Wk of Jan. 20th-- WISH Walking/Running Club

Welcome Amanda and Becky from a fellow newbie!

Becky good luck with the new job! What a perfect place to be working as you train!

Amanda, I am brand new to this too and people here are really encouraging!

I am using our elliptical glider and pushed myself to 3.5 miles tonight. I was feeling it in my thighs but was happy I did it.

I bet you guys will be glad when I go back to work tomorrow so I'm not posting 16 times a day ;)

Anyway, since we've had a number of new folks join us, I just wanted to post this 100 tips for Beginning runners from completerunning.com. Great site!

100 Beginner Running Tips

Welcome home, Lily!

Dumb question of the week: What's a balaclava and does Tom Coughlin need one right now?

Hey all!

First off, a great big CONGRATULATIONS to all who completed the events last weekend! Way to go!! :thumbsup2 I'm hoping to find some time to read everyone's race reports sometime soon.

While y'all were at WDW, my husband and I were at the hospital. Look what they let us bring home with us last Sunday:

Sean Michael was born on Friday morning, 1/11/08. He's our firstborn, and we're so excited to have him here! :cloud9:

OH MY GOODNESS YOU GUYS ARE CHATTY!!!!

I go to church and clean the house for the day and I can't even begin to catch up, I am going to just try to throw a few out there.

First of all:

TXAng AWWWWWWWWWWW!!! SO CUTE!!!!! CONGRATULATIONS
Stephanie Thanks for sharing what you heard this morning. I really need to hear that right now. I know I have said this over and over but I CAN NOT BELIEVE how much I miss running and I have been scared lately that I won't get it back. But I have never been good with patience and delayed gratification, sticking things out for the long haul... that kind of stuff But this whole situation has been teaching me a lot of hard lessons. OK enough. Still mad that you won't be at MINNIE :sad2:
Scott DH is actually going to run MINNIE with me, which really surprised me. There were some guys out there I don't think it's that big of a deal.
Mel Love the idea of the shirts. Would love to have it in time for MINNIE cause it will be warm :scared1:
Allyson Good job on the workout :thumbsup2 I HATE the elliptical so you did good in my book
Lily Welcome home!!

OK I'm really sorry that's all I have time for now. No training today unless you count 7 hours of cleaning house -- LITERALLY

Who ever said it was a good idea to get a big house with lots of tile and glass doors :confused3

:welcome: to the world Sean Michael

CONGRATULATIONS Mommy and Daddy!!

Dumb question of the week: What's a balaclava and does Tom Coughlin need one right now?

Something that covers your face. And YES....he's going to lose his cheeks if he doesn't cover 'em up. Shiny skin in sub zero temps is a BAD thing!!! :scared1:

Today was my first day back training since the marathon. Erin convinced me to go to the gym with her. I did 30 min on the elliptical. Before going to the gym we got to cross train by shoveling for a half hour. We didn't get near the snow our neighbors to the north got. Winter isn't over yet so we should not get too excited.

Welcome all new people. This is a great group.

Thank you to all the WISHers who waited at the finish line and who cheered me on during the marathon last Sunday. I wasn't sure I was going to make it. A special thanks to Lynne - my walking partner and Erin - my scream teamer. I appreciated them both being at the finish line waiting for me.

Great job to everyone who has resumed their training.

Hi All,

Seems my DW has posted enough today for the both of us :goodvibes , so mine will be short!

Congrats to everyone on getting back into training, even if it's just walking again. My legs were cursing me out for some of my 7-mile run today, but it felt so good to be back into it again. I did a little speed work, but gave it up - I don't think I'm quite ready this week. I will try it during my short runs. I'm looking to PR at the Sarasota Half in March, so I'm ready for a 2:30 and some BLING!!!:cheer2:

TxAng, you have a beautiful little one; kinda makes my manly heart flutter. Congrats!

So Erin, you're training this time? How about doing the FULL at WDW in 2009? You rock as a pace buddy.

By the way, did I tell y'all that I got the Fairy Godmother in MK during my Half to do the Gator Chomp (UF)? Yeah, it was sweet.

So I am tired of being a Network Manager, wanna switch careers, been doing I.T. for 12 years, blah. DW things I should work at the local running store giving running advice & stuff. But I think she mainly wants the employee discounts  .....

Take Care, all....

- Jeff

I love mine - they have them at Kohls pretty reasonably priced!!

Mine is more hoodish, and they have all these strings that you pull tight as necessary - so sometimes you can use it just on your neck, or just as a hood, depending on how tight you pull those string thingys

DH - Bobby is doing 1/2 Sarasota. Anyone else on here doing it maybe we should have mini wish meet Friday or Saturday to carb load that weekend :) \

Awww Ang, you brought home a new WISH Team member! What a beautiful guy. Congratulations! Enjoy every moment with him.

Mel, I love that you are enjoying your time relaxing with us!

Jeff, I think those perks at the running store are definitely a great reason for changing jobs!

THAT's what I need! My poor chin gets so cold!

And congratulations TXAng on your new little one! Beautiful!

Congratulations TXang.. He is ADORABLE!!!!! :)

With all the new wish babies we might have to add some infant WISH gear to the next order! ;)

Hey guys - we're back in Sydney (and it's raining -aggggghhh). Journey home was trying - we did the whole thing in 'one' day - 3 flights, 20 hours in the air, 8 hours at airports - never again! But I did answer one of the marathon weekend questions en route- who would pay $250 for a Disney medal on ebay. Answer: Someone who gets to the end of her flight and finds all four of her bags have gone missing and so no longer has one!!!! Thankfully, that wasn't quite me - something had made me pull my medals out of the luggage and carry them in my hand baggage or I think I would have been hysterical when the bags didn't turn up -Tim commented to the guy on lost luggage about the fact that I was only calm as I had my medals and they made me get them out and show them around!!! thankfully luggage was reunited with us this morning so i don't have to beg Disney for a spare Goofy beanie toy.

in other news, I don't think my toenail is going to survive the day! It was blistered at the end of the half, and you don't even want to know what happened to it after the full - not helped by some guy stepping on my heel and pulling my shoe off around mile 18 which tore it slightly off too - how I didn't fall I don't know - and he didn't even apologise just stared straight ahead and kept power walking. I saw him at AK a couple of days later and was so desperate to go and stamp on his foot!!! Anyway, I plastered it all up - and I just removed the plaster. Safe to say, I'm going to the podiatrist at 3pm!!!

So, enough of my rambling - I just wanted to say thanks to all teh screamers but HUGE thanks to Anne and the orange slicers - omg, I was so hungry at that point, when I saw Anne waving that bag I could have kissed her!!! I wasn't going to wear my shirt for the full as the low sleeves my arms rub against my crop top but after all the support in the half I had to and was so glad I did, it was awesome -and does anyone else find it strangely flattering, I look tall and thin in all my asi photos (and I'm no thinner than any other race I've ever done and I definitely haven't grown past 5ft4) and the colour makes you look really tanned!

Also - is it wrong that I'm considering running Disneyland now they're bribing us with a special medal! Helen

Helen - Your poor toe!! I had a lot of fun yoyo-ing with you during the full! I am so glad you kept your medals with you - I would have been so upset if they got lost.

TXAng - Congratulations!! I love the smile!!

Becky

TXAng-- Congratulations!

Mel- Does turning the can upside down and pressing the nozzle count as whipping the cream? :rolleyes1

Amy- I had a mishap on some ice in '04--it took 4 months to rehab the sprained/strained shoulder, neck, and my arch-enemy: trapezius. It was worker's comp, so the dr would only let the rehab my back to the middle of my spine. I took up pilates and yoga to make up the difference. The first time I took a pilates class, I remember lying on the floor thinking, hey, this is way too easy. This won't work. That night, I couldn't roll over in bed my abs were so sore! I don't keep up with it like I should, but my VO2 max was an entire liter larger when i did yoga and pilates five days a week. My asthma dr was so impressed that I had "studied" for my lung volume test! I'm glad it makes a good counterbalance to the walking. I may be less squishy by summer yet!

And I was watching the game tonight asking why Coughlin wasn't wearing a balaclava. My brother said it was because he had to speak, but I would have cut a slit to talk through myself. We were guessing some of those guys have serious frostbite!

Hey Becky, what time did you do? I was so expecting you to come up behind me in the finish chute so we could have a joint Wish finish? I just snuck in under 6 hours (5.59 and 2 secs I think).
