Case 1: There was a Project Manager at DH's office...he tends to be very offensive, saything crude or inappropriate things. He said something to a female co-worker, at least 2 times. He was talked to. Well he used a degragorory term about Jewish people when he was talking to DH last week. And it was really stupid considering we are Jewish! DH of course reported it, and well 3 strikes shall we say! He was canned today.
Stupid much :confused3

Case 2: DH was interviewing a perspective programmer today to work at his office. His office gives initial drug exams at first interviews at the office. Well guess who failed!! Granted...he wasn't told it was gonna happen, but seriously?? He also watered down his sample to try to fix it!! Guess who didn't finish the interview and is not getting hired!!
Dead braincells :confused3

Seriously, those are some pretty bad decisions. It's sad your DH had to hear that.... what is wrong with people:confused3

Just this week there was a thread about someone asking "for their buddy" if disney does a drug test when they hire. :confused3

My best friend's firing someone today. He works from home 4 days a week and one day in the office, he's been with them for 4 weeks.

He didn't do the training work he was assigned to do.

He hasn't contacted the clients he was assigned.

He went through cupboards till he found info he wasn't supposed to have. Then when questioned where he got it from, he lied that a co-worker had given him it.

He comes in early, takes a long lunch and leaves early.

Two female colleagues reported seeing women's underwear when they passed his computer. When his history was checked, he'd been doing his online banking, catching up on the news, shopping, etc. Pretty much anything but actual work.

If he's doing all that in the office, how can he be trusted to work at home? He's 30, not a kid. What kind of work ethic is that :confused3

During an interview the hiring manager said to me, "I'm actively trying to lower the estrogen level of this office." Really?

During an interview I was conducting as the hiring manager :teeth: a candidate said repeatedly, "You know how those New York people are..." Well, yuh. Yep I do. My PARENTS LIVE THERE.

I once had a woman appear for an interview in a very short skirt and no lingerie. :scared:

Someone was once (recently) stupid enough to use the term "f@ggot" in my presence. They are no longer employed. Nor would anyone be who used derogatory terms to refer to a given person or a group.

Unless a stand is willing to be taken, that sort of behavior continues in the workplace. Failing to call someone on that type of behavior is a form of condoning the behavior. There are systems set up for reporting infractions on the part of any coworker (supervisor or not).

I am weary of the excuse that people are "tired" of political correctness. It's not PC that is the issue here, it's having consideration and respect for all coworkers regardless of their personal circumstances. If that's PC, then bring it on.

At my work, we had the drug test scenario as well. The kid moved across the country for the job only to be canned after telling us he was not going to pass the test. Also, Saturday night the police called the superintendent saying the doors were unlocked to the place. When the superintendent got there, he walked inside to finds cops talking with the bartender and manager who decided to stay after to watch television and help themselves to a few free alcoholic beverages. *facepalm* I was saying on Sunday the same thing - wrong time to be messing up at the workplace.
