Wk of 23 November - WISH Walking and Running Club

Duckie Hope your back feels better soon. pixiedust: My Thanksgiving dinner was okay, and the wine was too! But what is it about Pittsburgh--every single restaurant was closed--even McDonalds, and a 12:30 dinner (of moderate size) was not enough to hold us through the night. We ended up buyingpretzels at a gas station and I had pretzels and peanut butter (from the breakfast station) for dinner! Oh well, at least I had turkey. My family had "drama" on T-day when they opened up the turkey to prep for cooking and discovered that it was rotten! So much for Butterball quality! An improvised dinner occurred. This makes two T-days in a row with some kind of story to tell--it's funny after time passes, but not on the day!

No training for me--but no pigging out either, so all is good.

Hi All,
Way to many post to comment on. I can't keep up :)

Betsy, that's not fair. I had to keep my sling on 24X7 for 6 full weeks even when I slept. Had to wear a sling type thing in the shower. What gives? I also had a torn bicep so maybe that is the difference.

What a difference a week makes in training. For the last 2 weeks I struggled with my 17 and 18 mile runs. Each time I had to be stingy with the water because I wasn't near a place to replenish it. I was also a little worried because this was my 3rd LR in row without a step back week. I normally do 2 weeks then step back.

So, this time I parked my car in a different place so I wouldn't have to run so far to get back to it. I was able to get back to my car around mile 10 to shed my jacket and long pants as well as have some G2 and refill my water bottles.

I felt great the entire run. 20 miles was relatively easy, as easy as 20 miles can be. I cannot believe it especially since I struggled so much the last 2 weeks. This was one of those runs you live for Last 2 miles I ran 1 min 30 seconds faster than my earlier pace. Hope I feel this good for the marathon.

Couple of differences from my previous runs. As mentioned above, I could drink as much as I wanted because I was close enough to my car to refill. Another change is I was running 8 miles on Friday night and in less than 12 hours I was going out for my long run. This time I ran 6 on Thanksgiving morning so I didn't run again for almost 20 hours. Maybe the extra 8 hours made a difference.

Since I am going a a cruise this week I had to modify my plan so I brought my 20 miler in a week early. I am doing 13 next week, then I'm not sure, maybe 17 again and then the last LR of 20 miles on Dec 20. I can just take it easy this week with a few 5 mile runs until we get back.

Talk to you when I get back. In the meantime keep on training.....

Duckie,

Peanut could handle me removing the stitches. She was fine lying still for 2 minutes, and I removed them with no problems. Cleaned it up with peroxide, and applied Mederma for the scar.

Jeff--I love Frazz!! :goodvibes

Duane...I'm sorry! I do think the big difference is the involvement of the biceps. I was reading lots of info/advice/anecdotal experience on www.slaptear.com (yes, a forum/page started about shoulder surgery--though it now includes other ortho stuff). Usually a SLAP tear repair (of the labrum/cartilage) involves some of the biceps tendon, and people there routinely were in their sling for multiple weeks. I feel very lucky to be partly free...wearing it to sleep, still, which is a pain. That abductor pad between my forearm and body is not comfortable! My repair was confined to the supraspinatus tendon (part of the rotator cuff), and the doc shaved off a bone spur and did some minor cleanup of the cartilage. So maybe it wasn't all that complex.
PT is ...um...uncomfortable! :rotfl: But I can already see some improvement in my range of motion.

Now....make sure and do some exercise on the cruise! LRs are so much fun around the boat deck--ha! I did 8 miles on a ship once. 40 laps. Note: if you are at sea, don't depend on your gps unit to count the distance for you. think about it. I felt like such a dumb--s!
:rotfl2:
