We are going to WDW in Feb, and the park hours lists Wishes at 6:45 two nights while we are there. I suppose this is due to the princess and pirate party. I was planning on dining at CG during the fireworks, we did this two years ago, and my ds 11 would like to do it again. What do you all think? We could do it another night when the park is open until 8:00, but with the way the rest of our week is set up, it would be better if we could do this on one of these two nights. This may be a dumb question, but I am curious if it is even dark enough for the fireworks to be as magical as they are later in the evening?? Any input?? :confused3

Umm, maybe I'm missing something. But darkness levels at 6:45 are the same in FL as anywhere else, no?

No, it gets darker earlier in Florida than other places more north because Florida is pretty far south. For instance, when I was in Montana, at 9:30 at night it was still daylight out, which never happens in Florida.

Right now, it starts to get dark around 5:30 or so, by 6:45 it is totally dark outside.

WOW - you learn something new every day! Since it is always light here quite late in the summer, we just expected it to be light late in Florida as the weather was summer-like! Dumb assumption on our part! I am glad it will be dark for our fireworks show!

It's actually the opposite. It gets darker later here than up north. I'm from Massschusetts originally and it gets dark there much earlier in the winter (sometimes as early as 5) than it does here in Florida. It still gets dark early though - so 6:45 fireworks will be fine.

Hehe. When I first moved here I also had a hard time putting "gets dark early" with "good weather."

Remember the time change. Yes it will be dark at that time. :wizard:

FL is a lot further west then most people realise but it will still be dark here at 6:45 in february.

And right now, we're about as far ahead of the Winter Solstice (aka shortest daylight of the year) as February will be after it - so if it's dark by 5:30 now, it may be dark at 4:30 December 21 but six weeks later it'll be dark by 5:30 again.

Thanks for all the replies. I know it bordered on a stupid question, but I just want to get all my ducks in a row.

It's seasonal. In the winter, Florida (or anywhere in the south) has a longer day than in MA. In the summer, it's the opposite. Basically, the closer to the equator you are, the closer to having 12-hr days year round you are. That means the seasonal change isn't as much. (This is why the Arctic circle has almost continuous sunlight in the summer, and almost continuous night in the winter)

Nope - but it's okay. Disney controls the weather - they just pull the big dome over the top like they do when it rains and make it dark.

Just be careful not to stand too close to the castle - sometimes a firework flies up too high and pops the dome - you don't want to be standing there if the sky starts falling.

I dunno - originally Fantasmic! was scheduled for 7:30 PM in the beginning of October... Disney eventually realized their mistake and pushed it back a half hour :teeth:

Really? Montana in the winter? In the summer we are lighter longer, but it gets dark here in Washington around 4 pm in the winter. Which I hate! In New Jersey, it was about an hour later that it started getting dark.

We were in Montana (Glacier National Park) back in early June, and it was easily still light outside at 9:30 PM. So this was during the summer, not the winter, I'm sure it is similar to what you experience during the winter.
