Wish Trippers...Unite!! Volume One

(Linda), Khalana, I have been lurking here for the past couple of weeks, but I had to sign up when I saw you are from Manitoba. We are from just outside of Winnipeg too!! I haven't applied for our wish yet, but I have no doubts that my youngest son, Noah qualifies for one. I was planning to wait a bit, as Noah just turned 3, however, his health is very precarious, and we are thinking we should do this sooner, rather than wait. Can you tell me about the wish granting experience with the Rainbow Society? Do they come to your home? How long did it take for the whole process (wondering how soon they could get us there!) Do they do a send off party? Are you able to extend the trip on your own dime if you wanted to? And I read that you are staying for 7 nights at GKTW. I thought GKTW only gives you 6 nights?? Any info you have for me would be great. There seems to be so many organizations that differ so much. I just want to know what to expect. Thanks so much!

Hey guys! For those of you guys that don't know about our Wish Trip, you can check out the PreTrip report below...

First of all, we had an absolutely MAGICAL first few days! I can't wait to tell you all of the details...

But, we are having some issues. Lauren and Lisa got sick first...stomach bug...and now William has it. Lauren had to go to the emergency room last night and get fluids and some antibiotics as well. She seems to be feeling better today, although we have taken the day off and hopefully that will help...we could really use your prayers!! Hopefully we can get back to a magical vacation tomorrow!

Thank you guys!! I can't wait to give you all of the details of the trip! Although we are disappointed that we have been sick, the trip has overall been awesome with lots of cool surprises (PIXIE DUST!)

Yes, I realized I hadn't welcomed you either!! One nice way to keep up with the thread is to subscirbe to the ones you like. In the top right corner of the page there's something called thread tools, open that up and you'll see an option to subscribe to the thread. Then you get to choose whether you want instant notification by email (I like that option because I check my email several times a day). And as mentioned by the honorable HeatherSue, the trip reports go in the Pre Trip reports folder.

Maroo - sorry to hear y'all were ill on your trip -seems like it happens to a lot of us down there - but glad it was a good trip in spite of that. Waiting impatiently for the trip report - and PICTURES!

Oh, on the trip report thing . . . you can also write it on your computer in MS word or similar and SAVE IT, then copy and paste it onto the board. That could save you from having to redo it, if your internet hiccups while you are typing. (voice of experience, here.)

Hello everyone, and a welcome to the new Wish Trippers to the thread! Gee, I haven't actually posted that much it seems, but I am feeling like an old timer.

I just wanted you to know that I have posted several updates to my pre-trip report. It's been a busy, but exciting week - our renovation started, we received 2 more Big Give packages, and our Wish Granter visited with Mark's Wish Package. Yes, we now have plane tickets!!!

Not many days left until November 1, but lots going on - packing up to move out of the house at the end of the month (renovation relocation, thankfully just across the street!), the boys' 10th birthday, Halloween, and packing for our Wish Trip to name the highlights!

C'mon over to my pre-trip and hear more about the happy, crazy times!

Hello All! New to this piece of the DIS. Been on the boards for awhile, but our world changed on Tuesday when we got a call from Make A Wish and our DD who is almost six will be granted a wish. We were told originally that they would be calling in three to four weeks, but yesterday I received a call and they want to come out tomorrow to speak with her. Any advice would be appreciated. This is exciting and scary at the same time. I'm currently unemployed as the sole provider for our family.

Both of our children have special needs, Mya has CP and Aidan spent 8 months in the NICU and came out with a Trach, Feeding Button and big delays. He also lost his hearing during his stay and is now the proud recepient of Cochlear Implants.

I guess my first question is do you have to pay taxes on these trips?

I know Mya is asking for the moon and stars but I'm hoping they will make her happy with what they can grant. Leave it to a six year old to want it all, and I blame that on Disneys new song.

Her wish if it stays the same is that Hannah Montana will take her for a day at Disney World introducing her to all of the Princess's. Well I look forward to reading about others and letting you know how our Journey goes, if it's Disney, the Rock Star or something else she desires.

Welcome, Matthew!!!! I am fairly new here myself so I can assure you that this is a great and welcoming bunch of people! About the Wish Trip, I am fairly certain (though I do live in Canada ) that there is no tax that you have to pay on this trip and they also provide you with EVERYTHING you need (our Wish organization is even paying for travel insurance and our new passports!!), including spending money (they are VERY generous). So, rest assured that all your needs will be taken care of and more. A good place to start learning about the whole process is probably reading some of the trip reports. On the front page of this thread there are lots of them, and some of us have links in our siggies.

Bless your heart! First of all...welcome!!!

I really, really think that you should not worry about the money side of the wish. The Mississippi Chapter did a GREAT job on helping us plan/budget for the trip. We will be around to help you once you sort of know what you guys will be planning on doing, where you will be staying, etc.

Lauren also wished to meet Hannah Montana, but that was not possible at the time. I think getting to meet the princesses would be a "doable" wish.

I LOVED planning our trip and would LOVE to help you in any way possible to plan yours!! I really did a lot of research. I am single and have lots of free time...so I will be glad to help you out in planning yours, too.

You will find lots of info here! Sometimes too much, honestly.

Each state is different in how they handle the financial side of things. I would talk to your wish granters about your financial fears of the trip.

We had a meeting today with our Wish volunteers again and again they are soooo awesome!

Nick offically got his dates that he is going to Disney World! They gave him a certificate that said.. congratulations, Nicholas, your wish to go to Disney World will be granted on Jan 19th - 25th 2009! Only three more months to wait.. they said to start packing now!

Then they said that they do a going away party but wanted to know, since Nick loves airplanes, if we wanted to spend the night at the Strategic Air Museum and get VIP access to everything there! UMMMMM.. let me think??? YES!!! I mean seriously? How awesome is that?

I will be doing a pre-trip report soon, I am off a couple of days this week but tomorrow the kids are out of school and we are going on a field trip with church to a sheep farm to learn how to be shepards.
