MelR- Buy a new helmet! NOW! Okay, now that I've got your attention I'll explain why. The rule is one crash and replace the helmet. The actual noggin saving benefits come from the styrofoam and not the light plastic shell and that can become damaged without being visibly damaged. Since yours is visibly damaged, you should assume that the helmet is actually in worse shape that can be seen. I replace my main helmet every 2-3 years even if it hasn't been crashed because copious sweat breaks down the styrofoam too.

Sunny- 1 mile running=3 miles biking give or take. For the swogging, I would use a time conversion. BTW, swogging isn't about covering distance but about making the motions. You ought to look into the waterproof cases and headphones for the ipods. www.swimoutlet.com has a good selection. I only suggest this because of the boredom threshold but I think mine must be pretty low because I treadmill ran exactly once last winter post-marathon and only did 2 pre-marathon.

I did 5 miles in 44 minutes today and still need to ride. It's taper time for Ironman Wisconsin with the longest "workout" in the next 9 days being the sprint distance race I'm doing Saturday. Hopefully Ernesto will hold off until Saturday afternoon or exactly half of my triathlons this year will have been in the rain. Grrr.

Happy training everyone :sunny: :sunny: :sunny:
Bill and Lynnda- sorry for your loss

Lynn - that is so funny. I noticed that you said main helmet. I never thought about having more than one. that is a good idea anyway. I think I'm going to have to use the boy's in the mean time. (i have a little head) Although, he is very passionate about his possesions, so he would not like the whole stinking it up w/ sweat aspect.

Kristi-you were cruisin' girl! I have been counting wogging as moderate so I can be conservative.

I am lovin this Core program!!!!! I lost 4 lbs this week :cool1: :woohoo:

Sometimes I really don't feel as though I am that fast a walker when I am out there - my numbers suprise me sometimes.

I told you Core works! You just have to be able to live on that restricted food list. I am back to Core religiously this week to undo all the damage I did last week.

Princessmomma
- Core is one of two plans you can follow on Weight Watchers. Flex is the plan most people do with counting points for all your foods. Core is relatively new. Basically you can eat all you want until you are satisfied of a certain list of "safe" foods.

Mel - I was going to comment along the same lines as Lynne. I thought I heard somewhere that once you have an accident with a helmet it should be replaced no matter what. Kind of like a kid's car seat. Take care of that head! You bike doesn't seem to like you very much. If you can wear a kid's helmet, the POC ones at Target are on clearance now! :rotfl:

That's great Tiff, could you give me the a brief description of Core?
Core is AWESOME! I love it b/c I can eat as much as I want! I am OK with the restricted food plan b/c for me it is the amount of food. I have lost a TON of weight on it..I have also been really strick until tonight....see below!

Tiff - A big congrats on your lost weight! :thumbsup2

Jen - LOVE the pics. What a beautiful family you have.

Sunny - You get 3 miles tomorrow on my LR! :goodvibes

.....OK..OK...I did just eat like 7 pc of pizza and ice cream and wings....and then a desert.... popcorn:: :drinking1 :crazy2: :scared:  :faint: I could not find the throw up smilies! :confused3 I haven't eaten like that in FOREVER! I will have to do 10 miles extra for that...yea right!
Gotta get the girls to bed...later!

I did 5 miles tonight in 69:40. I think that is overall pace of 13:56. Thank God! I think I may be back on track. Now, If I can sustain the pace for 13.1 I'll be so grateful!

Bill and Lynda - Sorry for you loss!

MelR - Glad you weren't hurt. And I agree with the others - Get a new helmet!

Lily - Sending :wizard: for you and DH!

Jen - Such a cute pciture. Your girls are adorable!

Sunny - So sorry you're not getting a better answer. It's so frustrating when you see multiple Dr.'s and they can't seem to agree on a diagnosis. The minister at my church says it's all guesswork - that's why they call it a (medical) "practice". I do hope you get a definitive answer and some relief soon.

Judy - Great job on the intervals. 4:15??? In the AM?? You go Judy! :worship:

Well, Labor Day weekend is upon us. A shade over 2 weeks until DL 1/2. I'm getting a little nervous. My training always starts out good and then fizzles in the latter stages before the race. I have to figure out a way to not let outside influences (work, family, etc) distract me from my training routine. Yeah, right!

Wish me luck for Tuesday. I'm going back to school (after being out for 16 years). I'm taking classes to try to become a sign language interpreter. It'll take awhile, since I can only take 1-2 classes per semester (work schedule won't allow for more), but at least I can ease my way back into higher learning! :)

Nooooooooooooo not another purchase for this free sport :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: (But thanks for the tip, it is quite a long time to be listening to the splashes echo off the walls).

If I go by time then I had a serious LR today :rotfl: It reminded me of those dreams where someone is chasing you and you try to run but nothing happens. I'm psyched, though, I've had a nearly pain free day. I hope it's not coincidental. I think I might have found my perfect therapy :goodvibes

Jen-- Love the pics! Your wanna be running girls are beautiful. Get 'em while they're young ;)

Kristi-- I don't even go to the Burlington Mall and its right around the corner.

All this talk of Core has me convicted again. I must do core. I know its the best program for me.

Who was asking about core details? I have details on my site under "random thoughts" labeled "going core". It may be outdated. I hear they have made some changes.

Terri-- good luck on Tuesday :wizard: :cheer2: You'll do great. And you'll be great at DL, too, I just know it :goodvibes

Sunny

Terri- Cool w/the signlanguage. I used to church interpret, which occasionally let to situations (basically free jobs) for which I was not qualified. I took the ethics exam, but I am certaintly not good enough to certify to interpret. I found that i was much better at signing than comprehension, so basically my conversation skills stunk!!!!! Good luck w/ your classes. That is just great!!

My SIL is a sign language interpreter and she loves it! GOOD LUCK!!!

Sunny -- :wizard: For finding somehting that actually works. Hopefully your doctors can actually agree on something soon.

Lynn -- Good to see you again. Good luck with the Ironman coming up. We hope you get the times that you are looking for.

Mel -- Good luck with your bronco. It sounds like it has somehow claimed the alpha-dog status and is enjoying it.

Kristi -- I would split it between high and moderate. The time I spent running would count as high and the time walking would be counted as moderate.

Cam -- Good job on the pace, you shouldn't have any problems for the half.

I went 4.2 miles last night at an overall pace of 11:03. It felt good and didn't have any pain afterwards. I think I have one more long run before DL.

We survived Ernesto as it came through. The "eye" actually passed over our house but since it wasn't well defined, it wasn't any different than the rest of the day. We just got rain like any other Florida summer day.

Thanks again for all the prayers, pixie dust, and hugs. It has meant alot to us during this time.

Bill

Wow I love hearing all these great times and these 5 mile runs! Everyone seems to be getting in gear!

I ran on a treadmill yesterday. 5.5 miles in 50 minutes. I felt great after the first 2 miles.

I just noticed that it now takes 2 milesinto the run for me to get feeling strong . It used to only take one mile. Does that mean that pretty soon I will have to sludge through 3 or 4 miles before I start enjoying the run? Yikes.

By the way, jelly beans are NOT a good prerun fuel.

:cool1:  :cheer2: I just have to report that I lost 7 pounds in the month of August! As many of you know my family is having a weight loss challenge, which ends June 07, and I'm neck in neck with my one sister. Thanks for all the motivation team! :cheer2: :woohoo: :yay:

Cam - Awesome time!!!! WTG!

MelR - I used to love watching the interpreter in church! Helped me pay attention. :rolleyes1 That i sso great that you did that!

Terr - Good luck with school. That is great that you want to do that!

Sunny - :wizard:For many mroe pain free days!

Lynne - :wizard: Dust for a rai-free tri!!!

Bill - Glad Ernesto wasn't to hard on you!

Cruella - In teh winter, especially, it takes me 3 2 to 3 miles to get into my groove too. After that, I was on auto pilot.

Tiff - Congrats on core working!

Christa - Yikes! I think sometimes those work outs just catch up with us! Just don't make it a habit. ;)

Kristi - I am gla dyou know when not to push your body! Any way you can switch you runs on shot days?

I di my 40 min last night. I think dh is insulted because I tend to do better on my own. I was actually thinking that once a month I shou ddo that. I don't want to do it all the time, but every now and then to listen to my tunes and not worry about holding someone else back is nice. I did 3.79, which was a 10:34 pace. Wed was 10:36 and I thought that was good for a weekday. I was thrilled that my legs did so well on a b2b again. Maybe I did not lose quite as much as I thought. I know those were killer last year!

Does help that the weather's a little cooler.

OK, veryone have a grat and safe weekend! We head north today for our annual Macinac Bridge Walk/family camping weekend. We'll replace Monday's run witrh a 5 to 6 mile walk, but will do tomorrow's 6 mile LR. We have anew course this year, though, and are really trying to avoid illegally crossing I-75.

Good morning everyone! I'm heading to the running store after work today to get some new shoes. :cheer2:  I hope they give me something cute!! :cutie: I haven't run since Wednesday, I attempted my 40 minutes on the treadmill, made it about a mile before I had to throw in the towel. It's just not worth doing damage to my legs and back (I have pain shooting up from the bottom of my feet, up my legs and into my back), just to say that I got my run in, kwim? My plan is to get my shoes tonight, do 40 minutes tomorrow and then my 6 miles on Sunday.

Sunny--I thought of you last night when I was reading the new Runners World. There was a blurb in there about aqua running and how great it is for your body, especially during the taper because there is no impact on your body. I'm glad you found something that works, I know you will see the benefits of it. Stephen had to do pool running last summer/early fall when he had runner's knee, when he started running again, he was actually stronger, faster, and had more endurance. :wizard: :wizard: that your doctors get their act together!!! Oh, and I commit to praying for you for 1 mile when I run. So between Christa and I, you have 3 miles.

Melissa--Be careful!!!!!! What did you do to the Bronco to make her hate you so much?? ;) By the way, I think you'll look hot in a Pirates helmet. :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Jen--What a beautiful family!!!!

Terri--Good luck on Tuesday! How exciting for you! I will definitely keep you in my thoughts while you are in school.

Lynn--Good to see you again!!! Good luck with your tri! How do you do it all?? Thanks for the info on the helmet, I don't ride, but Stephen does. I'm going to ask him if he got a new helmet after his last bike wreck.

Lily-- :wizard: :wizard: for you and DH!!!!

Tiff--Woo hoo on your 4 lbs!!!! That is awesome! Are you enjoying an empty house with both boys in school?

Cam--It sounds like your back! Great job on your 5 miles!

Kristi--You know, every time I type your name, I type Krista and then I have to backspace and correct! Anyway, great job on your 5 miles. You know, if you feel better walking and you can keep the pace up, then just walk. No one says you HAVE to run. Do whatever works for you.

Bill--Glad you guys survived Ernesto. We are feeling the effects here, but no one is complaining because we haven't had rain in weeks. Continued :grouphug: for you and Lynnda.

Alright, I better get to work. I'll be back later and I'll definitely be back after I get my new shoes.

I survived, I survived, I survived, I survived, I survived, I survived

6 MBA classes down 7 MBA classes to go :cool1:

Sunny - If you want to read my project I can email it to you but I'd read it late at night if u can't sleep cause it is a snore :rolleyes1 However the survey results were interesting and showed high correlation between the location (urban) one lives and the alternative treatment options provided.

Judy - You're such a sweetie!

My newest class started yesterday (no rest for the wicked) but I am going to take a hard look at my schedule and find a way to just get out there.

My best to everyone  :grouphug:

Sunny - I was so frustrated reading your report, I can't imagine how you felt.

Lily - I hope you husband gets some answers soon.

I did my last long walk yesterday - 18kms. Which is just over 11 miles. It took me 3 hours, that works out to 16.06 miles per minute. That's too slow for the DL half.

I am a little concerned about being swept. Earlier this year I was maintaining 14 1/2 minutes per mile. I am hoping the crowd and excitement will give me an extra 30 seconds or so.

Did 3 dreadmill miles w/ a pretty good avg. pace for me. It was of course interrupted by several crises including spilled mixed berry applesauce (twice) and carpet burn from a jumping up the stairs experiment. I am so ready for preschool to start. Me and the boy are sick of eyeballing each other all day/every day!!

I finally decided to look to see when i need to start training. I am to start the week of or after my big adv. race in 3 weeks. :thumbsup2

I got my bumper out of bed this morning, 10 minutes earlier even, and did 35 minutes on the treadmill. I wish I could run outside, but it is pitch black out. And if I wait until evening, I run out of time and just don't do it. So I guess it is about getting in the steps. Tomorrow I hope to do a longer run outside. I bought a Powergel to try, I hope it doesn't make me gag. The packets are bigger than I thought they would be. I was thinking it would be maybe a tablespoon, but there are like 2 tablespoons. That is a lot of gunk to swallow if it is horrible.

TO ALL DISNEYLAND 1/2 RUNNERS... Here are some pictures of DL as of last week. Most of my pics have my girls in them, so just ignore the cute little princesses if necessary!!!! Enjoy.

This pic has a funny story... in case you didn't know, the Winnie the Pooh ride is in the old County Bears theatre. Well they left he wall mounts. I wanted a pic so bad, but got stuck in the last seat of the car and the back is so high that it is hard to see over. This is my attempt at a funny pic from the Pooh ride. When you leave the Woozles area, they are hanging directly behind the door. Crane your neck to see if you go on it!!
