With national not "official" are you switching & trying some other rental car? Which is your choice?

The fact that National was official never influenced my rental car decisions.

Are you sure that is true ;)? Have you used National with the Disney Club contract code and coupons (which are generally better than most other discounts available at National)? Would National have offered those 'Disney' discounts if they were not "official"? Would you have used National without those discounts?

Whether "official" or not, I will continue to use National if they have the lowest rate (of a major rental company on airport with an express service). Over the past two years I have used both Avis and National. National often works out to be the better rate when I use the Disney Club discount and coupons. Now that Disney Club is going away and those discounts will no longer be available, who knows if National will continue to be cheapest. However, that would happen regardless of the "official" tagline. I suppose if Disney Club was continuing and National was no longer "official" and would not accept the Disney Club discount then this status change could have an impact.

Of course, that brings up a good question. Will National continue to offer a Disney Club contract rate and coupon discounts thru the end of the Disney Club next year?

We've used National many times in the past, however, it's Avis from now on. Used them in July, and will probably always use them (unless, of course, rates are much cheaper with others).

Well, now that I'm in the midst of planning our Nov/Dec 03 trip, I've decided that after using National for the last 3 trips, we'll be using Alamo. I'd prefer National but the rates are WAY too high...I was quoted well over $300 for a week and then I went to Alamo using the DC codes and came up with $235 total with taxes and fees.

Let me know if you are getting good rates with National still, cause I'm certainly not!

I've always used National, I paid $156 with tax for a week, full size, earlier this month. I checked them for May 2003, it's $320! No way! I priced Alamo, it's about $218, still high. I paid about $139 last May. I will shop around closer to the date, hopefully there will be specials.

I have use several different rental companies, but I prefer National. Hopefully I can get a good rate this time around.

Never. I either had a better relationship with Avis or Hertz, or was using Dollar. I've never rented from National.

We always use National(Emarald Aisle).

I like being in my rental car 10 minutes after landing, with no hassles.
Here are the rates we got for 3 trips this year(2003) using National, with the Entertaiment Book codes.

Orlando 6 days in Feb-$173(taxes inc)
San Antonio 7 days July $172 (taxes inc)
Orlando (VB) 5 days July $180(taxes inc)

To me it isn't worth looking for cheaper prices than above.National is on-site at MCO and very convenient. ;)

I prefer paying $125 per week in Orlando, with Dollar.

Quite sure. The Official car as of 1/1 will be Alamo and the DC club will have discounts for Alamo, not National. BTW, they are both owned by the same parent company. National is still accepting the discount codes for DC, but, who knows what will happen on the 1st?

I got the DC newsletter earlier this month and it said they are accepting the discount for National through 12/31/03, but I didn't see the free day coupon.

I like the convenience of National's Emerald Aisle service, and the fact that I can drop off the car at the Dolphin.

I just lowered my rate with National for the first week of Feb. to
$ 156.39 total. I used Dee's AARP code and a 15.00 coupon I found on the net. This is for a full week, EA, Full size. When I first started this escapade it was 189.00, last week 169. and now this. Alamo, even with all the codes I have found, is much higher, like 50.00 more for the lowest rate I could find.
So, I guess it pays to keep on checking.

Brian, is this a special rate through one of your professional affiliations, or are great rates like this normally available to just plain folks? It's been a while since I've found really good rates at Dollar on anything other than a subcompact.

For eight days (jan 21 at 11 am-28 4 pm), it's still $184 (can't use the coupon for a compact or sub)..so we're still with the Alamo for $150. Darn.I'd much rather use National.

This is a standard rate available to anyone. The public codes for Dollar are posted at Mouse Savers. That rate is for an economy car, but the codes worked just as well with larger vehicles.
