I really want to surprise my girlfriend by taking her to see her favourite show on the last night of our holiday from the balcony of the California Grill. Anybody know the best time to see Wishes from here?

I want to take her there on January 5th 2009 (wishes is at 8:00pm this night)

When I explained what I wanted to do to a CM on the dining reservations line, they booked me in for 9:30. ( I think maybe they thought wishes was at 9)

Anyways... I was going to change the reservation to 9:30 today but wanted to ask anybody who had done this what they thought was the best time to arrive to see wishes from here. Thanks guys

by the way this is my first post... newbie here

Hi and welcome :)

We have done this a few times now but always book our ADR for before the start of Wishes. Last time it was on at 9 I think & we had an ADR for 8pm. This gives you time to be seated (as sometimes you have to wait) - if you let your server know you want to see the fireworks they will normally work your meal around that for you:thumbsup2

You can also request a window seat when checking in but if you are going to the balcony it doesn't matter.

I agree that an hour before is probably advisable.. I booked for 7pm and Wishes was at 8pm, I hadn't actually intended to 'catch' it but we did :goodvibes

we had a table before wishes was due to start, we got lucky and had a great view so we remained at the table :thumbsup2

Welcome to the dis :)

I have booked California Grill to see Wishes twice, both times I made the booking for about an hour before Wishes was due to start and both times we were just on coffee just before Wishes started. The servers are more than happy to delay bringing your next course/coffee out until after Wishes has finished.

Have you been to the California Grill before? I was disapoointed to find that the atmosphere was far from romantic the night we were there. There were lots of children charging around - and it was very noisy for what we had hoped would be a romatic dinner for two followed by Wishes from the balcony.

I would agree with that - California Grill really can't be classed as a romantic evening anymore. Last time we were there I had the man at the table next to me apologising for the behaviour of his children.

Wow, thanks for all the input guys, I reckon an hour before is the way to go.

I don't mind the fact that it won't be romantic, we were sat on the floor right by the castle last time and only caught about 60% of the fireworks and to this day it still remains the most memorable experience of my life, I still well up hearing wishes :)

Anyways thanks again guys I'm going to go and ring the Mouse now.

I would suggest you try Narcoossee at Grand Floridian. You can view from inside the dining area or go out onto the outside balcony. It is not as elevated as Contemporary, but last week, whilst we were there, a man proposed to his girlfriend during the firework display, and got a huge round of applause !

We found Narcoossee to be much quieter and more romantic than California Grill

yeah it looks gorgeous and the view sounds great, just not sure about all the seafood, I only have one rule when eating. If it lives in the sea, steer clear :)

does anybody know if they pipe the music into the restauraunt like they do in the california grill?

thanks guys

Yes...the music is played at a discreet level :thumbsup2

I think it must be hit or miss.. We didn't find CG particularly noisy, it was busy and there were a lot of kids but none running around. I guess it is a bit more casual than other upscale restaurants, just depends what you like I suppose :)

Think we're gonna stick with California Grill, I don't mind the noise at all... only thing is the only time available near wishes was 7:50pm so we're gonna have to get seated then go right up to the balcony lol :)

Ok guys we've just got back ! We didn't need to goto the balcony in the end, we had a window view from our table. It was perfect. Thanks for all the input and advice :)

sounds perfect, glad it all went well! bet your girlfriend was made-up!

Glad to hear you enjoyed CG, I definitely think it's worth asking/waiting for a window table :goodvibes
