With 3 days left my verdict is in

Just read the whole thread - couple of comments:

1. I am a paralegal.
2. The WDW boards are vicious - that has always been my home until the past few months and must say this area of the Dis is refreshing.
3. Been to WDW 20+ times. Never been to DL - going in 3 weeks.
4. WDW can be for purists too! :goodvibes I consider myself a Disney purist and I love MK and always will because that is where all my childhood memories are. Calling it a knockoff is a little hurtful. :guilty: Just because people do not make it their "main" resort does not make them any less of a purist than people who regularly attend DL. Some of us in the East can not go West everytime we need a magic fix.
5. IMO there is room for all Disney parks. Are they all the same? no (this is a good thing), Do they each have their own set of issues? yes. But, there is room for each of them in their own right. I am sure while at DL I am going to think to myself from time to time that I miss WDW, but I am also looking forward to seeing new things and experiencing a different resort.

I guess I just come from a place of thinking that if you want WDW - go to WDW. We chose to go to DL to experience the DIFFERENCES not have a carbon copy of all of our WDW trips. I do agree that the "Disneyland sucks" comment was opening yourself up to some people becoming defensive. Just like I would be if someone said WDW sucks. :sad2:

But please please please........for everyone who is a DL die hard, please do not group people who visit WDW regularly as non-purists. That is an incorrect statement. We all can love Disney and everything it stands for and not visit DL on a regular basis and still be enamored with everything Walt envisioned. Eventhough Walt could not be a part of WDW's planning and opening, I am sure if he was able to see the WDW resort today, he would be proud of the accomplishments. Then be pissed about the empty buildings in Epcot. :scared1:

Ok I will say this. The whole Matterhorn thing was Disneylands fault. I did my job and called. They assured me it would be open. Again read the whole dam post. The guy on the other end laughed at me. Thinking I was nuts for even asking if it would be open. Oh and don't tell me Disneyland didnt know The ride is going through a major rehab. They new far in advance. Disney just likes to keep everything a secret, like where to line up for world of color show which was incredible. I am from NYC, I don't get to come hear all the time like a lot of you guys, so yes I was pissed. Just last night had fast passes for Autopia, after Indy was broken down. Went all the way across to Autopia and that was broken down. Finally rode Utopia. Indy opened back up. Went to Indy on line and it broke down again. That would get anyone upset including my daughter who I feel bad for. We finally did ride at 9pm and it was awesome, my second favorite ride next to Soarin. Oh and here is another example one day we were near Big Thunder. It was under supposed routine maintence. If that the case why doesnt Disneyland just say between 2-3 ride will be closed. No they never know when it will be back up. If its routine they should have a time frame. The kicker is. My wife went to CM at ride and asked for 3rd time when it will be back up. She had no idea. As my wife is telling me this. Which was not even 10 seconds after question was asked, hoards of people start rushing in because ride is open again. If that doesn't make your blood boil then your not human. Am I having fun yes. Is it stressful yes. Is Disneyworld better. In my opinion yes. I can only go by my experience and last year for such a huge place everything went so smoothly at the world. Not 1 ride break down. No secrets. Oh and don't let me get started on the biggest secret of how to get 8 day park hopper. How we called 5 times to make sure we would be on exception list whatever that is. How disneyland doesn't avertise this. How when we got to ticketbooth. The guy has no idea what we were talking about.45 minutes later after getting a supervisor. They found our name in the secret list. How magical.

No offense here, but it sounds like you've created your own bad mood. I do remember your original posts about MM back in the day, and that irritation has seemingly stayed with you throughout the rest of your planning and trip. If it had upset you that much, perhaps you should have switched your trip back to WDW.

One thing I have always liked about DL is that it's such a relaxing, enjoyable trip. I try not to stress about things on vacation, and so if one ride is down (like BTMRR), we grab a FP, and head on to another ride. It's not worth stressing and griping over, and not worth letting your children get upset about. That just ruins it for everyone.

And sadly, you can't expect hundreds of cast members to know each and everything about each ride or show. If the "hoards" were rushing in close enough where you could see it, you should have just happily joined the line. I do find it hard to believe that tons of other people magically knew, but not you standing right there?

As for a cast member "laughing" at you, and questions over an 8 day pass, you should have called back for, or asked for a supervisor right away. I've never once had a problem that each and every cast member don't do their best to seriously help with, but if that had happened, I would have asked for someone in charge ASAP. Please do bear in mind that the people on the phone aren't sitting on top of a ride waiting for your call. That's WHY ride refurbishment notices are put up on the boards and posted by DL watchers.

I was looking at that part for fastpass. The other day I got fastpass for Star Tours at 8 am said I could get another fastpass starting at 8:40. I got fast passes for autopia at 8:15. Then walked to BTM at about 8:30 got those also.

Well, that's awesome! Lucky you, to be able to collect more to be able to ride more!

If a ride breaks down you cant grab a Fastpass. The machines are shut off. So dont tell me thats what you do.

I guess I'll chime in. Just spent an hour reading this thread.
I love Disneyland, have had chances to go to the "World" and passed them up. I grew up going to Disneyland in Anaheim, first trip being July 4th 1976!
So, you don't love it like we do, but please don't come to this side of the DIS board and bash it, you knew it would cause mass destruction...

Jack, please pass on my condolances to your wifes' friend at work, what a tragedy!

BTW, I'm a Licensed Child care provider in Sparks, NV. :lovestruc

Ok, if I want to bash Disneyland I have every right to. Who are you to tell me what I can post. Was the original post harsh, yes did I admit that, yes. If you read the whole thread you would see I did have a good time. All of us miss it. After spending 4 days in Monticello bored to death. I wish I could be running around Disneyland again. There was never a dull moment in Disney.

In defense of DL, you picked the wrong week to go. It was a horrible week there. Crowds were bad. People were rude. Try going in the off season(we went in October and loved it.)

I didn't read through all the posts but I do have to say that the ride closures during our trip last week were insane! I have never seen so many rides down (sometimes 3 or 4 at a time that we noticed) and we go a lot. Our first day, we had 3 different rides broken down either while we were in line or when we went to ride them. One day, my son and I went to ride Indy and my DH went to get FP for space and both rides were down. According to a CM, Star Tours was down for 7 hours one day. Even rides that I don't normally see go down went down like Small World, Alice, and Peter Pan. We tried one day to ride Goofy's sky school 2 x's and both times it was down. It is frustrating when you trek across the park to a ride to find it closed. The monorail was also down a lot and when it was running only one train was running so lines were long. I'm glad we didn't splurge at the DL hotel for that convenience.

I'm not sure what was going on but the closures really did seem high.

Hi guys,

Just a note...

It's okay to disagree, but not okay to start arguing and insulting. If that continues, unfortunately, I'll have to close this thread.

Tino - sorry that so many things went wrong on your trip. Sometimes that happens, and that can really put a damper on a vacation. But, life is too short, when more serious things happen in our World, to dwell on irritations and minor inconveniences.
Hopefully, you'll be able to remember the fun things you & the family did.

Jack ~ my condolences to your wife & her partner. That is just heartbreaking.

From everything I've heard from my own kids who were there a couple of those days, I'd have to agree. The number and frequency of ride closures was unusually high. I was also there one of those days but we only did a couple of things and didn't notice anything being down, but that doesn't mean things weren't down. Crowds were also very high, but that is something I expect at this time of year. It does *seem* worse but that is very subjective.

One of my kids who was planning on staying the whole day came home early because they just felt it was too much (both crowds and closures).

On another note I'm real curious about the 8-day park hopper. I must have missed that discussion when it took place, but wouldn't it be much cheaper just to get an annual pass? There must be some significant discounting on that bad boy to get the price under $500 for 8 full days in both parks.

Mary Jo, I was being attacked. People started insulting me. I stated my opinion. So hopefully you meant that towards the people who started with me. I just defended myself, which I have every right to do, and for the last time I had a good time. I am happy some people who go often have stated that there were more rides down than usual.

Tino - my comments were directed to everyone on the thread, not any one person. I can understand how disappointing to have several things happen while on vacay.

I believe Tino's 8 day hoppers cost about $10 more than the 6 day. Which probably cost probably more than $150 LESS than a Deluxe annual pass actually. x 4, yeah, Tino saved at least $600 doing that option, so it was certainly worth doing.

Please accept my aplogies, Tino.
I didn't men to add insult to injury.:littleangel:

I paid 197 canadian for adult 8 day passes and 174 for kids 8 day passes...I think there abouts.

Yoinks! We bought ours on the weekend (on the other side of Canada-Halifax) and we paid $210 CDN -adult 8 day hopper...how did you do better than that:confused3

The 8 day park hopper saved my family a bunch. It was 5 dollars extra to do 7 day. The 8th day was free. So for 2 extra days it cost my family 20 bucks. We are family of 4. The only problem is Disneyland doesn't advertise this and when you call ask for Stacy. Tell her when your going and she will put you in exception book. When we arrived guy had no idea what we were talking about, but they did find our names eventually and everything was fine. I still don't understand why Disney tries to keep this a secret. Other than people selling unused days.

We found the deal on mousesavers.com for the 8 day hopper...fabulous deal!
