Wk of Apr 29--WISH Walking/Running Club

Completed week 4 of 13 today! :woohoo:

Good luck again to all those racing this coming weekend! :wizard:

Christa - I'm so glad to hear that your test turned out so well! That is great to have the instant feedback.

Dave, Krista, Steve and all others doing the PIG - Have a great race this weekend.

Everyone doing minnie- Have a great weekend!!!!

We had a race this weekend, but it was canceled, so phil and i are going to mt. magazine state park to ride and climb and possibly run and swim!!

I got a couple of good workouts in this week. I rode my mt. bike for 2 hrs. on monday and then about 1/2 hr. on tues. I'm planning 3 miles on the tm today. I've gotten several walks in w/ the boy and new dog. She is not doing that well from being spayed and comming from the pound. She has kennel cough. I think she is just starting to come around. I don't have a good feel for her true personality.

just cleaning this morning!!

Good morning everyone!

Christa - glad to hear things are well.

Shan - Way to go!

MelR - Sorry to hear the pup has KC. When we adopted Dusty he had a case of heartworm and was still intact. His first few months with us were a little rough.

Christa--That is wonderful news!!!!!!!!!!! Praise God!!! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: I so agree with you that the people who zone out while running are dangerous! But they also make great entertainment, like the guy I saw at Disney around mile 15-16, singing "SexyBack" at the top of his lungs and completely off key. :lmao: :lmao: That took my mind off the marathon for a few minutes. :lmao:

Melissa--Come and do the Pig!!! :) Ah, the joys of kennel cough! Hines had that twice, the coughing sounds terrible!!!! Make sure she gets her bordatello (sp?) shot, that will help prevent kennel cough.

Good luck Minnie runners/walkers!!! and have safe travels!

Angie--Good luck tomorrow and have a wonderful day!

Holy cats! No, no, no, a thousand times no! Good grief...I can't believe they're even testing it for migraine...the risk to benefit ratio must be absurd. Here's the FDA link that includes the safety info...if you're looking at a clinical trial, this was probably in the informed consent.

http://www.fda.gov/cder/drug/infopage/thalidomide/default.htm

Even if the risk of birth defects is not an issue, there's the possibility of permanent nerve damage, blood clots (folks with migraine already have increased stroke risk), seizures, etc. Wow...who's bright idea was it to test thalidomide for migraine :sad2: They use it for leprosy and multiple myeloma, but unless this is severely, debilitating, cut off your head migraines that don't respond to anything other than decapitation, I can't imagine.

I'm not caught up with the thread yet, but had to jump in here. Listen to Mel! Having suffered a "rare and serious" side effect for the first time in my life last May, I wouldn't take any unnecessary risks.

Have you tried Zomig? I've been taking it for years and it works everytime. Of course read up on all of it's side-effects, too. Fortunatey, I don't think I've suffered any from taking it. Good luck!

Martha-- I didn't know you were also part of the BR employed clan! Did you work in the Newton store? I worked in the Lexington store (is now a Starbucks). We were so addicted to the stuff that when the owner closed the shop for two weeks in the dead of winter to do renovations we all got together and drove to Belmont to get a fix:rotfl2:

Christa - I wanted to give you a big hug! And tell you how happy I am for you that everything is ok.

As far as the ipod thing, I can kind of understand it. I didn't even take mine with me when I ran in January. Even when I do run with mine while training I only use one of the ear pieces so I can still hear with my other ear. My cell phone though will definately go with me. It goes everywhere with me in case of emergencies. I'll do what I did last year and keep it in my pack with my gu, and pray I don't get gu on my phone like "someone else here"! At least that way if I need it I know I have it.

Well today I made it out for 20 minutes, and I only stopped to walk once for about a minute. Looks like I am starting to get back into shape again. Next year will you guys get on my butt about getting lazy?! It's so much easier to stay in shape then it is to get back in it!!

Dana

melissa--enjoy Mt. Magazine. My parents stayed at the lodge a month or so ago, and my dad really enjoyed biking up there. Not much for hte kiddos, so we haven't ventured there yet

Christa--What wonderful news!!!:cool1: :cool1:

My workout was nice--really easy, just keeping loose for Sunday! This is probably my last post before leaving! Have a great weekend!

Christa - GREAT news!

Sunny - I honestly thought of you when I was reading about potential side effects. Then I thought, what if something happened and I couldn't run? That's when I decided this study was crazy! I take Imitrex or Maxalt and usually do fine with those - I only agreed to look at the study materials in hopes that they were testing a new drug. Had no idea that it would be a new use for an old drug.

Angie - Congratulations on graduation! You did it girl!

GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE RACING THIS WEEKEND!

Jackie

Well, it appears that I was too busy skipping around the house singing last night to post! So sorry. But, in 3 short hours, I'll be on my way to the airport to wing my way to WDW!!! For the Minnie!! I've done all the work, now I get the rewards.

Christa: I am so very happy for you! It must be a huge relief.

I promise to give a full report and pictures if I remember to take the camera!

{{{Hugs}}} to everyone and wish me luck!!!

Good luck to everyone doing the Minnie and Flying Pig....and to Mike, who's doing his first marathon somewhere else! Can't wait to hear all the reports

Christa: so glad to hear everything turned out fine!

I'll do what I did last year and keep it in my pack with my gu, and pray I don't get gu on my phone like "someone else here"!

Do you know at the time the "someone else" only took out insurance on her "careless" DD's phone:rolleyes: I now have insurance on both phones. The best "free" insurance is to carry your cell phone in a zip lock bag!

Christa-- great news! My mom had a lump that turned out to be a cyst, too.

Totally off-topic... I was going through the camera's flash card looking for a photo and stumbled upon this one. It has the famous Jeff Gordon flannel curtains in back (definitely "one of a kind, not sold in any stores" curtains):rotfl2:

Unfortunately, I'm starting to believe we picked "our guy" past his prime.

Too all the Flying Pigs and Minnies-- Smoke those courses:woohoo: Take TONS of photos. I can't wait to hear the raving reports:thumbsup2

And Martha, when you get back I'm holding you to the scanned photo of the Christmas BR costume.

Heck, he's won the past two races. He just may get his 5th championship this year.

Oh drat, we just happened to miss the last two races! We have yet to see him win a race. We were all excited with the Texas race when he was way out in front, then he hit the wall. Guess marathoners aren't the only one's to "hit the wall"!

Jeff has had terrible luck at Texas.

Don't forget, cup racing from Richmond tomorrow night (Fox).

The Busch Grand National race is on tonight (ESPN).

:)

Christa- So happy for you!!!

Just wanted to post that I got a Goofy entry through Marathon Tours! I'm so happy!

:cheer2: :cheer2: Adding my CHEER to the others for the upcoming weekend races!! :cheer2: :cheer2: I'm looking forward to race reports - I have so much to learn from everyone!!

I did 45 min run - - wog, I just keep plugging along! Dh said today was the perfect running day, no harsh sun, nice cool breeze - about 55 degrees - no humidity - I kept my pace very steady, I was amazed, I increased my route, not sure how far - but I finished thinking I could go further!! I didnt push myself, just plugged along, my breathing remained even... I probably could have carried a slow conversation...

Now, my question... what about this plantar fascia pain? Last night around 2am I woke up with the feeling a sharp dagger was going into my tendon - and I didnt know how to make it go away!! With a charlie horse, I know to stretch it - so I tried stretching that tendon!! ouch!!

I hope everyone has a great weekend of competition (or training, as the case may be)!

However, I do want to brag about my AWESOME walk today. It was short, but oh so fast (well 1/2 of it anyway :) ) And I kicked Esteban's (my virtual training bud) butt!

Please someone tell me if I did the math wrong
2.07 Miles in a total time of 28:55
Mile 1: 14:53
Mile 2.07: 14:02

I think that means my 2nd mile was under 14 minutes right? Like around 13:45? That is SO awesome for me! Either way, my ave for both was just at 14:00 and I've never done that before. Of course, it was only 2 miles, but still, I don't feel like dying, and I went so fast :)

Yippie. Go WISHERS!

Just wanted to drop in and say:

GOOD LUCK WISH TEAM!!!

Good Luck to all those doing the Minnie and Pig this weekend!

Mike--Good Luck in your first marathon!!

Angie-CONGRATS ON YOUR GRADUATION!!

I can't wait to hear everyone's reports from the weekend!!!
