Please can somebody help me? I have just had 5 of my 18 guests drop out of coming to our wedding which is in just over 6months. I have already paid my $10,000 minimum to Disney but now I don't think we will get any benefit whatsoever for the private dining reception having so few of us. Am I able to switch to an Escape wedding - the extras I have added on has already exceeded the $10,000 minimum needed for Wishes without the reception element. I am from the UK, have just tried to call my planner but DFTW shuts at 4pm so I am in limbo until tomorrow - not going to sleep tonight!! Had I known this would happen I would have just stuck to the Escape package in the first place!!

I'm sorry to hear that this has happened to you. I know it's easier said than done but try not to worry, I'm sure your planner will do all they can to help you.

Thank you - I didn't sleep a wink last night  Why does the UK have to be 5 hours ahead of the US - means I have to wait longer lol!!!

I'm sorry that happened. I'm sure you'll still have a beautiful wedding regardless of how many people come.

I don't think you can go from a Wishes to an escape because that would be like a downgrade. Typically you can't do something like that without penalty and I think because you already signed your contract agreeing to the $10k minimum, I don't think you'd be able to drop that back to the escape price. I'm sure your planner can figure something out that will keep your costs down. With that amount of people you could probably stay very close to the minimum expenditure.

I live in Orlando and would be more than happy to come to your wedding :goodvibes

Just kidding.. I'm sure they will be able to help you out. Hang in there!

I'm so sorry to hear that. I don't think they do let you downgrade after you've signed on the dotted line sorry. Try to think positive, the money you would have spent on their food etc can now be spent on something for you, or something to make the day better for everyone.

I am sorry this has happened to you. I can relate sort of - we're having an escape VR and most of the people who said they were coming are now backing out of coming and we're just over a month away.

I don't live in Orlando but I'll come if you want guests! :)

But seriously - I hope things work out for the best for you both.

I've just been to buy a load of lotto tickets, if I win ill come!

Thanks all for your replies. My planner phoned and advised, even though we would still hit the $10K minimum spend if we still went for Escape, this would result in us losing $1000 of our deposit. So we now have a lot to think about. Will keep you posted on what we decide to do.

Out of interest though - what would you do?

Can I ask how much the reception would cost as it stands?

Where do you think you would plan to eat if you didn't have this reception?

Would you want a private room? If so some restaurants require a minimum spend to do this. Do you have Carries passporter guide? If so in the Escape section there is a guide to restaurants, charges and private rooms, which may be useful.

I hope this helps a little.

Oh no sorry to read that Hayley, ahh weddings can be so stressful and 9/10 it's always down to the guests.

Personally i'd stick with your Wishes wedding and private reception, although we're having an Escape wedding we still plan on adding a private reception (hopefully in the Whitehall room) and thats with only a guest count of around 12-14 people

I think, based on what my planner has said today my food/drink is in excess of $2000 thats just for the reception, not including the DP - which I am told I cannot have at UK Upper now due to the numbers!!! Even with the $1000 loss I think Escape would still work out cheaper and have a better flow. I will wait for my BEO to arrive though before we make our decision.

We did an Escape with a lunch reception at the Napa Room and a dessert party at Sago Cay for under $10k. It's definitely doable. Good luck with your decision!

Wait for your BEO and also ask them to do an Escape BEO for you as well.

Ask for a timeline for both as well and then compare.

Waiting for your BEO is probably the best idea, I really like Chilly's suggestion of asking them to prepare an Escape BEO too then you can really compare the two.

I'm sure it will all work out for you guys and you'll have the most amazing time.
