The more I read about the savings Florida residents get on tickets, dining, and such, i just wish they would give us DVC members that live out of state the same savings! Does anybody else feel this way?

Actually you do. DVC members can buy annual passes and a geat discount. The AP's have no blackout dates, where as the Florida Resisdent discount does.

While we can't get the FL seasonal pass or discounted regular tickets, the AP discount is just about as good as the FL AP discount, with the AP we can get the DDE, just like FL residents, so overall, I'm pretty happy, compared to what they used to offer DVC members, which was 10% off Length of Stay passes...not much of a deal.

The AP also allows us the AP discounted room for cash stays, which are often the same as FL resident room rates, sometimes better. We often use the AP discount on rooms if we arrive early or decide to stay an extra day at a value resort.

Yeah, but wishing won't make it happen. ;)

Despite the fact that there are a couple hundred thousand DVC members, we don't have a whole lot of leverage with Disney. A few of the perks look like goodwill gestures, while most are designed with specific business goals in mind (i.e. the AP encourages more time in the parks...which encourages more add-on sales; the handful of dining discounts are designed to encourage people to go to slower restaurants at slower times.)

I hate to sound like I'm towing the company line, but I'm pretty happy with what we have now. They certainly could cut things down and we wouldn't have anywhere to turn.

IMHO one of the reasons they give "perks" to FL Residents is they get stuff from the state. Tax breaks, perferred financing etc.... Disney doesn't want to make the "voter" base mad in a state where they want something from the governing body.

DVC members don't have that going for them.

Well, if we are going to wish, I'd wish for the cost of points to stabilize and dues to flat line.

Naw. It's a frequent flyer program. We live close, we drive up on a whim, we spend money. It ain't love, and it ain't politics...it's money.

There are two AP options for Fla residents, one with and one without blackout dates. Residents also get a discount on Park Hoppers. The discount is to lure residents into the parks, since for many residents, WDW will not be a vacation destination. It has nothing to do with politics as some have suggested.

While we can't get the FL seasonal pass...
which is THE BOMB, incidentally!

There is another way to look at this, but I hesitate to bring it up because it sounds so selfish (well, actually, I guess it fits right in  ) -- but Florida DVC owners actually get virtually nothing from DVC perks. AP is a $5 savings, I think. Florida resident room rates are better than the DVC discount. DDP is one perk, but it's been gutted and is old news.

There is one other little fact to consider with Florida residents -- there are 18-19 million of us (we'll blow by NY and become the 3rd most populous state in the 2010 census), and we're right here! If ever there was a market to be had, we have to be it.

So what discounts, exactly, do you wish DVC would have that FL residents DO have? Just wondering what these are, i just can't think of any offhand.

We get great hotel rates (usually the same as AP).

The Florida resident seasonal AP (which is blacked out for the summer and December holidays, and maybe a couple of other times we don't go anyway) is $100 less than the DVC AP.

We also get good discounts on regular park tickets (which I think DVC members should get as well, but we don't). And there is an Epcot after 4 PM and a Water Parks after 2 PM (?) AP.

There may be more, but those are the ones which come to mind.

An Epcot after 4? That's cool. If I had one of those and lived in Florida it would be used a lot.

I would say most of the perks for florida residents are designed for people living in Orlando and the surrounding area, that would go to the parks or restaurants on a regular basis, weekly or monthly if you may. That is what is behind the epcot after 4 and water parks after 2 passes, not to mention the Seosanal APs.
I'm sure that if I were living in Orlando with my two little daugthers I wouldn't doubt to have mommy and me meetings in the Magic Kingdom instead of a local park :cutie:, or going for dinner at epcot on a school day just because we can.
Of course, the rest of florida benefit from these discounts, which I'm happy for, since we live in Miami (although we are in Spain for one more year on job assignment).

They have similar discounts on the other parks for the residents of the area, like in disneyland CA and paris, although I have to admit FL resident get the best deals.

Does disney have an interest in lurking DVC members to the parks after 2 or 4? Well, we would need to see the statistics on what DVC members do when they are in Orlando. Do they go to other parks or other Orlando attractions or do they spend most of the time on property? I'm inclined to think most DVC Members already spend most of their time on property, so I wouldn't see the need for Disney to lure them any more. But, if Disney realized that the mayority of their DVC visitors are going places, eating and enyoing Orlando out of Lake Buena Vista, well, then you will start seeing those perks flying in.

IF we own DVC (and thus pay some tax to the state of FL), are we able to get an Florida State ID? (not a driver's license, but the state ID?)

If we can get that, then that would entail the keeper of said ID to all Florida resident perks, right?

I am also thinking of the seemingly HUGE discounts available to FL residents on DCL.

Why would DVC members need hotel rates? If a DVC member is also a Florida resident, wouldn't they still get the hotel rates?

Personally I don't really want an AP with blackout dates. If I lived in FL I still wouldn't want an AP with blackout dates. But I guess that's just me. And if I get the AP (which I would) I don't need other kinds of park tickets.
