With a Gty, when will I know what room I'm assigned?

I am scheduled in a category 12 gty on 5-5-05. I originally booked this cruise back in July,o4. I understand that I will get a category 12 or if I'm lucky I could get an upgrade. I'm ok with that and I know that there is no way to predict if I will get an upgrade or not. That is not my question. What I want to know is will I have to wait until the day that my cruise starts to find out my cabin number? Will they tell me the number when I register at the port right before we board? Or will I find out ahead of time and thus know ahead of time if I get an upgrade? I know they can suprise you when you check in with a room change but do they usually assign a room and notify the cruiser prior to embarkation day if it is a gty? I didn't know if that info might be on the paperwork they send to you shortly before the cruise. As you can tell, I've never cruised before and I do not know what I am talking about.

When your docs arrive, it will have the room number on it. I called my TA a week or so prior to getting my docs....asking where they were. She was able to look in the computer and tell me what my room number was. HTH

We were a gty cat 12 for the upcoming 2/5/2005 Magic (Eastern). I got my room assigned to me about a week ago. I ended up with a cat. 12 room (2509). I checked about bumping and they said the cruise is sold out.

We booked GTY11 and got our room assignment (Cat 9) about 30 days prior to cruising. Good luck to you.
