Wk of Aug 27--2007 WISH Walking/Running Club

yay i'm so glad i made myself run! got in 4 miles. i felt so good. granted i took about 2 days off... whoops. but now i'm back on track. just need to get myself a watch so i have a better idea of what i'm running :rotfl2:

Just wanted to touch base with you guys. Friday & Saturday were rest days so that I could do a 10k race today (since I know of no 10ks around here, it would be 6.2 alone for me). Anywho, Chad was working 5am-11pm today. So, with no one to watch Zack and the pouring rain, I decided to do it tomorrow. Monday are my stretch & strengthen days and honsetly, I never do the Monday workout. I have no idea why. So, tomorrow I will wog!

I also spent all last night and the majority of today listing things on eBay. I finally sat down and calculated weeks until Disneyland and realized this was my last week to start listings things for money for DL! YIKES! Chad & I also got alot of confirmation from many sources that the tv station that I work at is most likely going to buy his tv station. So, probably not good news on Chad's future employment. Which also made me panic more about $$$ for DL! (hence the crazy ebay-listing this weekend) Nevermind our overall financial future... :sad2:

I digress, but I hereby pledge to get back on the woggin' wagon tomorrow! :cool1:

I was supposed to do 8 miles yesterday. I accomplished 7.63 miles of it. At about mile 3, I developed a hot spot on the bottom of my foot. It turned into a blister along with getting one on the inside of my little toe. I did the walk in 2 hr 12 min. Need to keep plugging away to finish in time at the ATM.

Lynne put blister stuff on the bottom of my foot so we could go to the fair. Erin was home for the weekend and she wanted to go. We spent 3 hours at the fair with most of it on our feet.

Everyone is doing great. Keep up the good work and keep training.

Well I put the steps in, but that is about all I can say for my 10 miler. It was great until about mile 6 was maintaining around 15 or a little less pace (which was my goal for this LR) then it was like all the energy was being sucked out of me. At mile 8 avg pace 15:05. The only way I could finish was to slow way down. I was drinking plenty of water/ade & eating so I dont know what the problem was. The last 2 miles were a shameful 17:31 pace :guilty: I was so upset. I am 50 lbs lighter than last year & have been training for a year now and have done this mileage several times. I should be able to do 10 miles at 15 pace without any issues & enjoy it. What was even more discouraging is I know that there is no way I could have gone 3 more miles. What is up with that?! DH thinks its the heat, which may be partly it but I have a hard time believing thats all of it. Sorry for the long rant but I had to vent! :furious:

Kathy-good luck with that blister. Those are nasty little devils! I'm sure you had a great time with your girls (even though I'm sure you would have liked to spent more of it sitting down)

Sara-glad you're dong good. Dont push too hard so you can fully recover!

Tracey-I have the Garmin 201 & love it. It has all of what I need. I wouldnt use all the other features of the higher end ones.

Chris-that is what we call the "aliens" getting us. I never would have thought I would do a 5k much less multiple 1/2 marathons. Most of us on this board have been taken over by them :teeth:

Krista-Great job on your 5k :woohoo:

Heather-good job getting out there, you have 2 weeks to get all better girlfriend. We have some fun to be had, no time for colds :goodvibes

Alright, where is Judy? 2 days on core & I'm really liking it!

Have a great week everyone!

Tiff, first of all, you lost 50 lbs since last year???

That is so awesome! You go girl, I had no idea.

Secondly, you just did 10 miles yesterday, which is a great accomplishment. Bad training walks, wogs, or runs happen to everyone, could be for a number of reasons. Heat was probably the culprit yesterday. You may need to drink a little more, who knows, maybe your body was just off that day. You got it in, that's what matters. Your next one will be better! :yay:

Off to the gym for some cross training today. The kids started school on Friday and now I have this new found freedom. I hope to get more cross training in this Fall because it was non-existant this summer.

Have a great day.

Great job to all on our LRs this weekend. PD to Mel that Ernesto does not hit FL! :wizard: :wizard: :wizard:

For all those training for DL, I too am starting to panic about pacing and questioning whether I will be able to do this. But remember, this is absolutely normal for this point in our training! Remember that panic, self-doubt, and sheer excitement are part of the build-up to any big race. We all went through this last December working up to the WDW 1/2 or full. We now have taper madness to look forward to. :rotfl: We can do this! And we will do this! And the best part (other than the castle medal) is that we will do this together! :grouphug:

Today is a rest day for me. Everyone keep getting those steps in!

everyone trains so well! i think i've found posting here to be a really good thing for me. i know i said before toward the end of the last week i got kind of lazy with my running and it made me feel so guilty to come here and see everyone else being so good and doing what they're supposed to be. between that and the giant poster of my training on the wall i'm sure to train a lot better than i did last year. which i need because i was really stupid last year. :lmao:

so thank you all for making me feel like a slacker so that i keep my butt in gear!

I'm going crazy!!!!! The boys last summer play date (mom's day out) was Aug 3 and he doesn't start preschool until 9/5!!!!! I know i am the queen of excersise w/ boy in tow, but i just haven't been in the swing of it!! I feel like i have done nothing in the last few days!! It is raining here today and the boy would not be cool w/ biking or kayaking in the rain!! (i only know this b/c i've been looser enough to try it!) I did the 1/2 IM last sunday, and i did ride a really hard trail on the single speed on tues. but that is pretty much it!! I rode w/ my dad and boy on thurs, but it was a very slow ride so i can't really even count it. I'm going to try to do treadmill today, but the satellite is out and i have no idea why!! the boy is not going to entertain himself while i run!! maybe a movie on the laptop will buy me a few miles!!! :joker: :joker: :joker: :joker: (that is my best going crazy smile)

HELP!!! You can tell I am a bit of a scatter brain!! I made up a calendar for my training schedule, and I just realized that I messed up pretty big. Here's the schedule I have written down....

Sep 9: 10 miles
Sep 16: 11 miles
Sep 23: 12 miles
Sep 30: 6 miles
Oct 7: 14 miles
Oct 14: 7 miles
Oct 21: 18 miles

Anyone notice the problem there? Somehow I missed a 15-16 mile run and an easy run, and my whole schedule now is way messed up. Here is what I was thinking of doing....

Sep 2: 10 miles
Sep 9: 12 miles
Sep 16: 6
Sep 23: 14 miles
Sep 30: 7
Oct 7: 16 miles
Oct 14: 7
Oct 21: 18 miles

What do you guys think? Does that seem workable? Any info or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Dana

Dana- you could probably ditch one of the step back weeks and put 2 LR together. (like maybe 14 and 15) then a step back - I just use a schedule made out for me, b/c i could never figure it out on my own.

Forget my last whiney post!! They boy wanted to watch spykids 3d, so I got to do 6 miles on the TM. The rain has stopped and we may get to go kayaking. The 6 is good enough for me today though, i feel much better! I was just going to do 3 and then he was still content w/ the movie, so I just kept going until he came to get me!!! :cool1:

Lynn - I PM'd you about traveling by plane w/ bike. Any advice would really help!!

Hello everyone -

Just a quick post here to mostly say thanks for all your support and kind words last week. We went to Newport, Rhode Island for the weekend and I bought myself a sports bra and training capris, two things I really needed. They gave me a bit of a boost (No pun intended!). I mean, I feel better since now, if nothing else, at least I look the part.

Anyway, I know I have a PM, Anne, I think it's from you but thanks to Service Pack 2 I can't look at it until they rebuild my machine tomorrow. It's making me nutso to know it's there but not to be able to read it. Grrr. Plus I still can't use smilies. Thanks Microsoft! (Good thing I work at IBM and not MS!)

See that's what I was doing, I was using the Jeff Galloway - Run Injury Free training schedule, but for some reason when I transferred the schedule into my calendar I missed those weeks and messed it all up. I ran 8 miles on Saturday and I was planning on running 9 this Saturday, but I am thinking about running 10 instead, and then 12 next Saturday to get me back on track.

Dana

Well I am back from the great [read as "miserably hot"] state of Texas and summer camp. I go thru my 20 miler this summer (MFM plan), but then my schedule was too hectic and HOT to get in running. So I did lots of cross training (generally horse-related). I just finished week one of training and I am soooo glad to be back online!

Cecilia It will be my first marathon also! I got to do the 5K last year at Disney but I'm soooo excited about the Goofy! Can't wait to see everyone there!

Heather Get well soon. pixiedust: If you go really early morning or evening then it's not quite so humid or hot. 4.4 miles is better than none!

Ashley I run four days a week and cross train two other days. My garmin automatically logs the runs so I have a record of them.

Paul What a great race calender! You can never have too much Disney!

Krista Congrats on the PR! I wish I could get such even splits.

Tracey I have a Garmin 301 and I love it! I was going to get the 201 but it doesn't have the heart rate monitor so I switched up. It does just about everything except run for you!

Sara Well I'm glad that you could donate blood *shudders* that's one thing that I just can't do (shots dont bother me too too much but getting blood taken out makes me wanna faint).

Bill Wow! That's an amazing run! I can run that speed for short blips--but for 8 miles Wow!

Mel Good luck with Ernesto. Hopefully he will just swing out of the Gulf or just die where he is. I wouldn't mind having a hurricane party (aka no school!!) but we couldnt really deal with that right now.

Kathy Take care of those poor tootsies--you need those puppies! pixiedust:

Tiffany Sometimes you have super awesome days....and sometimes you dont. But dont worry over it too much--just keep running!

Melissa Yay! for getting in the 6 miles. See? just one more reason you love Disney!

Gotta go to my first class!

Greetings Team: Wow, I can't say good morning since it's 1:30pm. I had a rest day yesterday. This morning my alarm rang at 5:00am, and I could not get out of bed at all. So I slept until my regular 6:00am wakeup time and got the day going, but I felt soooooo tired this morning.

Anyhow, I'm doing an experiment in the lab today where I have a 90 minute incubation. So I said, I can go downstairs to the gym and do my 40 min run on the treadmill (I had my clothes with me). So I did. I did 40 min on the treadmill including a 5 min warm up and 5 min cool down, but in between I did 30 solid minutes running at 6.0mph (10mpm). I felt pretty good, and it really woke me up. I feel a lot better now that I got my run in.

Hi all! It sounds like training is going well - such an inspiration (and kick in the pants) to see all your training! :D

My first race is coming up in about 10 days - I am getting major butterflies! Since it is a tri, I feel like I need to run around and do more more more of three different things but I am being good and following my program. ;)

I did get new running shoes, and I have run in them two times, one 4 mile and one 5 mile run. Both times, my left foot has hurt above the arch near the end and after. This didn't happen with my old cheapo shoes. There is a return policy where I bought the shoes if they don't work - my question is - is this a bad thing? I don't like to cause problems and I hate to return them, but these were both short runs and I don't want to hurt myself. I am planning to just wear my old ones for the tri.

I found out there is a marathon in my city in October and I signed up for the half. That will be good for me, I think.

I rode my bike for the first time with my special pedals and shoes last night- woo hoo! I am going to go try the race route tomorrow, I want to know how bad the hills are.

I'm planning on half or full next year at WDW so if you run it again will meet there.
Rich, if you mean 2007 as "next year" best register NOW! Full marathon is only thing left open and it is almost filled too. Otherwise you have a couple of months for 2008 regisration. So you run the neighborhood. That is something I don't enjoy much.

Garmin for me = Forerunner 201. Does all I need. Have my own HR monitor Polar (which btw Ihave not used this training year much at all.) I love the freedom the Garmin provides and cannot imagine ever giving up that toy!

Claire, did I read that correctly? Your first class is in the p.m.! Wow! Great that you are back in things.

Dana, I think what you've figured in your last work sound like a good approach. Don't fret.

Kathy, hope the foot problems go away soon.

Tiff, don't let it get you down about that stonker. I had a horrible one last year and really crawled back 24 minutes last mile when I did my first ever longer that 1/2 marathon mileage. I thought I would NEVER be able to go on. Next week was better, not pretty, but better. Bottom line for me, I kept trying to get the steps in at the minimum pace required for those LRs and kept up with my weekly trainig as best as my old body would allow. It went ok and I'm sending PD to you that it will be better for you too!
pixiedust:
Judy, Yay! for the clothes. It will be just the thing you need! All that stuff makes ya run faster, jump higher and do better! You go!

MelR, great that The Boy was amused so you could get in your steps. He is so good.

sugaswim, (forgive my brain I can't remember your name and am too lazy to go to page 1 and look) Anyway...I am so glad that you are finding that we inspire you to get out there. Now...go on! Keep doing it! :teeth:

Got a very busy evening, will have to TM when I get home LATE. Sigh.

Have a great training day all.

Dana - I think your plan sounds really on track!

Kevin - I did intervals today and i really liked them. When you walk, what is your walking pace? Do you do a really fast walk or do you just take it easy?

I have a general question about intervals. How fast should the walking portion be? The reason I ask is that in Chicago DH and I were walking at 16mpm pace or a little bit faster (at least until my blisters got really bad). There was a couple doing intervals - they'd pass us on their jogging portion, but their walking pace was slower than 16mpm and we'd pass them. Then they'd jog by, and then we'd pass them when they walked. I have to say it was a little annoying because my feet were hurting and we'd have to manuever past them when they walked, but got passed when they jogged. Even with my blisters we finished ahead of them. I've been thinking about adding some intervals for the full and wondered how they should work.

:lmao: Judy, I love your posts!

Ok, quickie post - catch up tomorrow, I promise!

I just finished my mock 10k that I was supposed to do yeterday & I am so excited! :woohoo: First the rundown:
12:28
12:48
11:01 :confused3 :yay:
11:47
12:17
11:01 again :confused3 but :yay:
2:12 (.2 miles)
1:13:37 Holy freakin' cow!

This time is super fast for me. Those 11:01 miles just about shocked me half to death while I was out there. The first time, I figured it was a fluke, but it happened twice. Chad did say he saw me one of the many times I passed by the house & it looked like I was running pretty fast. I did also increase to a walk 3.5 mins. / run 1.5 mins. this time & was able to keep that up for all 6.2 miles. I also had some Power Gel right before I started, then again around 40 mins. in. I guess those gels do work!
