Last night I explained it all to him. Although we had (or rather I had) brought this up before he always felt we didn't have the $$ to do this. Well, he said yes... in fact he asked ME if we were getting enough points. (Yes I feel we are...) OOOOOOOHHHH we're over the hump, now just ROFR and we're goin' home.. :goodvibes :rotfl:

I finally made the decision to buy into DVC. We have rented pts before and love OKW. I reserved a resale contract yesterday, got the info and now have to convince DH that this is a good "investment". We have been to WDW 18 times, plus DisneyLand, Disney Cruise, etc. I have always dreamed of "living at Disney World" and this is the next best thing. I also want to be able to have the ability to take our Granddaughter to experience Mickey and the gang so she can grow up the way our daughter did...So tonight, I have to approach him and explain. Anyone else had a similar situation, and how did you handle it? :confused3

There are TONS of posts about points and breakeven numbers and value breakdowns on the DIS and other boards, but to me its about knowing you will have time to spend with your family in a wonderful environment. Its about knowing you can treat friends and family (or just yourself more often :earsgirl: if you like) to trips to Disney for YEARS to come.

I might be one of the few that doesn't view it as a financial investment, but I did run the numbers once or twice myself to make sure I was really seeing the costs involved.

If you vacation at Disney often (and it sounds like you do) and you enjoy the better accomidations, then it can't be beat in my mind. If you are a nickle and dimer (which I have been at times and still am when squeezing in a long weekend trip a couple of times a year - but we blow it all out a couple of weeks a year too :wizard: so I don't mind) and cannot BEAR to pay for a Moderate resort when a Value is available, then this might not be the way to go. Think about if you would be happy off premises. Think about the difference in the way it makes you feel when you drive past the directional signs in the way to your destination that have all those wonderful places you want to experience. Does it make a different to your family to be able to hop a bus and be there? Do you enjoy the "Disney Magic" that surrounds you when you arrive (and hopefully stays through your trip?). Money doesn't buy the magic, but that is definately one of the differences in the DVC vs another Orlando area timeshare.

The coolest thing to my family is that we get to share this with our children and when they are tired of it just hubby and I and THEN our grandchildren!

I know I am rambling here, but I guess ultimately, you need to 1. make sure financially it works for you (and the pay off is somewhere between 5-8 years for most of us) and 2. that it is something you and hubby will value far beyond the money. Good Luck!!! :wizard:

I just ordered the information today, but after much research I'm wondering why we haven't done this before, after what we have spent over the past 4 years alone, it may have already been 1/2 paid for. I'm going to have a similar conversation myself tonight!! Good luck to you!!!! :wizard:

OK, so here's how my DW convinced me: She showed me how much we had spent since 1998 on meals and accommodations at WDW. Then she showed me how much it would cost us to buy enough points to do equivalent stays as DVC members. She included the annual maintenance fees, and amortized over 40 years.

The numbers were still above what we have historically spent, but it was clear to me that with inflation the retail cost could overtake the DVC cost in some years time. Plus, on average, the accommodations would be nicer than the value and moderate resorts we have stayed in, and would have more amenities such as kitchens and in-room laundry (except studios).

Given that we really did (and do) plan on being there 2-5 times a year, and that DW really wanted it, I somewhat reluctantly agreed.

Then we went down for our first stay at "Home" in OKW. I have not regretted it for a second since then, and as been said in these groups time and time again - I only wonder what took me so long to come around.

Best wishes for good success with your DH, from one DH that will be eternally grateful to my DW for "making me do it"!

Can't say that "I" have. My DH and I were in complete agreement, in fact, if anyone was the one crunching the numbers doing the worrying as to whether or not this was in fact a bargain, it was me---tell the DH to look on the bright side, you've been to Disney World 18 times---heck it can't be anything BUT an investment!

My DH was also in complete agreement, in fact he is the one who tells me to make phone calls for add-ons!!! However, we have had the most wonderful vacations and have no regrets at all. GOOD LUCK!!!
