WiSHers doing their first FULL Marathon at WDW - Jan 2012

Tracy, I'll be at Pop Century next weekend, are there any other places to run there other than the sidewalk loop around the lake?

Not really and there is no sidewalk from the resort out to the "main" roads. I don't think the security/police like to see people walking/running on the roads, so I wouldn't do it. You could take a car over to the boardwalk area or over to Downtown disney area. There are lots of place there to get a good run in around the DTD area/saratoga springs, etc. I just start with a big loop around the outter edge of the parking lots and go around and around sometimes cutting into the different buildings and using the water fountains near restrooms and such as I need it.

Hey all - just popped in. Note the sidewalk does not circle the lake, unless they completed it over the last 18 months. I agree that the better plan is to run BWV or DTD.

You can extend out from Pop into CBR. I ran it and was not challenged. If you run down the road like you were leaving the resort (running facing traffic) and the turn right on Cayman Way, you are less than a quarter mile from the friendly confines of CBR. The guards int he shack smiled and waved as I passed both ways. It's an option that worked for me.

I have a couple of pop tarts before most of my morning runs. Glad to know I'm not alone. Less than 2 months to go. Can't wait for the experience!

Yesterday I ate a couple strawberry newton cookies before I ran and they were good. It wasn't actually a mid-range run for me, but I haven't been content with my last couple of long run so I went out for 10 miles, but told myself I would quit if I felt winded or tired. I went to a greenway to run as it is really pretty much flat. And it was a beautiful day..the weather was wonderful and the fall leaves awesome. It turned out to be a great run and a confidence builder too. I had a good steady pace (all miles between 9:30-9:58) felt good the whole time, could sing out loud to my music. Think I will go back to the greenway for my 20 mile run on Monday.

BTW-what flavor pop tarts do you like?

I go exclusively with frosted brown sugar cinnamon as my flavor of choice!:)

I'm also running my first FULL at WDW in January! I ran my first Half 2 weeks ago and this past weekend I reached 15 miles in my training plan. So excited that my first Full will come at WDW, that is just the way it had to be!

We are also heading down for vacation in a couple of weeks and I need to get in a 12 miler while staying at POP, so thanks for the info about heading over to CBR as part of it. I had been thinking this might be the best option.

I did it, I feel pretty good and my splits were great too. :cool1: I got my 20 miles in this morning in 3.5 hours and again the weather was wonderful. The nice breezes made it look like it was raining leaves at times.
My run next week 12 miles, Monday after Thanksgiving 22 miles. Yeah, I got those midweek speed drills or tempo runs too .

Welcome michealwilliammidd.

So I was able to knock out about 8 miles running around POP, out of POP onto Caymay way and then the sidewalk that goes around the lake at Carribean Beach resort. I did that loop twice and then back to Pop. It is kind of weird running on the street leaving/entering Pop (as there is no sidewalk). The guard didn't say anything and I waved. There is a "castmember" area on Cayman way and a gate, but you can go around that. On my way back there were cast members waiting to get in the gate and I just went around them. I did need to be aware of traffic on my way back as more people were up and the buses were going.
So, this weekend calls for a 18 miler....getting a bit anxious. Keep it up everyone!
:thumbsup2

I've never thought of pop tarts as pre-run food but I bet that would work well for me. Thanks for the idea!
I've been able to start running again after a few weeks of walking. My back isn't 100% but running doesn't seem to make it hurt. I'm going to try 17 miles this weekend. Yikes! My current plan is to get up super early on Saturday morning and finish as much as I can before the kid activity start. My DH takes the older 2 to their Saturday morning activity but I'll have my 3 year old. I want to do as much as possible outside before I have to finish on the treadmill....

I am a little newer to the WISH threads, but found the one for the wine and dine half marathon last year (2010) to really help me out a lot! I am doing my first full as well in January :goodvibes I am a little nervous, I am not as far along as everyone here in my miles...I did a half marathon (my 3rd) last weekend...and trying to do 14 or 15 this weekend - still a little sore from the race. I am a super slow poke...so I am hoping I am not one to be swept in the race

My longest run ever was 14 miles and I've also only done 3 half marathons. And I'm slow, too! :thumbsup2

I also like the PopTart as it travels well. I take it with me on race mornings when we have to be there so early. Because my stomach doesn't like to have food in it so early I find it's nice to just break off pieces and eat a little bit at a time.
Hope it works for you. (the fig newton idea seems like it would work also)

:cool1:**** 50 DAYS UNTIL THE WDW FULL ****:cool1:

I have an 18miler for tomorrow... I took about 2 weeks inbetween my 16 and this one, so hoping it all works out.

I posted a roster on the first post of everyone who has posted that they are doing their first FULL!

Let us know how your weekend miles go!

Hope you have a great run/walk. Hope all is working for you.....nutrition, hydration, weather

I am doing long every other week. My body and brain need some recovery time. So I have 12 tomorrow (usually run Monday) but with holiday week coming, I have to adjust. I am due for 22 on 11/28.

I just checked out the first page. That is so cute, Tracy
I love the little jumping graphic

I did a 19 miler on Thursday, but had IT band pain in my right knee that made it seem longer. Hopefully my stretching & strengthening routine will help ease the pain. Only 50 days to go! As a first timer, is your goal just to finish or do you have a time goal? I'm hoping to break 4 hours. If my knee doesn't feel better, that won't happen tho.

I love the roster Tracy! Thank you!!
I intended 17 miles today but when I checked my mapping program this morning, I misread it and only ended up going 15.34. Guess that's what I get for choosing a route at 5am.
My run went fine. I think I need to improve my fueling - either before or during the run. I'm not speedy but I'm not worried about the time limit either.

Dave - I would have liked to try for 5:30 but with all of the issues my family has faced this fall, I'm just trying to finish. Considering all of the obstacles that have been thrown my way recently, I'm amazed that I'm still trying to do this!
