companies give at least 2% on charges ? We have chase now, 1% only.

Chase has a card that gives 5% on certain purchases in a quarter. It's called Chase Freedom. This quarter is resturaunts and gas stations. I think Discover card gives 5% too. But I am sure others will have more cards for you! :)

We had a Capital One card that gives 2% on gas and groceries, no fee. And a Chase card that gives 2% on dining and fast food with no fee. Our best card is the GM card that gives us 5% on everything, but that has a $39 fee.

I believe that Discover only pays 5% on whatever category is chosen for that month (or quarter), not on every purchase. There is American Express Blue Cash Everyday that pays 1% for purchases, 2% for gas stations and dept. stores, and 3% at supermarkets. This is a no fee card. Chase Freedom gives the 5% on selected categories and 1% for everything else. It's tough to get a good % of cash back unless you pay an annual fee.

Yes, I saw that after I posted and that seems to be the norm. You can't get a great % but at least you can get a decent % on certain things. It really depends on what you are looking for. Discover Card and Amex cards are not accepted everywhere. So you could end up loosing out there. I like my Freedom card. So far every quarter has had some 5% bonus perk that I use.

Capital One has a Cash Rewards card. You earn 1.5% back on every purchase

Bank of America Signature Rewards gives 3% on groceries, 2% on gas, and 1% on everything else, no fee. There is also no limit per month AND after you reach the first $300 in rewards, they start giving an additional 25% of your rewards to your total when you cash out. I earned over $700 in the first year that can be applied directly to my card, my mortgage, or can be sent to me as a check. :thumbsup2

Do you belong to Costco? If so, the AMEX card that they offer might work for you. You do have to maintain an executive membership with Costco and that is billed to your card each year, but that is the only fee. I really like mine for a couple of reasons. It pays at least one percent on everything and pays two percent on travel and restaurants and three percent on gas. It also pays one percent on Costco purchases and that is in addition to the two percent back that Costco gives it's executive members. At the end of the year, AMEX issues you a check for your rewards and that check can be cashed at Costco for CASH.

We have the Fidelity MasterCard that gives 2% on all purchases with no annual fee. I think new accounts get 1.5% though.
