How far would you have to drive to find a store that doubles or triples coupons?

We're in a suburb of Chicago and none of the store here do this. None of the stores by our lake house in WI do either. My guess is that we'd have to drive pretty far. I may be worth it if I could get $1,000 worth of groceries for $5.00 ;)

5 miles Just double though not triple.

There's one in Manitowoc, WI that doubles if you feel like driving 3+ hours from Chicago :yay: It's not worth it though, you won't get $1000 order. They only double up to 5 coupons for every $25 order. I can't believe there's nothing around the Chicago area that doubles. What kind of grocery stores are there?

No store in Western Michigan doubles coupons. I'm jealous of those of you who can get such a good deal. I'd love it!

Most grocery stores here double, except for Aldi's and Price Rite. They used to triple up to 5, but, haven't for years. :confused3 Within 10 miles from my home there is Aldi's, Big Y, Shop Rite, Stop & Shop, and Target. Within another 10 miles is Price Chopper,Price Rite and Walmart. So, I'm very lucky and spoiled.

We have them here in OH at Giant Eagle. It is wonderful. However, I wouldn't drive too far to get double coupons if they weren't offered here. With the price of gas these days, it isn't worth it.

I live 25 miles from Manitowoc and it isn't worth it to me to drive to Mani to find a store that doubles coupons. :confused3

None of the stores here (that I want to shop at) double coupons. My time, gas used and wear and tear on my vehicle account for something, too. ;)

Our local stores double coupons with a face value up to 99 cents. I've never seen any triple coupon stores.

The store 1 mile from me doesn't, but the Spartan Brand associate store (Value Center) three miles from me does. Also, Kroger and Meijer are both less than five miles from me. All three of them double up to 50c.

I live in a far north suburb of Chicago and I once research this and found I would have to drive to Janesville, WI to double coupons. But that was a couple years ago. I am not sure now.

Although Kmart once in awhile doubles coupons. But they don't really have food there. Just a few condiment type things.

We have two major chains in the area. Jewel/Osco which is owned by Supervalu (Albertsons, Cub Food, ShopNSave...), Dominicks which is owned by Safeway. They pretty much dominate the market but we also have a few Food 4 Less which owned by Kroger, Meijer, Trader Joe, Whole Foods, Aldi, Super Wal-Mart, Super Target and a few locally owned stores like Caputo's, Michael's Fresh Market, Garden Fresh Market...

We used to have Eagle Country Market that would double coupons up to 50 cents but they went out of business in 1999. Back then, Dominick's and Jewel were their major competitors and they never doubled coupons, not even for a special promotion.

We're less than 1 mile from the first Meijer store to open in IL and they have never doubled coupons. They're at the same intersection of a Jewel store. Food 4 Less by us is owned by Kroger and they don't double either. It must depend on what the competition in the area is doing. Since none of the others stores double, they don't either.

Edited to add...

I'm not really thinking about driving that far. I watched the coupon show yesterday and it made me think that I'd have to go pretty far to save anything close to what they did. Gas at $4.19 a gallon and 13mpg with my van would only be worth it for mega savings and that would never happen :)

Ok standard disclaimer: My time is worth a whole lot more than most coupons so I'm a bit jaded.

Luckily all my local grocery stores double coupons. Shoprite, Acme and Pathmark all double coupons.

I am not driving 20 miles to get a 5 dollar savings in groceries. If I have to spend an hour driving to and from. not gonna happen.

Yes, although you would be taking a large risk that the last person didn't wipe out the shelves before you got there, making your trip a waste.

We have big issues here with couponers wiping out shelves.

You can get rainchecks for future visits, but that only grants you the sale price, it does not allow you triple coupons if the triples are over.

I go 3 miles as the closest store that does super doubles or triples is 3 miles away.

We have 10 grocery stores within a 5 mile radius. The only time we go further than 5 miles is to go to the farmer's market for fresh vegetables. Which one does what with coupons rarely comes into play.

I don't know of any around here either.
I'll occasionally use a coupon but most of our groceries are bought from Trader Joe's so for the most part it isn't happening.

We both started having a few health problems about 5 years ago and now we are pretty specific about our most of our food - Organic, hardly any HFCS, low fat etc etc. Trader Joe's makes it easier for me because I don't have to spend an extra hour in the grocery store scrutinizing labels.

I figure I'd rather pay higher food bills than higher medical bills.

It works for us.

My nearest chain grocery store is already a 30 minute drive (about 25 miles)... and I drive even further for Walmart (35-40 min) and still further for Costco (60 minutes)..... so NO I probably wouldn't want to drive much further for double coupons. With gas prices where they are, I would have to save a BOATLOAD of money to make it worthwhile (plus my time is valuable as well).....................P

Our Copps here is having double DOUBLE coupons tomorrow (Saturday) where you can double up to 10 coupons which make it a lot more worth it IMO. If you figure out all of the transactions ahead of time. You could do up to 7 and possibly get up to $140 worth of stuff (that's only if you'd double 10 - $1 coupons in each transaction) for $35. Not the greatest deal but I usually use free coupons to get my total up to that $25 making the whole order free.

I remember years ago when I use to coupon and visit a coupon board, people from Chicago would car pool all the way to Warsaw Indiana to triple coupons at the Marsh store there.

First of all, Marsh was really high on items, so even at triple coupon prices, it still wasn't much of a bargain and second with the price of gas these days, you would end up saving very little!!!

I don't shop at Copps. My grocery store of choice is Festival. :)
