Would be fun to see how others pulled it off, how they got last minute rooms or details.

I'm hoping to book a last minute trip too - not having much luck! I thought we had a place in the bag and bought my park tickets.....now I just have park tickets.

It's the airfares that get complicated, if you need to fly. Booking a last minute hotel, EZ.

Last week:
- Decide Wednesday night at dinner to go see Osborne Lights one last time.
- Live 8 hours away.
- Booked AllStar Sports on AP discount for Fri-Tuesday for less than go to offsite hotels.
- Twice the only two on the entire bus to our destination.
- Never had to stand on other bus rides.
- Booked California Grill for Friday night during Holiday Wishes.
- Booked all FP+ and only one couldn't get was 7DMT.
- Booked BOG Lunch on Friday for Saturday.
- Booked 4th FP+ and had no problem booking more of them through the days.
- Launch Bay, Darth Vader, Chewie, Jawas....
- Walked up and ate at Skipper Canteen.
- Walked into Jock Lindsey's and got the dive bell table (my first choice).
- DHS, Epcot & MK, Disney Springs and Disney Mini-Golf.
- Holiday Wishes, Castle Lighting, 2 Illuminations and of course the goal, Osborne Lights.
- Outlet Store and Freddy's for lunch before heading home.
- Highly successful trip.

That sounds like a fabulous trip HopperFan! It also serves as a reminder that if you are flexible, you can have a fantastic trip without stalking ADR's and Fastpass reservations.

Yes and we had good FP+ and just about everything was available for the 4th and on. We actually wore out before they ran out of FP+.

My DS taught me a good clue and tested it to prove to me. When you go to kiosk and get your 4th FP+ - he just picked anything. Walked away, pulled it up on MDE then changed it to what he wanted. We probably had 12 FP+ at MK before we got tired and left.

Me! I got a trip to go to Disney with my BFF for Christmas. The best airfare was for Jan 7-11 so I am going! We are going to do parks (MK and Epcot) on 2 of the days and Disney Springs/monorail hopping on the other day (the other days are travel days.) Still trying to decide which days to do what based on the marathon/crowd prediction. I found an off site condo (2br) for under $100 so I will book that soon. I am not interested in getting tied down to dining reservations - I am happy to eat counter service and see what ADRs I can get last minute if the mood strikes.

I am so excited - I think these spur of the moment trips are better for me since otherwise I do nothing but plan.

What do you consider last minute? If I decided to go to Disney right now at 4:00 PM EST, I would be at Disney by 6:00 PM (and I live about 45 minutes away). I could book a hotel, pack our bags, fill the car up with gas, and... go... Many people do it. You don't "have to plan" every detail of the trip. Many people just wing it. It's the folks who live farther away or go only a few times that try to plan every minute of their day to get the most bang for their buck and fit everything into a few short days that go overboard. We've seen plenty of people rushing their families around with spreadsheets in their hand, kids having meltdowns, parents having meltdowns, parents on the verge of divorce from vacation stress yelling at each other at the parks. Our best trips happen when we do not plan. On the drive over we let each kid pick one ride on their "must do" list. We do those first and then just fill up the rest of the day with whatever has short lines or whatever we happen to be walking past.

DD could get a call right now from a friend inviting her to go to Disney tomorrow...

If you are within a few weeks of departing, I wouldn't really consider that plenty of time to plan a decent trip.
