I'm starting a new job tomorrow, :scared1: This is the first full time job I've ever had, only ever worked odds and sods before now.

I'm going into a mind numbingly tedious position so I've been told, scanning invoices in the hospital. The only positives about this thing (excluding the cash we so desperately need right now) are that it's in the hospital where DH works and in a close department too - he's a finance manager, I'll be in accounts. Basically means I ride to work with him and work with some of the same colleages. In fact his best mate at work is the boyfriend of my boss who I've met several times before and get on with really well, she's a scrapper too. I've hung out in the offices before and it's a really good group so I'm hoping it'll be ok.

Only problem is this means both of us are living and working in a city 1.5hrs from our home, which equals living with the inlaws during the week until our house sells. Oh boy, this will be fun!! If you hear on the news about a guy in Lincoln, UK being murdered by his DIL, congrats, you now know someone famous!

I'll do my best to steal FIL's internet tomorrow and let y'all know how it goes but I may not get on for a while.

hey, you said y'all!!!!! Glad to know we are rubbing off on you!! LOL

I'll keep and eye in the the London Times or what ever your local newspaper is. ;)

Congrats on the new job, and I'm still praying for a buyer. I'd buy it but funny thing, the UK is no near Ohio or Connecticut. Go figure!

Congrats on the job! Good luck with the work and living situation.

Congrats on the new job!!!

DH had to laugh when I told him about the upcoming news article.. He said we'll make your scrapbook pages for ya!!! Good luck with those arrangements!!!! :)

Prayers for a buyer for the house soon!!!

Hey all, sorry no contact all week, it's been uber hectic here.

Work is actually pretty good, except opening the post. To give you an idea, my department opens ALL the post. Not just ours, not even just the hospital's, but the post for the ENTIRE of NHS Lincolnshire (2nd biggest county in the UK). That equates to several hundred pieces each day plus internal mail. I swear I developed carpal tunnel syndrome from envelope opening!!

I've not exactly endered myself to the lower grade staff (of which I am one) it must be said, however I argue it's not my fault! I've come into this job for 2 reasons, one is the money, 2nd is helping out my friend, who happens to be the head of department, and my desk is next to hers. As a result, she's constantly leaning over nattering to me (doesn't help that she's going on her first Orlando trip in a couple weeks) and we go to lunch together etc. Add to that my DH being a directorate manager and many of our mutual friends also being in senior positions and I'm obviously always chatting to the seniors, think it may have rubbed a few people the wrong way. Ooops! Regardless, I'm mainly enjoying it.

In other news our boiler has packed in and so we have no heating today - brrrr! Sometimes living at Scott's parents place has its benefits!

:rotfl2: New girl has friends in high places. :rotfl2:

Glad to hear it isn't as completely horrible as you feared. Talking about Disney is a great way to pass the time. :thumbsup2

So let me get this right. The NHS is a complex of some kind? It's not like you are opening the neighbor's mail, right?

The NHS is the National Health Service, the part of our government that provides free healthcare to the entire UK population. I (and my DH) work in Lincoln hospital and I deal with the mail for all the hospitals, clinics etc in Lincolnshire, a county of a population of about 1 million so that's a lot of mail. I believe there are at least 6 hospitals who we deal with in our department. Scott is the directorate finance manager for planned care (as opposed to emergency care which his mate deals with) so he has to figure out why we've overspent this month - they never underspend, ever - and figure out ways to reduce our costs. My department just pays the bills!!!

The NHS is in very bad shape, debts of millions of pounds grow every single month in pretty much every UK hospital, so working in finance is very stressful for everyone there. Basically, it's the perfect example of you don't have to be insane to work here, but it really helps!!
