Wishful thinking.... Past on-board booking

I know, I am probably hoping for pixie dust that has lost its lustre, but here is goes anyways....

In January 2013 my Mother, Brother and I took a cruise with 2 separate cabins. While we were on the cruise we did an onboard booking for January 2014. Come January 2014 my brother was enlisted in the Marines and WAS NOT allowed to travel even home, let alone on a cruise that left the United States. To be honest, life was so ridiculously crazy I didn't even think at the time about calling Disney let alone worry about a re-booking plan.

Fastforward to now and my Mom and I (both the leads on the past used booking and the onboard future booking), are taking an elderly friend on a cruise. My Brother cannot travel, and will not be able to travel with us, still due to his career.

Granted, the deposits were minimal, but if I contact Disney and advise them of what occurred what is the likelihood they would take that into consideration in any way?

If you never moved the booking to a future sail date, I would think the deposit money is long gone. As for getting them to give you onboard booking benefits for a future cruise, that isn't likely to happen either. Their current requirements are that the sailing has to happen within 24 months of the booking date. So even if they were feeling generous about your old booking, I don't see them allowing something they won't even give to current customers.

So... do you have an active OBB that you are hoping to change brother's name for the friend? Or did you allow the OBB to expire/pass/lose the deposit? I believe it was back in 2013 that OBBs started to have an expiration date; prior to that rule change, OBBs were "grandfathered" and given an expiration of November 2015. So it's possible if you continued to push your reservation out it is still valid for a few more months and I would think you could add the friend and drop your brother. But if you either canceled the OBB (received a refund) or allowed it to expire (lost the deposit), I really don't see DCL offering much assistance at this point.

Good luck and enjoy your cruise! And thank you to your brother for his service!
