Wk of June 3--WISH Walking/Running Club

lustergirl - Yay! SOunds like you have the right attitude! Right now, it's all about getting those steps in (going a set time or distance). The speed will come. BTW, I've been having issues lastely and am just ngetting things back in check and trying to run regularly. It's disappointing. Dh reminded me, though, that 2 years ago, before our first full marathon, I was not capapable of runnign 2 miles straight at this time. It will come. Last thing, even when I am at teh starting line of the marathon, I can't think about runnign 26 miles or being our there for 5 or 6 hours. One step at a time. That 3 miles sounds tough for you now. Just awit, though. If you stick to it, one day you will come on here and say, "I only have to do 3 miles today." :goodvibes

Kevin - I'm stll debating btwn pavement and pool workout. Hoping that wind helps a lot. Keep thining that there will beno pool option for CDC and it may be time for me to suck and deal. Good uck with that run. OMG, I almost forgot about saving the Garmin! Don't you almost wish for snow snow. OK, nto really, but cooler would be nice.

Erica - So sorry about the stonkr yesterday. Hope today is better!

Megan - Hang in there! They do mean well. During breaks from college my mom yused to comment on how my butt never used to be so round. I hear ya!

Sara - Happy taper! SOudns liek your body's ready for it!

Leana - Way to listen to your body and take a rest day! Loved the story about your mom!!!

Dave - Many do have worse problems. However, if home's not a happy place, there's nothing worse. :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: Havea great date night!

WOw, cool artical Vic. I hate to think abuot how much protein I should be eating from that! OK, so it's 9 fruits adn veggies and 100+ grams of protein per dayy. I think I'm full just thinking about it!

Dave - Not quite sure what to say but I just wanted to send :wizard: and :grouphug: that your DW will change her mind and understand. A non-runner is a cranky DF & DH may not be bad to sneak into the conversation ;)

Total drive-by....but...

Chad got a job!!!
For those who don't know, he got laid off before Christmas.
And unemployment was running out next month.
And he is making alot more an hour than he used to & alot more than me  .
It's part time too - about 32 hrs. a week. That is what we wanted though - FT is too much with Zack & the working opposite shifts thing.

The down side is that he is back to nights & weekends. :sad2:

AND (mostly importantly) we can do our trip to WDW of ToT!!! :woohoo:

Kristi - Awesome news!!! Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!

So glad you guys will be at ToT!

So far today has been alot better than yesterday, though I have no clue as to what awaits me at work tonight.

I did about 2.5 miles in 92* F temp with a brisk wind before I realized I lost my water bottle somewhere...not good! So needless to say, dehydration was not an option, so home I went!

Erica:)

Hello Everyone,

My second week of running has gone well (after doing nothing for 13 weeks post knee surgery). I'm exercising every other day to ease the knee back into training: 3 times this week I biked 4.5 miles to the local high school track; ran 2-3 miles on the track; then biked the 4.5 miles home.

I feel wiped out after the 3.0 mile run, which is a little discouraging for me as last February I completed a local winter 10-miler that I run every year. However, I'm making progress! I'm going to baby my knees so they show up in top form next January (not that I'm obsessing, but it is 31 weeks and 2 days to WDW marathon weekend 2008).

I enjoy reading all the training posts; nice work WISH team!

Yeah, Kristi!

I feel wiped out after the 3.0 mile run, which is a little discouraging for me as last February I completed a local winter 10-miler that I run every year.

The Mid-Winter 10 Miler in Cape Elizabeth is a tougher race imo than the half marathon at Disney. It's hillier, tends to be windy and have I mentioned how much I dislike 'racing' in the cold. About the discouragement, it took a year and a half of rehab before I could run more than 1.5 miles after my third knee surgery but I've done 3 Ironmans and 3 stand alone marathons since then so just keep chipping away at it. You should consider doing the Portland Half in October as a training day:)

Back to lurking. Hat order is coming together. Didn't get quite as many as I was hoping. Next race is the Muskoka Chase June 17th, a 2 K swim, 55 K bike and 15 K run. It's held in Huntsville, ON about 3 hours NORTH of Toronto. There are moose crossing signs on the bike course:) That and the Partriot Half Ironman July 1st in MA are going to be used as race simulation/tune ups for Ironman Lake Placid.

Keep training hard everyone and pixie dust for those that are struggling w/ injuries or life issues:wizard:

I was surprised you were familiar with the Mid-Winter 10-miler in Cape Elizabeth! :) Are you somewhat local? Yes, it's a challenging race: I've run it in shorts some years, and I've run it with 3 layers of tops, two pair of tights, a neckwarmer and two hats on other years! (this year: 14 degrees at start).

Upon moving back to Maine in 1999 I have run it every year; I feel bound to run the race whether I am in shape or not as I have completed 8 in a row; and I have found that knowing I have to run a 10 miler in the winter keeps me honest and training in the cold weather. Of course the added benefit is the best race shirt I have ever received: a long-sleeved mock-T.

As for your Maine Marathon/Half suggestion, that is a nice goal for me, but I may not quite be up to 13.1 by then. I did run the Maine Half in 2004 and enjoyed the race.

Thank you for your encouragement and your effort in coordinating the WISH hat orders!

Hey all. Just wanted to post this quick, so I don't get yelled at for posting after the fact. Tonight is free Root beer Float night at Sonic from 8-midnight. I'm finishing mine right now!;)

Kristi--Great news about Chad's job!

I'm just checking in for now. Cam, you were asking about pace so I'll share what I am doing. Today called for w3/r1 10 times for a total of 40 minutes. (I think that I am on the same day as you are.) My walking pace is fairly slow, about 3.7-3.8, but I was able to push my running pace up to 6.0 because I can maintain that for a minute at a time. I have to tell you that I felt great! This is a plan I can live with and stick to. I was surprised to see that I was able to maintain an overall pace of about a 14 min mile. That is almost the same as what I was doing when I was trying to do more running and less walking. I suspect that as my walking pace increases, I will be able to meet my goal of 13 min miles for the CDC. Anyway, I am feeling so much better about my training and I am really happy about switching to this walk/run plan.

In other news, my MIL is in town and I suspect I'll be doing some extra training this weekend in order to get some away from her. At least I won't be looking for motivation to do my LR this weekend!

Hi WISH Team,

I worked some tonight so nothing training-wise is going to happen for me. I think I am in advanced taper mode.

Meghan, good for you to get that LR in with eagerness. Good luck with that this weekend. I WISH you can drage it out and really enjoy the moment!

We need a Sonic here.

SilverE, good to hear your recovery is going steady.

Lynne, don't tangle with the moose! Glad you stopped by. Too bad the order was less than expected. Oh well, I'll have mine. Thanks for that! WISH your internship is going well.

Kristi! Great news. Glad you will be joining ToT and that DH is back to the grind.

Erica, good luck at work tonight. Glad the training went better tonight.

Dave, :grouphug: Sending all the PD, positive energy and prayers your way. WISH you get through this and become stronger as a family.

Vic, thanks for that article. It was an interesting read. I've been meaning to say, that labbycam is such fun to watch. The babes are really getting big.

lustergirl, I think with what you've got going now, you would do well in a half in '08.

That's it, for now. I'm going through the Cavs, SA game anxiety now.

Wonderful news!!!!!:cheer2:

That means Erica and I will get the honor of meeting you at the ToT.

Dave:hippie:

OK Dave, I have gotten up early.......Hope date night went well last night.
Nah, JK about blaming you for me getting up...I always get up early on Friday to do my LR...but today I am doing a LB...(Long Bike)....Heading out , on the bike around 0600, going to meeet Bree at 0630, ride a little with her, then finish up.
Not going to post how far yet b/c I may wimp out and not do the total mileage....;)
LATER!

What does CDC stand for? (Other than the Center for Disease Control). I'm assuming they are not the latest charity organization you are running for. Ha ha.

Dave - I wish I had advice for you right now! Chad & I have the family-time problems, but they are work related & unavoidable. :sad1: I hope date night went well.

Leana - thanks for sharing that story about your mom! And I love that she is going to be able to join us all the way from Indonesia again. As for WDW resorts...they are all great. I will not EVER stay at GF again though (long story on how they ruined our wedding night) & I hated the trek down the never-ending hallway at VWL. Other than that - it's Disney! They are all fabulous!

Megan - sorry your cousin is being a butthead. Shoot, I'd go alone if I had to! ;) Boston is outrageously expensive. I am alot older than you and married, and we can't afford to live near Boston. Not that I would want to actually. So, we both commute 40 miles each way from southern NH.

Judy - &:wizard: for your foot. I personally would get the surgery asap and be ready to go this fall. But that is me - very impatient. ;) Could you keep up your cardio endurance by biking or using the eliptical with that boot thing on?

Helen
- glad to see you back!

lustergirl - :welcome:
Just start that walkin' and it will come!
"Keep on swimming..."

I didn't get any training in yesterday (surprising, huh? ) since we were all preoccupied with Chad's new job and telling everyone, etc. I know I should be happy about the new job and all, but I can't help being sad about it. I am really going to miss seeing Chad all the time now that we are going back to being ships passing in the night (or day).

It is doubtful I will get any training in today too. I have a crop until midnight tonight, and I have to nap if I have any hope of lasting that long!

Have a great day y'all. I woke up in a blah mood so I'm saying off the board till I feel more upbeat.

Dave
