Hello: I'm Canadian in the process of selling a DVC contract and was wondering if anyone has any experiences on getting a refund of the withholding tax that was withheld? Successful or otherwise. Thanks Canadian Tom

I never have yet,,,not planning on selling either. BUT please check with a tax accountant that is familiar with US tax. IF we ever sell, I am not sure if I would ask for that back, for me. Right now its 15%, you need a ITTN number, I think that is what it is called. Then you are in the US IRS books. I would prefer to only need to deal with one revenue agency not 2. But that is up to you.

We did. We were advised to not worry about the withholding tax from the timeshare people but we wanted to do things by the book. We hired an accountant who we thought knew what he was doing. We ended up fixing things ourselves, got our own ITTNs and eventually got our witholding tax back but it took awhile. Be patient and find an accountant who specializes in US timeshares.

If you do a forum search "selling dvc" there is a thread with more info and links.
