My family is not going to show up an hour or more in advance to stake out and attempt to hold a spot for firework viewing. Also, we don't mind watching the fireworks from places other than in front of the castle. However, we would like to see the projection show at least once. Is it worth it to get an FP for Wishes that night and enter the viewing area about 10 minutes before Celebrate the Magic begins? Is the view good from anywhere in the FP viewing area? Am I less likely to encounter children on shoulders in this area?

There's nothing about that area that makes it less likely to encounter kids on shoulders. We had one up in front of us on our last visit. Thankfully they finally put them down after many people said something.

Regardless, I think it's worth trying. The crowd generally moves to the front and there's typically space near the back which is still nice for viewing.

Because you don't want to stake out a spot early and because your primary reason for finding a spot is Celebrate the Magic I do think the FP viewing area would be a good option. The view of the castle is the same from just about the entire area. There are some light poles that are a bit of an obstruction but it's not too hard to adjust your positioning so you can see around them.
Realize it's not a seated location, once the shows start you'll want to stand in most all cases but when it comes to good views of the castle with little waiting it is just about the only option.

We have no problem standing, just want my kids to be able to see it. Also, is there currently an FP area on each side of the hub and how easy is it to make your way back to Adventureland or Fantasyland after fireworks?

Choose the West FP+ area if you want to head to Adventureland after the fireworks.
Choose the East FP+ area if you want to head to Fantasyland after the fireworks.

Easy?
Nobody said it was gonna be easy. ;)

Below is a "work-in-progress" of my overview of the new Hub. Some of the "outer" sidewalks shown have not been built yet. Some of the unfinished areas have since been finished. The original photo is by Scott Keating, posted on WDWMagic.

Ha! Instead of "easy", I should have asked "within the range of possibilities".

Yup.
That's an apt description.
You'll be able to make your way back into the park after the fireworks.
I'd let the crowds thin a bit before venturing forth.

The CM have almost gotten militant about keeping pathways open and crowds moving. We did not find it hard to go from the West area to BOG following fireworks. We went right past the Adventure Land bridge and the path was open

We used a Wishes FP+ on June 11 and arrived at the east viewing location just before Celebrate the Magic and it was a bit crowded...we weren't sardined in there but you still somewhat had to stand your ground. My hubbs and I were pretty much at the very back but we had breathing room which was nice. I didn't care for the people spreading out blankets everywhere just for the 6 of them but eh what can you do.

Would I use a FP on it again? Yes I would. On the arrival night only though (so we're not tied down by it any other day).

If you would like for your children to see Tinkerbell 'fly' over head from the top of the castle to Tomorrowland Terrace, you should choose the East area as Tink flies very close to overhead.
:tinker:

We saw it from the West side and had a great view ... Personally speaking, I wouldn't stand anywhere else if I could choose ...
