With the TREEHOUSES will SSR owners finally get...

I know for sure that the Treehouses as of today will be a booking category, just as a Grand Villa is. Not sure what the point structure is.

As to the rest of the resort, like CarolA, I hope they don't change it but my feel for it based on what they did not say is, they are going to.

And I really fell when they change it, the points will reflect the change. Preferred locations will require a higher point usage than less desired such as Carousel.

This could all change at anytime, as Disney does have a habit of doing that.

it will definitely affect availibility there is no way it cant, if you wish to book a 2 bedroom unit for 7 nights and you can't get all 7 nights say in Congress Park you are going to have to move to get the other 2 nights. Without categories you stand a very good chance of getting all 7 nights in one location by simply booking a two bedroom, location anywhere.

So unless people are willing to move during their stay, Disney may very well end up with more inventory being not booked by members, and maybe that is what they want anyway.

Be careful what you ask for until you examine all the ramifications of doing so.

How is this any different than any other resort that has booking categories? If I call BWV at 7 months and make a request for a Boardwalk view villa for 7 nights and it's only available for 5 nights I have the option of booking what they have and moving or booking all 7 nights in a preferred pool/garden view room (assuming that's available). If SSR is the hypothetical example I could book the 5 nights in CP and move (if it was important to me to stay in CP) or I could book all 7 nights in the Paddocks (or whatever section has all 7 nights). If you're an owner at SSR and you're booking early I would think your first or second choice would be available. If not, at least you know from the time you make the reservation what booking (i.e. section) you actually have.

There is no difference at all, but it will still affect availibility to get a certain size unit. Right now when you book a 2 bedroom you are booking out of a very large pool, make categories and the pool gets smaller.

Not saying it doesn't happen at other resorts sure it does, the more categories the harder it is to match it all up. Which is why upgrades at nonDVC resorts are granted.

This change obviously does not bother some, it does bother others.

No,, I am not for booking categories!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

To be fair....

saratoga is not overbuilt.....per se....

What it is is a burden on the whole DVC system....
DVC knew that Saratoga would not stack up to the other locations in terms of demand....certainly not in the 7 month window.....

so they built 1/3rd of their entire room inventory there.....and i believe 1/3 of all DVC owners are saratoga home members (by their own figures given to the state of florida when they filed for the necessary timeshare permits for the contemp tower back in march)....

to knowingly flood the system with a location that was an complete failure before it was converted to a DVC with a non-existent theme and very little in the way of amenities is a violation of DVC's end of the sales agreement...in my opinion....

they are locking people into their home resorts in many cases.....i believe the goal there is to push for additional ownership interests at new locations...as evidenced by the 35 mailers we all recieve annually to do so....

that's my problem with this....overall.....by building these gigantic DVC developments at Saratoga and Animal Kingdom.....they may actually completely take the freedom of movement away from the mass membership....

and that was definitely something they preached when doing sales pitches....and very important to some of us....

just as much as no set weeks of the year....

oh...and as far as booking categories.....who cares? it's not like a "preferred" location at saratoga is vastly different than all the others

I think the bigger problem of booking at 7 months and earlier has more to do with the developer points. These are being used by members besides rooms being out for normal reasons because something broke and needs fixing.
