So I'm am trying to be proactive here in regards to our room blocking. We are getting married in October 2015 and coming up on our 1 year mark!!! So we will definitely be able to meet the 25 room requirements to get our free room, but we are probably going to rent dvc points for most of our trip. I know I was told that we are not allowed to use a dvc room for it, but are there any other restrictions? Like can you get a 2 bedroom club level at the grand? Thoughts?

I'm a DVC member and will be using points for the majority of our wedding/honeymoon. We want to upgrade our "free room" and disney is saying they want to use the discounted standard room rate as the basis of the upgrade. So, in other words instead of a $50 upgrade to a lake view room (the difference in the two rates) they are saying I need to pay $300 to upgrade (rack higher room rate minus discounted room rate). I am not all that happy right now about this...sorry to hijack your thread a bit. I needed to vent a bit on this subject.

We're renting point for our wedding and honeymoon trip. A lot of people like to use the free room to try out a resort they wouldn't otherwise stay at (the Poly and the Grand come to mind in this respect) but we chose to not resort hop, so we're going from our Beach Club studio to a standard Beach Club room. I did this on our last night as I figured it would help inspire me to get the majority of the packing done the night before and not leave it all to our last night in WDW :thumbsup2

Disney only guarantees a standard room for the free night. You can request something else but there's no guarantee you'll get it.

We are staying at the Boardwalk on points for our wedding week, the last night we are using our comped room for the poly.

Okay. Are they going to give you a standard room for the comped room?

Yes, the comped room will always be a standard room. I believe you can pay for an upgrade or some have been lucky enough to get upgraded for free but it's not a guarantee.
