,
Dana

Mel - great pace improvement! I want to see pics of the costume!

Dave - way to go on not missing a day yet! I find that when I do miss a day, I tend to miss more than one...keep it up!

Cam - hoping those blisters are gone or not bothering you by now!

Matt - loved seeing the pics! Way to go again!

Kristi - way to go on your long run! Doesn't it feel great each time you go a little farther than you have before?

Christa - the tri was 1/2 mile swim, 18 mile bike, 5 mile run. I don't think I have told you this, but I just love your siggie pic!

Amy - yay for a personal record! How cool! The extra mileage is a little interesting, though.

Dana - great long run!

Lynne - Can't wait to hear how you did! I am in AWE of you!!!!!!

As for me, I have post-race blues. Blah. I am just feeling sad and I want to get another chance before a whole year goes by! I am going to get out and run/walk tomorrow. This feeling goes away, right? I have a 5K to look forward to at the end of the month, and a half marathon at the end of October, then WDW! I just need to accept that this is normal and go with it, I guess.

Okay, I have to go to bed but I thought I would take a second to post. My mom and I leave for DL on Friday. I am so excited about the DL 1/2! :cool1: I hurt my back this morning and have a spasm above my left shoulder blade. It is getting better though. Please send PD that my back recovers before next Sunday! :wizard:

I can't wait to hear from Lynne! I know she did fantastic! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

Wendy - your race schedule sounds exciting! Dumb question time.....when in October is RFTT???? I will be in WDW the end of October! We are going to MNSSHP ON Oct 31st....Scarrrrrrry!

The Central FL RftC and the RFTT are both the same weekend -- October 7-8. It's the first time I've ever done them and I'm very excited.

Matt - Great pictures...you're a lovely couple :)

It figures that my shoes are giving out a week and a half before my marathon...grrr....oh well if I must go shopping, then I must. :thumbsup2

Good morning everyone. :sunny:

It's nice to be back. I was away for vacation 2 weeks in August, then busy with back-to-school and back-to-work until now. I can tell I have to do a lot of reading and catching up on the news around here.

Missed a lot of training while on vacation. I think I finally found my groove and new routine/schedule last week. No progress on improving my pace, tho. Still anywhere between 13:15 and 13:45.

One bright spot: on Saturday, DH joined me on my short walk (5 miles). He's a runner and needed an "off" day before football season wore him out every Sunday. (That's not a joke, he works for the Ravens and spends every Sunday running up and down the sidelines with a 30 lb. TV vid cam on his shoulder.)

Anyway, for his "off" day he decided to walk with me. He said he'd never do it again. Said walking fast for 5 miles like me is just as hard as running 5 miles for him. Except, he said, my way is more tiring because it takes longer.

After I got over the realization that before Saturday he thought walking was for wimps, I was pretty proud of myself. :goodvibes

Have a great week everyone.

Hi everyone ran lr 18 miles this weekend. Did not go well was a little slow ran it in 3 hrs off my norm. I thinking maybe lack off sleep and work stress. Last real long run before marathon in Oct. Good luck to everyone this week and looking forward to hearing all your stories. :thumbsup2

This is VERY normal. I always feel a little down after a big race. It is good you have other things to look forward to.

Ryley - I am so sorry you had a hard run. Look at it this way....You got the "bad" run out of the way so you can do GREAT on the marathon! :cheer2:

Lynne - I am dying to hear how you did.

Kelnottat - I have to agree that walking that far is hard! Glad DH now knows how hard you work.

Wendy - That sounds SO fun! I will be doing my trail marathon that weekend...if I ever sign up. :teeth:

TXBelle - Lottttts of :wizard: :wizard: for your back!

Dana - OOOOO new running partners....that will make it so much fun! Glad the 12 miles went well! :cool1:

I am always amazed at how much you do, Christa. Please let us in on your secret! Work, kids, working out all the time, plays & shows....
Kristi - My secret is that I am  in the head! :lmao: I make my own hours at my "real' job, so that sometimes makes everything else easier.

Getting ready to take the JRT out for a run.....she is sleeping now, but I cannot run the trails by myself.

About my epidural… In the consultation I was very clear that my symptoms were on both sides, but mostly the right. At the end of the consult she said, “bilateral, but concentrate on the right” to herself as she wrote notes. When I got to the OR they ask me which side, I replied, “both sides, but mostly the right” this happened a couple of times. They repeated to each other many times “the right side”. They wrote “yes” on my right side and asked me if that was correct. I have kicked myself a million times since, because I said “yes”.

Well, I got treated for my right side. When I got up they asked how I felt and I said, “good, but my left side really hurts”. They laughed!? I don’t know how that could have been construed as a joke. My Mom and I walked back to the car and the left side hurt so bad I couldn’t get in the car. I lost it (again). We stormed back in through the “authorized personnel only” doors and caused a scene. I had nurses flying in all directions, some were grabbing blankets to put over me and finding a chair. I was crying and speaking very loudly demanding to speak to the doctor. One nurse came over and said in a very soothing voice, “you do realize you may not get immediate results from the epidural” and I almost screamed back “THAT’S NOT THE PROBLEM, SHE ONLY TREATED ONE SIDE”. I must say though, before this scene, I was the perfect patient saying please and thank you and not complaining about the one hour and 45 minute delay from when the procedure was supposed to take place. That is partly why my left side hurt so bad, we sat in bad chairs for almost 2 hours prior to the procedure.

They finally got her on the phone and put me on with her. She was asking all sorts of technical medical questions and I finally said “I don’t know what you’re talking about” at which point she said “Sunny?, oh, I thought I was talking to a nurse”. (How many nurses cry hysterically on the phone?????????) After a rather argumentative 5 minutes in which I kept saying, “I told you it was on both sides and you acknowledged that” she said “I can only treat one side at a time, we can do the left side but we have to wait one month”. But she didn’t make that statement right from the start so I really question it’s validity. She is either lying, or she is in gross negligence of not preparing me for what to expect. The diagram she had me fill out has my “x’s and o’x” and dashes, etc all over the right and left side signifying burning, stabbing, tingling, etc.

So her advice by the end of the conversation was for me to keep taking my percocet. I was so in hopes that I was going to be done with that after the shot. I haven’t spoken with her again yet (this all took place late Friday afternoon). But I’m pretty sure this means I can only get three shots in total, not three shots on each side. (Lynne, Mel, correct me if I’m wrong).

Anyway, the shot is helping significantly on the right side. The pain is not gone, but it’s manageable. I’m being totally diligent about my PT in hopes to make it last. Now I have to call about the left side.

Sara-- your concerns of my Goofy plans are valid. I am having serious second thoughts. I've gone from hoping to be able to run again to just hoping I can take care of my kids and maybe do an occasional load of laundry...

Dave-- I'm glad I got you out there last week. Keep getting out there!

Matt-- great photos of you and DW's 10K.

I'll catch up more later.

Sunny

Oh Sunny, I am so sorry that you are going through this. It is not fair! :furious: Here are some real big :tinker: :tinker: :tinker: for you and a little pluto: to help you feel better!

OMG, Sunny -- I don't even know what to say, sweetie. I can't begin to imagine. All I can do is keep you in my prayers and WISH the best for you. I am glad you are feeling some measure of improvement on the right side and I hope that really bodes well for continued improvement and the likelihood of bilateral resolution. Sending you a  hon.

Sunny- You have the worst health care providers!!!! They make me sooooo mad! :furious: I'm so sorry that you are still in pain, and have to suffer the pain of dealing with an unsympathetic and unhelpful system. I wish there were something more we could do to help. We're here for you!!! :tinker: pluto: :tinker: pluto: :tinker: pluto: :tinker: pluto:

Sunny, is there anyway you can change doctors???? I would rethink going back to her. Good luck with that and I'm sorry you're in so much pain.

Sunny - I am speechless myself. I feel so very badly for you and I know that no words can offer you the comfort you are seeking. :grouphug:
My previous comment about your Goofy training plan was in no way meant to discourage you from that dream, just my worrying that you could be jeapordizing your health. Glad to hear you're getting relief on the right side. Hoping you get some serious answers as to the misunderstanding soon. I continue to keep you and yours in my thoughts and prayers. :wizard:

Greetings TEAM:

OK, I got my 45 min run in. I did 4.51 miles in 45:09 min/10:01 mpm. The run actually felt really easy. My legs felt great. I ran the Mt Hope Cemetery loop which is very hilly. This is the route I used to do regularly in the Spring until my shins started hurting me. That's when my PT told me to run on some flat surfaces. I haven't tried the hills of Mt Hope since April.

Here are my splits:
Mile 1: 10:11
Mile 2: 9:28
Mile 3: 10:03
Mile 4: 10:07
last 0.51 mile: 5:18

OK, off to make dinner.

:thumbsup2 Nice run Dave! Wow...congrats on tackling that hilly run and with a nice easy pace too. Super effort!!

Sunny: I'm so sorry to hear of your continued struggles with the physicians and your back pain. I just can't believe all that you've been through in the past 6 months or so.

So today is my rest day. Which is fortunate since I think I really pushed it too much last week. We'll see how tomorrow goes...but as of right now I may have to take another rest day. :guilty: Oh well...can't burn myself out this early in training so we'll see what tomorrow brings.

Been really busy so haven’t had time to catch up. Did get LR in this weekend:
Mile 1 13:00
Mile 2 13:41
Mile 3 13:18
Mile 4 13:11
Mile 5 12:15
Mile 6 12:09
Mile 7 12:36
Mile 8 12:30

Tonight it was raining really hard so I got stuck on TM. I hyper-extended by right knee right off, so had to go slow:
Mile 1 15:55
Mile 2 15:09
.25 Mile 6:38
Decided limping wasn’t a good sign, so stopped there. Not sure why the treadmill always gives my knee such a hard time. But I will keep moving forward.

Hope everyone has a great week.

Sunny: :wizard: & prayers coming your way.
