I am just wondering if a stroller or wheelchair rental is covered at WDW during the trip. Dh and I observed a wish child and it was so obvious this precious little one just had no strength to walk anymore (chemo). She just stood there and the mom finally picked her up. I told dh I would have offered to even get them (pay for) a stroller/wheelchair etc. for them because I know from our other friends that they financially struggled with their own dd who had leukemia.

Before my boys MAW trip, our local wish granting chapter asked us if we had any equipment needs. I am sure if the parents ask for a wheelchair or special needs stroller the wish group will be able to make arrangements for one for the length of the trip. Also the parks have some wheelchairs available but I believe it's first come first served.

All of the parks offer free stroller rental or wheelchairs when you show your GKTW button. Some little kids like mine, would feel uneasy about using a big adult wheelchair even if they needed one. Maybe when the family you saw got to the park that day, all the rental strollers were already taken. For some kids, it is kind of embarrassing to use a big wheelchair. My dd would rather walk than use a big adult wheelchair. It has happened to us in stores before.

This is one of the reason's why I am here on the DIS planning our trip. For our daughter, the wish organization has already rented a special needs stroller for her trip four months from now and we will have it for the whole trip to take wherever we go to all the parks, in parking lots, etc.

The wish coordinator should have taken care of that. But that's if the parent told them it was needed. My DD was granted a wish trip by the Childrens Wish Foundation in 2003 after her Mom passed away. We had a wonderfull lady from the foundation who arranged everything we needed. They rented medical equipment from a local vendor and had it waiting for us at the hotel so we didn't have to transport 20 oxygen bottles.

I forgot to add I had taken my own jogging stroller to use. My DD does not like the wheelchair and the stroller was easy to push. Just a bear to turn. I just bought a newer one that has the swivel front wheel. We'll be using it on our August trip Disney. I'm lucky I guess that she only weighs 80 lbs at 16 and fits in the stroller.

And we didn't have top pay for one either. (wheelchair or stroller) it was complimentary from Disney!

We did take my DS own wheelchair. Better padding and his size and build for him. He doesn't have the endurance to walk long distances or times
