Wk of Mar 25--WISH Walking/Running Club

Good morning, everyone. :sunny:

I had a nice 10mi LW on Saturday (13:24 avg pace) then spent the rest of the weekend in Washington, DC for a wedding. Hey, what marathon was in DC on Saturday? They were just re-opening the streets as we arrived.

And, btw, what a difference 40 miles makes. In DC all the flowers and trees were in bloom. But, back at home, 40 miles to the north, we barely have buds and shoots. :confused3

RedDragon - Very sorry to hear about your neighbor's son. We just had a teen suicide in our circle of acquaintances 2 weeks ago. Simply tragic. My heart goes out to them.

Cecilia - great job on you half! :cool1:

I'm gonna post a poll in a separate thread about calories burned. Please participate. :)

Jen - I don't remeber which Garmin you have, but for teh 205, under training assistan, there is an auto lap feature. Should be somewhat similar on teh others. Sorry tha tit seems slow to you.

Andrew - lol. I intersprersed my GArden Weasel to change it up. It's liek a hand rototiller. That can really get you going.

Kelley - Congrats on the 10-miler

Stephanie - Ugh. 3 web seminars?? I'd rather be doing my taxs. ;)

Dave - That pain does not sound good. I vote fro the swog!

Angie - That sounds like XT to me!!! Beign out in the field tires me out like nothing else. lol, my dh uses me to keep his pace slow. It' snice to be of value. ;)

Leana - Glad you got some of this great weather too!

Oh, I wore a sweatshirt, not realizing it was 75 degrees yesterday. No wonder I was sweating! The heat shoudl help me with Minnie training, though. SHould eb 75 again tooday for your 50 min (?) run.

I think my pre-pain indicators are getting better. Then again, I don't know if it's jhust that I can't feel them over my raking/weeding muscles. ;) We'll see tonight.

Dave - I have had that exact same pain. I thought it was from my back injury or sciatica. I am really not sure, but it has come and gone several times. Some times it is quite severe, while others it is not. I do stretches form sciatica and that seems to help. Also, it would feel better when I ran, but when I stopped running the pain was back. Good luck to you. I usually took 5 days off when it was severe and that helped along with the stretches.

Carrie - The weather is quite warm and humid here also. I couldn't believe how warm it was when I ran yesterday. Thankfully it was also quite windy. Thanks for the Garmin instructions. I will go back to that section and re-read. I found how to do intervals of walk/run, that was interesting. I have the 301.

My DD6 is home sick today, so I am at work for a bit this morning and then will go home and send DH to work. I am a little sleepy because she woke us up at 1am and I was up for about 2 hours tending to her fever.

Good morning everyone. I actually got out of bed and did 3 nice miles! What a great start to a Monday.

Cecilia You beat the Kenyans! How cool!

Matt Congrats on the PR!

Vic and Bill- I cringe everytime my DH picks up a wrench for just this reason.

Angie I hate it when DH is right. Glad you made it through without your pacer.

Jen-Are you running over hillier terrain now that you are outside? Maybe that could explain the time difference?

To everyone else have a great day!
Kiena

Good morning WISH team!!! :sunny: Happy Monday!! Yesterday was a rest day, so I rested really well, I rested so well that I took a nap from about 5:00-6:30. :teeth: Yeah, I paid for that last night at 11:00 when I was wide awake, but it felt so good at the time. :) Okay, I have to brag on myself a little bit, so indulge me. I have become the master dinner planner. On Friday afternoon I planned out what Stephen and I are going to have for dinner for the next 2 weeks. I went to the grocery store on Saturday and got everything I need for this week, when I came home, I separated the fresh chicken into Ziploc bags and put them in the freezer; each bag has 2 breasts--one for Stephen and for me, so now we can just throw the Ziploc bag in the microwave to defrost. Last night I made a marinade and then marinated chicken for dinner tonight and I chopped all the veggies I will need for tonight's and tomorrow night's dinner and put them in Ziploc bags in the refrigerator. I'm hoping with everything planned out and doing all the prep work a night or 2 in advance, I can come home, run and then throw dinner together without having to think about it. And since half the work is done, I won't be tempted to order pizza for dinner. I also got my new crock pot--the smart programmable one, I'm using that for the first time tomorrow. Thanks everyone for all the help, tips, and recipes!!

Laundry Update--It's about half done, and Stephen has helped me, so I won't have to hurt him. Too bad. ;)

Cecilia--Awesome half marathon!!! That is hysterical about the Kenyans!!!! You now have proof that you are fast!

Kristi--You are too funny about the GGD's!!! Do you think they recognize you by now? Don't worry about your lr yesterday being shortened, it's much better to stop when you aren't feeling it then to continue and risk injury. Especially the week before your half marathon.

Melissa--Are you sleeping right now? :faint: Let us know how your adventure race went.

Vic--So sorry about your spigot! What a headache! :headache: At least you got your run in before all the excitement. By the way, your house is the same age as me. ;)

Angie--Are you tan?? Lucky! Have fun on the aircraft carrier!!

Jeanne--I'm glad you figured out your foot pain and that it was nothing serious.

Martha--I am so sorry to hear about your neighbor's son. Suicide just breaks my heart and I think it has got to be much, much harder than a natural death. I'll keep that family in my prayers, unfortunately they have a long road ahead of them. Hopefully they can find some peace in the midst of all their pain.

Kristin--You can come and deep clean my house too! I'll give you fair warning though; I have a black lab that sheds quite a bit. :) Nice job sticking with the run even though you were hot and your legs ached.

Mel--I love the Balega socks!! I bought a couple more pairs this weekend at the Expo, but until then I would reserve my 1 pair for long runs. I would dig through the laundry basket (because it takes us at least a week to put clothes away  ) to find them. They are the best! Sorry the protein bar didn't work for you, I can't eat Clif Blocks for the same reason. I gotta say, I agree with Bill, I see nothing wrong with the Diet Coke and a Snickers bar. :teeth:

Dave--I never thought I would say this to another man, but pixiedust: for your booty!!! Hopefully the swog today will loosen things up.

Carrie--I have a yard too that needs some TLC if you want to come visit me. :rolleyes1 And since I live in a new neighborhood, we don't have trees, so we don't leaves, that will save you quit a bit of time right there. :teeth:

Andrew--Nice job finishing your run in the rain. Don't you feel like it makes you feel dedicated? Or maybe just crazy.

Jen GA--Snakes?? :scared1: Alligators??? :scared1: :scared1: You deserve a purple heart for courage!!

Nancy--Everyone has bad runs/walks, shake it off, get back out there, and never give it a second more of your thoughts. Great job for sticking with it.

Jen--Did you buy anything good on your shopping trip???

I get to try my inserts for the first time tonight. Crossing my fingers that they will work. I wore them Saturday night when Stephen and I took Hines for a walk (trying to get him to throw up the sock he ate. He finally did after 2 tbsp of peroxide), we only did a lap around the neighborhood, so about a mile. I didn't notice the insert on my left foot, but I could feel it on my right--that's the foot I over pronate on. The inserts didn't bother me while I was wearing them, but when I took my shoes off, my feet were cramping, I guess that's normal. I have 4.5 miles tonight; we'll see how they do.

I better post this and then see go back and see what I missed in the hour it took me to write this. I'm sure I'll be back in a few minutes. :hourglass

Krista - I'd love to do your yard work, if you'll do my taxes! HAve I mentioned that I have this little side business that needs all the paper work inoput since, oh, last Feb? :scared:

Kiena - Way to go on the 3-miler!

Jen - Hope dd's doing better soon!

Greeetings from the pollen covered south! Everyone's car has that wonderful yellow-green film on it. I just got back from my 3 miler & although it is warmer than I would like, I am still very grateful to get to train outside!

I finally got around to downloading some new music this weekend. I'll post it on the music thread, but I just wanted to tell you guys about this one song: Jennifer Lopez- Let's Get Loud Great beat & inspirational words about living life to the fullest (isnt that what we are all trying to do here :goodvibes )

If you wanna life your life, live it all the way & dont you waste it
Every feeling, every beat, can be so very sweet, you gotta taste it
You gotta do it, you gotta do it your way
You gotta prove it, you gotta mean what you say

Kristi-Cool, you get to go see J.T. & Pink. Some of there new stuff is what I just downloaded! Dont feel bad about your 5 miles, you got out there and I think 10 miles this close to your 1/2 is too much anyway. Good luck with the asthma, DS is suffering big time with all this pollen.

Krista-Wow, I am wayyy impressed with your dinner planning. I need to get myself organized too. I can run in the a.m. but in the evening is the endless caravan to kids activities.

Cecilia-WTG, can you use that finish line pick of you beating the Kenyan for proof of time in Jan & get Elite status ;) I may have to come do that race next year, I'm originally from ATL & I would love to do a race there.

Vic- Too funny :lmao:

Dave-I thought of you yesterday. We took DS's to the track so my oldest could do a duathlon in prep for his tri in a few weeks. There was a runner dad there doing a bunch of laps & had 2 princess: with him. They alternated between playing in the grass, riding their bikes, etc. When they left he had to haul 2 bikes, 2 scooters, 2 balls & 2 girls to the car. I thought, awe what a great dad, hanging out at the track with his girls just like Dave.

Kelly-great job on your LR!

Have a great week everyone!

Krista - WOW on the dinner planning. That sound awesome. I have most of this week planned and am really going to use the crockpot to save time.

As for shopping... it was major thrifty retail heaven!!! For myself, I got a new pair of jeans (Dh says they look awesome), a knit poncho (pink), and a tank top. The DD's each got a summer tank dress that they will wear for easter with a white sweater, and they each got a cute t-shirt with rhinestones on it. DH got a button up tropical like shirt and a Mickey Mouse t-shirt and a new winter jacket for next year. You want to know what we spent all all these goodies.... $101.01. It was amazing deal day!!!!

Well, I have an all staff meeting to conduct, then I am running home to sicky DD. Supposidely her fever is gone and she is feeling better. It was up to 102 at 2am.

OK - I may have to swap days and get my 4 miler in tonight and save my weights for tomorrow. This afternoon is supposed to be 48 degrees and sunny, but tonight we are supposed to get 4 inches of snow! So much for saying that I thought Calgary might be firmly entrenched in spring...ha!

Hi Everyone! -

Tiff and Angie - I would definately recommend the ING Georgia for next year. I know I will do it again. It is a great way to see downtown Atlanta!

Have a great week everyone - remember - If I can beat the Kenyans then so can you! Train hard.

Cecilia

Good morning everyone!

The golden spigot passed inspection this morning. Stupid spigot. :rotfl:

Laurie said:
Vic--a $255 spigot..ouch! I can't believe a stinking spigot could cost that much. Glad to hear you were able to get it fixed today. So, how do you like the new Car of Tomorrow?? I am not a big fan yet. Maybe I will change my mind next week, DBF and I are heading to Martinsville for the race, maybe the COT will grow on me in person! At least Dale Jr. had a decent race today, even though he didn't really like his car!

I'm not sure how I like the Car of Tomorrow. It doesn't look like a stockcar. I'm hoping it's going to grow on me. Glad to see Junior got a top ten. Looks like he's 17th in points right now. I suspect he'll be in the top 10 before long. :)

Krista - Hines' eating socks again? Poor guy. I don't know what's worse, Hines eating socks or Earnhardt eating poop. I have to go out and babysit him in the mornings and evenings so he doesn't indulge. Crazy Labs!

Tiffj - I hear ya about the pollen. Sure would be nice to get a little rain. I have a feeling we're in for another dry spring and summer. As long as the hurricanes stay away, I guess I won't complain.

Y'all take care.

:)

Vic--GAG!!!!! I am so glad that Hines is not a poop eater. I will gladly take the occasional sock over poop. :scared:

Carrie--Um, you can do your taxes, but thanks for offering!

Kiena--I wish I could get up in the morning and run. That must be a great start to the day and to know you don't have a run hanging over your head must be even better! Way to go!

Jen--I think you and I need to take a shopping trip while we are in Chicago!!! You got some great deals! I love to shop and I love finding a bargain even more. :) I hope your daughter is feeling better, there's been a nasty virus going on around here.

Leana--4 inches of snow???? Ay ay ay!!!!

Good morning!! I read most of this week's thread last night and I was really sleepy, so I'll bet I missed some stuff!!

Tiff - We are all green and pollen covered here too!! That is terrible on the sinuses and throat!! We have our windows open, so our wood floor and kitchen table look green:thumbsup2

Dave - sorry about the booty pain. mine really bothered me during this last race! I think mine has been chronic since last feb. I know i need to stretch more. I think mine is in part to tight hamstrings and tight low back muscles. I hope it clears up more quickly for you. If you figure out the way to get rid of it let me know (unless it is no activity, then just don't tell me!!)

Krista - I'm impressed w/ your meal planning. that is so oranized. I'm trying the super supper thing. I haven't used any of them yet, but i hope they are good.

Matt - good job on another race!

Craig - I loved your question about 6yo and energy bars!!!! I have let the boy eat an "energy" bar before. I have to admit he doesn't seem to need more energy!! I used to bribe him to ride in the bike trailer w/ Mand Ms!!

THANK YOU WISH TEAM!!!!! I can't tell you how special I felt to see all of the comments that you guys posted for our Adv. race team. It really encouraged me that you followed our race!! THAT MADE MY WEEKEND! Of course, we didn't have access to any of that until after the race, but I did talk to the race director at race finish and I asked him if the checkpoint tracker site was working. He siad that it seemed to be working pretty smoothly but had crashed at one point during the race as it was getting so many hits. I smiled and told him all about you guys. I told him about the WISH team and that I'll bet some of you were checking on the race status!! He said "wow, they sound cool!" I'll post a race report later, but I do want to say that I thought about you guys quite a bit and I felt like you were watching and rooting for us!

Total drive-by here. WTO issues! UGH. Plus I've been up since 2:00am!

The good news is....I finally got outside Saturday morning. It was glorious! Did five miles, but forgot to bring in splits to tell you guys today. I was pretty happy with them. Heck, I was happy just to be outside!

Now, the bad news...I've been up since 2:00am because, like my man Tony, I think I'm having "fuel pump" issues. Actually, I woke up at 2am with my heart racing faster then the Car Of Tomorrow. I have a call into my doctor. I think it's time to check things out.

Oh and I'm off in 45 min to see Dr Hunka-Hunka Burning Love about my knee. :headache: It's totally swollen and feels weak. Although it does not bother me during training.

No training to report yet today. I fell back asleep at 5:30 for 45 minutes so I ran out of time.

I miss you guys! :hippie:

Mine is better. Last year our shower was leaking. I figured out what the problem was and got the part. I shut the water off on the side of the house where you are supposed to and figured everything was good. The shower was fixed in under 10 minutes and I went to turn the water back on. The valve turned but no water appeared. Yep the valve broke closed. Lynnda was not too happy. I called a plumber the next day and got the valve replaced.

Mine is even better;) A couple of years ago my bathroom sink started to leak underneath. We kindof put it off by using a bucket correction system. Well, one morning while getting ready for work the thing let loose. I desparately looked for a shut-off in the bathroom but there was none. So a quick dash to the basement reminded me of something very, very stupid we did... We put a book shelf infront of the water main valve:sad2: While water was gushing out upstairs I was flinging books as fast as I could to shove the shelf aside. Finally I got the water shut off and called a plumber. It cost $200.00. All the plumber did was replace a washer. The 200 was for the labor and minimum call fee. After all was said and done, a few of my ceraminc tiles came loose from the flood. I fixed those myself and made a huge mess with the grout. It was definitely cx worthy effort scraping the junk back off!

ETA: Just incase our stupidy dumbfounds you, I must explain that the water main is inside a panelled miniature door, so even though we knew it was there, it blended in with the rest of the wall... ok, maybe I just made it sound more stupid....

Now you would have thought I learned something from that. :rolleyes1 The next day, I was going to replace a heating element in the hot water heater and turned the valve off next to the water heater so I could drain part of it. That part went in quickly as well and I went to turn on the water. Once again that valve broke off as well. I decided that it wasn't worth calling the plumber back (it was a weekend) so I figured I could solder it just as well as they could. Lynnda was panicking thinking we would never have hot water again. However it actually worked and I replaced all the other valves that were that style.

The moral of that is never use the gate valves on the main water lines to the house. Apparently they are the cheapest so that is what builders use but the break very easily due to mineral/junk buildup in the water. Lynnda still worries when I go and try to fix something but I haven't had any more problems. :rolleyes1

Bill

Bill, your story reminded me of a PBS special I saw years ago about the NYC water system. The documentary claimed that because the valves are so old, they don't do period maintenance on much of the system because of fear of that very thing happening!

AHHH, Pollen! I can barely open my eyes!;)

It has been BEAUTIFUL this week end. So I took full advantage of it.
Thurs - I think I already posted about my 9.something mile run
Friday - Drama stuff....I mean I had a show.
Saturday - Ran 6 miles with Bree...we had fun.
Sunday- Biked 22.5 miles in 1:30 (is that good?) It was a HILLY course.
Monday - I ran 4 miles on the trail. It took me about an hour b/c of tummy issues. Lets just say that I am an expert at using the bathroom in the woods now. And thats all I will say about that.:scared:

Matt, I think I agree with you about running the day b/4 you bike...instead of biking then running the next day...:confused3 My butt hurts.

Judy - :grouphug:

Melissa - WTG on the race! WOW!:cheer2:

Leana--4 inches of snow. OUT OF CONTROL!:scared1:

Cecilia - WTG on the race and beating the marathon finisher!:cool1:

Drive by... 'cause I am a mess.

But first training update:
Friday = 7 miles, avg pace 11:52, very hilly course. It was supposed to be a pace run, so I guess my VT pace is 12mpm! I can live with that... or at least I can hope for that!

I finished Friday's run at ~6:45PM and started Sat's LR ~6AM

Note to self (11 hours is not enough recovery time for an LR)

I did 11 miles as planned, but my overall pace was 14:08. That did include a drawn out coffee break. (My running coffee break consists of turning off Garmin when I enter Dunkin's and turning it back on when I exit. I set a new lap while I walk and sip, then set a new lap when I resume running.)

Bad news: I did the break around 8miles and resuming my run was horribly painful.

More bad news (i.e., "i'm a mess stated above")

I may be suffering BPV (benign positional vertigo). My brother gets it from time to time and I had it twice last year (both times just after having pneumonia). Or, I might have messed myself up on Saturday by forgetting to take my noontime Neurontin and then taking it at 6PM and taking my night-time dose at 10PM.

Whatever the cause, I can barely stand or walk. It's as if my body is completely drunk but my mind is "normal" (? I think). (no I have not consumed any alcohol). I had DD drive to to work and Dx will pick me up.

It started yesterday. I'll wait until Wed before I decide it's something major that requires a call to the dr.

Beyond that, I'm in a lot of pain and getting ready to schedule another injection. I don't know why, the last one only lasted about 3 weeks. But it's the only thing being offered to me so I might as well try it. The dr added a muscle relaxant at bedtime because I can't sleep due to pain. (that was 2 weeks ago so I doubt it caused the sudden BPV). I feel drugged out all the time. After being (mostly) decaffienated for six years, I am back to demanding coffee all day long to keep awake.

I'm not too happy with my situation right now.

Sunny

Cecilia and Steve--- Congratulations on your races this past weekend.

Rosy-- Glad you are safe.

Jen-- You got to love those great bargain shopping days.

Leona--- Spring will be here soon. Hope the snow melts fast.

Judy and Sunny--- Hope you both are feeling better soon.

Jeanne--- I did have a rest day between my Thursday 11 miler and my Sat and Sunday 4 milers. I still feel exhausted today almost the feeeling you get when you have the flu, but I don't feel sick. Today is a rest day. I don't even think I have the energy to go to Pilates. What ever restaurant we go to Sat night is fine with me. There are alot in the area. There is a Carrabba's if you want Italian. Also that Pistachio's that I mentioned last year that has a big menu. We are not picky eaters. We are in WDW Oct 17-26 and Nov 28-Dec 7.

I know all about those water problems. We have an older home and I have had several water flood issues. The worst was when the small connector between the water and the toliet holding tank in our basement bathroom broke and we were on vacation. My neighbor noticed water pouring out our garage and down the driveway. He is a retired plumber and shut the water off and repaired it and tried to clean up some of the water. Nothing like coming back from vacation and having to deal with a soaked carpet and everything on the floor being wet. My most recent was the hot water heater squirting water out everywhere and the basement drain not working to get rid of the water.

Lunch is over so back to work for me.

Nancy

Oh no. Oh no. Noooo. :sad2:

I just got back from Dr Hunk-a Hunka Burning Love. I have to go for an MRI to confirm it, but he's pretty sure I snapped off my ACL. You know, the one he replaced about 18 months ago.

I'm sick. Just sick. :sad1:

I AM RUNNING THE MINNIE.
I don't care!
