Wishes vs. Escape?

My cousin's planning a 30th VR at WDW and since I'm a DVC member(so of course have more mouse knowledge or at least an idea of where to find stuff), I'm helping out.

Most of our generation like the idea of CG, but the parents(aunt & uncle and the inlaws) don't like the menu(goat cheese mentioned too:love: often:rotfl).

Starr W., I hope you post more info about their VR. I would especially love to hear about their CR reception. That resort's restaurant & banquet rooms have such lovely views, ~sigh.~ Those banquet rooms are definitely candidates on my list for my next VR.

By the way, my young daughter LOVES goat cheese. She would get a kick out of that menu. I've grown to love it, too, but it took me wayyyy longer to fall in love with it than she did. She loved it from her first bite a few years ago, and now begs to have it whenever we're out to dinner. She is definitely an adventurous eater. ;)

Have to keep some of this stuff in mind (6yrs to 20 for me, have to start convincing DH)

Then stick around! I'm still quite a bit out from my next VR (2009), but I'm here trying to pass along my experiences with my last FTW, and at the same time, I'm picking up ideas for my next one. I'd love to have some company on this Dis board. There are a few of us ~ ahem ~ older & wiser folks, but not as many as I'd like. ;) Your 14 year marriage is definitely nothing to sneeze at. Congrats!

We weighed up Wishes over Escape and what would have been the main problem was the room count. We couldn't have met that unless we stayed at Disney for over 2 weeks and we couldn't afford it.

All our people (except one) are coming from the UK and most are only going for the wedding week. Out of all the people going only one is going to stay on Disney.

We have about 10 people going and only two, apart from us, are Disney-ites. None of the others have ever been to Disney (apart from my parents about 8 years ago) and they are all only going as it is our wedding. If they went to Orlando on holiday they probably wouldn't go to a Disney park. You know the type - it is for kids, it's really tacky, it's for tourists etc.

Keep us updated with what you do, where you go, who you speak to, what you find out etc!

OMG some of the girls here could be my kids(if I started reproducing earlier than I did). Sometimes I want to say stand up for yourself girl! to a couple of them but I guess as you get older you learn how to pick your battles a little better with your mother and MIL.:thumbsup2

I just have to keep working on DH and the VR, you know get him to think it's "his idea" :lmao: .

So I'll use my cousin's investigation for a WDW VR as training for mine(her DH is for it , but will have to be sold on WDW). She's already seen some of your pictures and she was like WOW, that's nicer than alot functions she's been to in. She's alot more artistic, visual than I am(she's a mural painter and just got a big commission at a hospital)

B2B-2008, please share your plans. I would love to hear what you've chosen to do for Wishes wedding, especially since your guest list is so manageable. I bet your guests are thrilled beyond belief to be sharing in your big day!

Hi Janet2K,

At the moment we have just started talking with our planner. I sent her a huge email last week with lots of questions, just waiting for her to get back to us.

We have the Wedding Pavilion and the GF White Hall Room booked and also a dessert party. I have asked if we can extend our pre-reception and dessert party. We want to have a kind of back to front reception. When I have some answers I will update my PJ.

Beep, I know that's a problem for lots of folks. I hope you at least discussed it with the FTW folks to see if anything could be done.

All our people (except one) are coming from the UK and most are only going for the wedding week. Out of all the people going only one is going to stay on Disney.

I understand there are lots of lovely properties to stay in off-site.

I'm the type who wants to stay where the action is and thus will only stay on-site. But to my chagrin, my parents have sometimes stayed off-site. That's their prerogative.

Sadly, I know exactly the type. My older sister falls into that category. We've never been able to convince her to join us in WDW on vacation (even when we offered to pay for everything). You can lead some horses to water but you just cannot make them drink. It was a shame that she didn't join us for our FTW vow renewal. She missed one heckuva party. But at least the rest of my family was there. I have the most precious memories, in particular, of my parents & my aunt. Some really priceless stuff. I'm thankful for that.

So, Beep, I definitely feel your pain. Too bad I'm not related to you. I would be at your FTW with bells on -- and I'd stay on-site, too! ;)

Starr W., there are threads which I simply will not open. I know that if I did, I would probably say something that would get me banned. I've been a member of the Dis Community for far too long to have that happen.

I'm thankful my parents raised me the way that they did. But, boy, if you ever met me in person, you'd see the "real" Janet. I'm definitely no Shrinking Violet, that's for certain. And if any of my fellow Dis'ers describe some of my vacations to you, I need to go on the record right now and state that those photos of me dancing on the tables with a lampshade on my head have all been Photoshopped. I don't care how realistic they look. :lmao:

If you stick around, you'll discover plenty of tricks to use on him.

What a smart woman you are. I'm very jealous. You'll get to help her plan -- and you won't have the hard part of writing the checks! Boy, have I mentioned how jealous I am of you? Well, I am! :rotfl2:

She's already seen some of your pictures and she was like WOW, that's nicer than alot functions she's been to in.

Thanks for the kind words. I'm glad the photos helped show her a side of Disney that most folks don't know exists. But remember, my photos can never really do the Disney ~magic~ justice. It truly is something that has to be experienced to be believed. There are things that I have seen that have completely blown me away -- and I know what Disney is capable of pulling off so that is saying a lot. An awful lot.

She's alot more artistic, visual than I am(she's a mural painter and just got a big commission at a hospital)

Good. She'll need that big commission to pay for her big, fat, Fairy Tale Weddings vow renewal. ;)

B2B-2008, sounds like you're right on top of things. Hopefully, it won't take her too long to get back to you with the answers to those questions.

I'm glad you asked to extend your dessert party. If it is one that includes a view of the fireworks (be it Wishes, Illuminations, or Fantasmic), I think one hour is too short. An hour & a half is definitely better. You want your guests to have a chance to chitchat, munch, drink, and relax. That's hard to do within an hour, especially if that hour includes fireworks.

Thank you for the link to your PJ. I'll try to check it out later on tonight or later on this week. My daughter just woke up and she's pretty ill so I'm not sure how much longer I can stay on the computer (when she was sleeping, it was a no-brainer to come over here to the Dis to post!).

I haven't checked in here for awhile...

But, OMG...Janet...how will you ever top your last VR?!?!?

Looking forward to seeing the plans unravel. First, you have to finsish your last TR popcorn:: :rotfl2:

I made a 110 page book on blurb.com for myself and each of couples that were with me in Oct for my birthday. It turned out amazing. One of those "you have to see it to believe it" times for sure.

Hey Janet,

I've already been warned a couple of time over at the DVC boards for being way too sarcastic. I hopped over here after reading a thread about the bathrooms in the lobby of SSR weren't clean(I've been in them enough at busy times and have never seen them too gross to use):headache: . I would pay money to see some of these people's houses, I bet I couldn't eat off their floors, but they expect someplace that gets mega traffic to be spotless.

I think it's working on DH! He actually told me what sort of dress he thinks I should look for!

Plus he allowed me to read to him selected parts of Caryn's TR and Lurkyloo's PJ and thinks a WISHES VR at Epcot might be cool!

And I thought it would take me the 6 years!

Hope your daughter feels better, we've been lucky this winter so far with my 2 boys.

Yeah, everyone's a comedian on the Dis, I tell ya. :scared:

Seriously, Melanieewr, I have been working on updating it. I think the first six or seven pages are updated, and I will be updating a few more this weekend.

As to my next VR, I'm not sure if it will be an escape (intimate) or a wishes (custom). Of course, the husband's still pushing for Hawaii, so who knows what the future will hold in store for us. Right now I've simply got my sights set on reaching 24. The husband bought some more fishing equipment a few weeks ago and he'll be lucky to make it through the month alive! :lmao:

By the way, if your photos are on-line, please PM me a link to them. I would love to see them. I hope everything is going well for you.

Nooooooo! *insert sarcastic smilie here*

YAHOO!!!!! You're on your way to a Wishes or Escape FTW vow renewal. *high-five*

...and thinks a WISHES VR at Epcot might be cool!

I agree! A Wishes vow renewal in Epcot would definitely be cool. Just let your husband think it was all his idea. *wink* *wink*

And I thought it would take me the 6 years!

You're a quick learner, Grasshopper. I see that you've been paying attention to the "tricks" that have been offered here on the Dis. Way to go! ;)

Janet; I sent you a pm with the link! There are over 1400 pics just at the GMR event! Of course about half of those are duplicates done in black and white.
