Wishes and a seat?

Hi there --

Any suggestions for the best place to see Wishes where one can sit? I have a bad back AND will be rather knocked up come December when we go. I am thinking about the dessert party but understand everyone rushes to the rail to watch -- although 15-20 minutes of standing won't kill me (I have no idea how long Wishes is, this is my first Disney trip). Any other suggestions? I'll have two other adults, a 4 year old and a 2 year old with me.

The porch over by crystal palace USED to have benches that had a good view of wishes (the awning blocked the high ones though).. Not sure the are still available or not but I would check it out or maybe someone else can chime in and say they are still there.. But I also think if you have fastpass for wishes you sit down in that area...again someone correct me if im wrong

There's benches and seats around, but to have those you'll have to be sitting for quite some time before wishes or they'll be taken.

Best bet id say is to do the Wishes FP. The people in the front will be standing, but if you're near the back of the section you can either sit on the turf, or on the railing. We've done it a few times so far this year and it's great to be able to show up 30 min before wishes and sit on the turf with the metal fence as back support

Table and chairs in front of the Plaza restaurant. I have no idea how early you would have to stake it out though.

Wishes FP will allow you to rest on the AstroTurf until they ask folks to stand.

One other option if standing is absolutely bothersome...

Have you considered renting a scooter?

Not quite sure how bad your back is, but I can't help but thing of standing is an issue, walking all day might be.

FWIW, my mom's back condition has necessitated using a scooter since her early 40s. Some back conditions just stink that bad. She should have used it maybe 3-5 years before that, but refused. Her park enjoyment increased exponentially by not having to walk all day and stop a bunch just to rest her back.

Anyway, food for thought.

I was thinking along the same lines as above. If you are having back issues and will be that pregnant, it isn't standing for Wishes that is going to be your problem, it is the rest of the day. I believe you said this is your first Disney visit, and I fear you aren't understanding the amount of time you will be on your feet. On average, you will walk between 6.5-10 miles per day. But it isn't just the walking, it is the standing. You back will be taking all of that stabilizing pressure from your feet, and frankly, it is brutal even for people that are not pregnant and font gave back problems. I highly recommend renting a scooter for you!

A word of caution about those benches near the hub. I desperately needed to sit on our last trip (I had recently had knee replacement surgery and was dealing with a lot of pain.) and sat on one of those benches. A very rude and uncaring CM made me get up as it got close to the fireworks. Her job was to clear those benches no matter what. I can understand if that is her job but her approach was horrible. She ended up mocking my pain, kind of sarcastically making fun of the pain I was in.

If you don't mind watching the firework from the back. You can sit by Enchanted Tales with Belle/BOG area. The area is very quiet and you can see the firework from the both castles.

I agree with the pp. If you don't care about the castle show right before, you can get a good view of the fireworks with the music in other places. We sat on the stone ledge in front of Dumbo and had a perfect, unobstructed view of Wishes, albeit, not from in front of the castle. The area was empty.

I completely disagree with watching the fireworks from behind or the side of the castle. While it is true that you can see the fireworks, they will just be fireworks. It is not nearly the same experience as seeing them from in front of the castle as they are designed to be seen. Also, you won't be able to see Celebrate the Magic beforehand, and you won't see Tinkerbell flying. You say this is your first time, and in my opinion, you need to see this as Disney intended as a first-timer.

Some have reported they do. For us, a CM came
Through before the castle light show. But did not come again for wishes. So theoretically, you could sit back down.

If you're in the back, from what I've experienced, the cast members don't mind. Upon entering they've told us it'll be standing room only, but only those in the front were made to stand. They never said anything to any of us to the back and we sat the entire time.

They make those in the front stand so others aren't stepped on or anything. In the back we had about 5 feet between us and the next party. So the CM's were fine with us sitting.

Some people report being told to stand and I think those people were in the front. Head to the back and you'll be fine to sit

If standing for 20+ minutes is really an issue, I don't think your problem will be with wishes. You are going to have big issues in a lot of ride lines. I suggest renting an ECV/scooter.

I also recommend the ECV, but if you don't feel you're ready for it, renting a rollator (basically a walker on wheels that turns into a seat when you turn it around) or a manual wheelchair (push it around when you feel like walking, then sit down when you need to) could be a lifesaver. There's a general shortage of places to sit in WDW, especially if the fatigue hits you quickly and the nearest seat is a long way off, or if you're in a long line.

Also, if you have the rental company's contact information handy, and find out once you get there that you DO need the ECV, most companies are really good about getting there as quickly as they can and swapping new equipment for old.

I never thought of going back by Belle. I usually sit in regular Fantasyland, across from (I think it's called) Storybook Treats.

You can also grab a chair at the front train station(upper level), you need to get there real early though.

That's horrible, sorry that happened. I would hope there is a sign! I never would have thought the benches needed to be cleared.

My family has avoided fireworks and parades in MK for over 10 years because it's so crowded and they just don't enjoy it. Once in awhile I can convince them to watch from Tommorrow land or Fantasy land where it's not crowded and I've grabbed dessert party seats when I can.

Word of caution about the FP area - fire ants! My poor toes and I was standing. The bites hurt for near 2 weeks. I saw other comments on the boards about this about a month before we went, figured they would have it fixed by then, and forgot about it. Sadly they were definitely still a problem! I was in the area closest to tomorrowland, so the side closer to adventureland may not have them.
